  • Decent budget caliper if you're okay with single decimal resoulution
This caliper is pretty accurate at the stated resolution which only goes into tenths for metric and hundredths for inches. I mostly needed this to easily measure the diameter of silicon hoses and pipe fittings I use for beer brewing. For my use case the resolution is more than enough as I'm typically measuring in quarter of an inch intervals which this handles well. The caliper is made of plastic and while I'm not sure I would call it cheap feeling, it doesn't feel premium either. It works well enough but the sliding action is not very smooth at all. The plastic tends to catch on your hand causes it to stick a bit when you're trying to adjust it. You have to adjust your grip to make sure your palm isn't resting on the back of the slide or it will be hard to open and close. That said for $9.99 with a 20% off coupon or about $8 at the time of writing it's a decent value. It does seem to read accurately for it's resolution level. The display is huge, arguably too big. It comes with a battery installed and a backup battery plus a plastic case which is handy. It's found a useful place in my shop and for my uses but I also understand people who needed finer accuracy would not be satisfied. For me it's all that I need and I'm happy with it. ... show more

  • Budget Friendly
This was purchased so I can quickly and easily measure brass when reloading to keep track of case length. Its a plastic tool but that was to be expected at this price, has a large easy to see display and I was stoked to find out it came with a spare battery. Definitely worth the purchase price of a whopping 9.99 US and I would have gladly paid that but there was no way I wasn't gonna click the box for a cool 20 percent off. ... show more

  • All Plastic & Lower Resolution But Not Bad
I’m very particular about digital calipers and have become very loyal to one particular brand. But I decided to try these because I was curious about them because of the large display and the $10 price (or $8 with a coupon). I didn’t pay enough attention to the description and didn’t realize that these calipers are made of plastic, not metal. They’re not bad but there’s a popular and highly rated digital caliper being sold on Amazon for about $18 that’s made of stainless steel. It also has a large display like this one and a higher resolution. The display on this Hardell caliper only shows tenths of a millimeter and hundredths of an inch. All the digital calipers I own show one additional decimal place. The seller claims this caliper has .001 inch / .03mm accuracy. But if it does, the display can’t show it. Other than the resolution, I’m pretty impressed with the display and the way it operates. It uses a pretty standard 3-volt 2032 button battery which will last far longer than the small 1.5-volt batteries that some calipers use. The description says this caliper uses two LR44 batteries and that is incorrect. This caliper is probably not a good choice if you like to use the sharp points of a metal caliper to make marks on metal or wood. I like calipers that move smoothly. These are pretty good, but I’ve never owned plastic calipers and I’m wondering if that will change because the plastic will warp or wear. Also, there is no screw for locking the position of the jaws. These calipers are much lighter than metal ones, which might make them more likely to survive being dropped, but I’m not going to test them. These calipers come with a protective case that’s light and compact. A spare battery is also included. If low cost is very important to you then these calipers might be a very good choice. But otherwise I’d suggest you spend another $10 or so and get a 6-inch/150mm digital caliper that is made of stainless steel. ... show more

  • Close, but not quite right.
There’s a slight margin of error with these. I tested these for both inches and mm. First I measured some jeweler Metal. After three attempt's it did not measure to the .75mm specifications on the package. Then I did the same for a penny, which should technically be a true three-quarter inch wide. Now to be fair some manufacturers of materials round up and the penny could have been worn. If you don’t need to know 100% accuracy but just close enough these are just fine. If you want 100% accuracy, I would suggest looking for ones with a metal tip instead of plastic. ... show more

  • Good deal.
For $10 this is a good deal. Be alert that it only has one significant digit, so it is pretty lo-res, but I've used lots of calipers with the same electronics and they are reliable. I use them a lot for 3D printing and have been very happy with them. To be clear, this is not a quality item - my 5 star rating is based on the $10 price. Which is actually FANTASTIC. I'd buy another if this broke. Recommended. ... show more

  • Not what I expected for a plastic caliper set
First off, the caliper looks like metal but it most definitely is plastic. Luckily there is very little to no play in the tool. The display size seems to be it's redeeming value. The kit comes with the clear plastic case, a battery already installed and a spare CR2032 battery. Instructions are also included. The accuracy is a little low for calipers as it only provides for millimeters to the nearest tenth and inches to the nearest hundredth (instructions say +- 0.03mm/0.001" but display only shows mm to the tenth and inches to the hundredth). Also the instructions say LR44 battery (hearing aid type cell) but the battery tray is for sure a 2032. The case, either way, has a space for a spare 2032 or LR44 built in to carry it. I will use this around the office to measure things close for quickly sizing things; I'll use my metal calipers I already have for my 3D printing/more accurate needs. ... show more
