  • This tool is the only way to go!
Color: Blue
The media could not be loaded. As a person who has been through some home renovations, home additions, built a shop or two, hobby welder, likes to work on old cars - I have accumulated quite a pile of wire, in true hoarder fashion. You just never know when you'll need a piece of 2/0 or maybe some 3/10. But enough is enough, I needed to make some space in the garage and this has gone on long enough. I read the reviews for crank, cordless-drill-operated, and this one that has it own motor. In my case I bolted the unit to a pretty solid foldable table that I use as a portable workbench. Some of the wire I have, I had to manually strip off the outer sheathing, but I didn't have a ton of that, but be advised some things just don't feed well - especially if they aren't round, which is the case with some of the wire I have. But a trick I learned for regular round wire - get the setup close, look in the other end at the cutting wheel and make sure it is making contact with the wire sheath but not much, then run through about a foot at a time and check your depth, adjusting as you put through a bit at a time, start then stop the button or just gently push the start it will run the unit without engaging for hands free. This way I got the depth just right, where it separated the sheath but did not bite into the wire. Also I cut the wire to maybe 6-10 foot lengths just so I can handle it as it goes through. No sense in getting wrapped up in the wire and then you've got a real situation on your hands. The unit is smooth operating, I have put through enough wire now of various gauges, I probably have 60 lbs already. And use the little 'gate' thing - it really helps keep the wire feeding in as it should for consistent bite of the wheel and tracking on the rotating feeder. Oh, and you will see in the video the kind of wire that I could not get to work - wire that has a very flexible sheath. It just won't stay under the cutting wheel, it travels all over the place. I didn't have much of that, I think it was one of those dryer cords. I know this unit is not cheap, and it is nice as it pays for itself as I know it will for me, in my case it was mostly about having a hobby of it, clearing off some shelf space, and then I'm pretty sure I'll have enough when I turn in the copper to pay for the unit plus some. It is really pretty fun to work with, but something to be careful with, this thing pulls pretty hard and you need to pay attention. ... show more

  • A relatively inexpensive wire stripper that works well.
Color: Blue
The stripper is easy to use & does what it's supposed to. You can strip wire as small as #12 AWG stranded, I've had very little success with #14 stranded & gave up trying to strip anything smaller than #12. Strips #10 like a dream. It's truly a joy to use this stripper, but takes a little getting used to before you find it's sweet spots. The biggest problem with it is setting the blade too deep. If you do, it will cut right through a strand of wire, about every inch of wire length. Then when you peel the insulation off, there are no gloves on earth that will save you from being impaled by thousands of little individual strands of stranded wire & they go deep & are quite painful. So, you have to set the blade so it only cuts 70% or so through the insulation & when you do peel it off it will zip off like a zipper & it comes off quite easily. You usually need a knife to get the end started peeling, unless you set the blade too deep because you enjoy being a pin cushion, & then you can just start peeling using your fingers. Sometimes it will roll the wire around the side of the blade, & you're either trying to cut too deep, or you need to take better care of how you insert the wire. It's rare but it happens sometimes. Overall I am very impressed with this wire stripper. I've stripped some larger wire like 2 aught wire & still impressed at how it handles braided solid #14 & #12, as you will find in those larger wire sizes. I have not messed with 3,4,500 MCM wire sizes so I have no way to know how that works, but if it fits, I'd say it'll probably work just fine. Would definitely buy again. ... show more

  • As with ANY tool there is a 'learning curve'.
Color: Blue
Blade was super dull out the box. Maybe someone returned it like that? So, I had to sharpen it, not easy as it is a disk shape. The adjustment feature seems wonky, I need to re-engineer it. Best to line up your cable sizes and run em' through at the same time because of that. Trick is to cut up to the copper without cutting into it. Need to make sure cable has no kinks or it will easily hop off the blade, the guide does not help that, I removed it as it only gets in the way. Guide it in, keeping it lower than blade and help it out other side. A better guide design would help with that. Spend some time with it and you'll get it to work for ya'. Seems like a good motor made to run cool under continuous operation. I plan to add an on/off foot pedal for safety and control as both hands need to be on the work you'll see. It is a time saver but smaller wires tend to be tricky. Get a hand held linear cable stripper also, some stuff won't run through this rig like oven cables. Bare Bright copper prices are UP now so have fun and be safe. ... show more

  • Well Worth the money
Color: Dark Blue
This is worth it. I am in the construction industry and nothing is more pain staking than striping copper. I just feed it in to the feeder, a little difficult at first getting it just right if it is tough or tangled. Once it gets going it is fast and smooth. A little pricy but you get your money back when you take the copper to the shop and get money for it. Most places deduct money if it isn't striped. This product is awesome. ... show more
