Features

  • Natural Organic Planting Medium: The coconut coir brick is made of coco coir fibers, which extracted from the husk on the outer shell of a coconut. Our coco coir brick is clean, without dirt or foreign substances, both organic and reusable. So it can cultivate flowers and economical plant products without soil, and can also cultivate seedlings. The size of each brick is about 7.8 X 3.9 X 1.97 Inches, weight is about 1.4lb.
  • Excellent Drainage & Water Absorption: Sponge-like properties of coconut fiber will absorb up to 8-10 times its weight in water. This coco coir brick really swells up when you add water. So it helps plants absorb water more effectively while also letting excess liquid drain through efficiently to reduce oversaturation and prevent waterlogged roots. Ideal for thicker plant bases.
  • Super Easy to Use & Store: Just soak the coconut coir brick in water and it crumbles apart and then drain the excess water, speed up its decomposition and expansion through the mixing of tools, after being mixed with other substrates, put it into your customized cultivation container and plant the bred seedlings. The compressed coco coir brick is lightweight, and after swelling with water the coconut coir brick can be bagged up like nutrient soil.
  • Ideal for a Variety of Applications: This coco coir brick can be used in greenhouses, landscaping, garden beds, individual pots, terrariums, grow bags, vertical gardens or container gardens on the patio. You can also try to grow as many varieties of fruits and vegetables as you can in an organic, cost effective and sustainable way. It also can be used in soil improvement of golf courses.
  • Increase Germination Rate: Our coco coir brick is eco-friendly, so you can use it in your garden at ease. The use of coconut soil as the cultivation of vegetable and fruit seedlings will strengthen the roots of the plants and increase their roots. Not only that, because of its good water retention and air permeability, the germination rate of the plants will be relatively increased.

  • Poofed Up Nicely With Water, Repotted Indoor & Outdoor Plants, Doing Well, Happy Noobie
Item Package Quantity: 3
I've never used this before so I'm not familiar enough at all with it to compare. I love the practicality of getting compressed soil in manageable chunks rather than big bagged messes. I put two bricks (one at a time) in a large bucket as directed to rehydrate with hose water and it poofed up beautifully to at least 3 times the size it started. After repotting my tomatoes & zucchini, I had enough left over to repot 3 of my indoor plants who were outgrowing their pots too. This was 2 weeks ago, and both the indoor & outdoor plants are doing great. I left a little remaining soil in the bucket outside, and the next day I noticed some critters seemed to enjoy playing in it. Probably birds and/or squirrels. They only got into the bucket, though, and not into the nearby plants I'd just repotted, so that was a relief. I hope my little experience with these compressed soil bricks helps. I'm happy with them and will keep buying them for future use. I also want to read more about these to make sure I'm doing it right. :) ... show more

  • Expands fast, conveniently packaged, great for seed starting, did contain some random material
Item Package Quantity: 3
Each brick of this product expands quickly in water, over about 15 minutes rather than the typical 30-40 minutes. One brick makes about 3/4 a household bucket full of soil. This is typically used as a soil amendment or to sprout seeds, especially seeds that need a grow light or heat mat, because this has no odor even when warm, and is less likely than bagged soils to contain bugs or weed seeds. The quality control here is not super great, because there was a piece of plastic in one brick. But, the bags of soil with compost often contain a lot of weird extra things, like bits of glass, or insect eggs -- so this is better than those sacks that you buy at the hardware store or plant nursery, besides being less packaging and easier to transport than hydrated soil. In my garden, this type of soil is a must-have for starting seeds and making soil blends. ... show more

  • Looks like decent compressed coir
Item Package Quantity: 3
These bricks of coconut coir will become part of next season's batch of seed-starting and potting medium. The bricks seem rather unevenly compressed and arrived looking a little beat-up, but the texture and dryness look okay functionally. I have no way to verify the seller's description of being low-EC, but that is a desirable quality. The seller is offering a range of packages, from one brick to nine. For gardeners who need a large quantity of coir, the larger multi-packs boast much lower unit cost, at the prices listed today. ... show more

  • better than peat moss
Item Package Quantity: 3
Peat moss comes from peat bogs thousands of years old and is not a renewable resource. Worse is that harvesting peat releases the CO2 sequestered in the bog. I stopped using it several years ago after I learned about this and switched to coir instead. Coconut coir is the dried and ground up fibers of coconut husks. Coconuts can be grown and replenished, unlike peat. It comes as a compressed brick and expands to many times it size when soaked in water. I usually put it in a big bucket and let it expand overnight. Afterwards, I mix it into soil and use as a potting mix. I found a strip of plastic embedded in one of the bricks, but otherwise no visible contaminants. Do note that coir has no nutritional value, so you'll still have to amend your soil. ... show more

  • Came apart easily
Item Package Quantity: 3
Unlike some, this inflated and flaked apart easily when I added water... I did this about 3 times to get it to fully expand. Simple to use and so clean in comparison to already bagged potting soil. However, I have found that you need to amend it in some aspect... maybe mix in a bit of old potting soil. Works well, easy to use, and much easier to transport. ... show more

  • Good, fine textured, coco coir, a bit pricey
Item Package Quantity: 3
Things I noted: 1. Fastest expanding coco coir I've ever seen, didn't even use warm water. 2. Very fine textured, I like it with a bit more rough stuff but I can add in some compost to get it where I like it. 3. At $16 for 4.5 pounds it's a bit on the expensive side but if you don't need a lot the expense can be offset by the convenience of the small bricks. I use a lot of coco coir so I probably won't order again but it's definitely got a place for gardeners who don't need a lot. ... show more

  • Quality Coco Coir
Item Package Quantity: 3
I like using Coco Coir in general because it is a clean medium for indoor gardening. Nothing against insect, but I don't want them in my house, which is why I choose this a soil alternative. Not that it cannot grow mold, but it doesn't lend to mold growth very easily. As far as this particular brand, I inspected it pretty closely. I've read that while Coco Coir is almost always "clean", pending where it is laid out to dry, it can mold in outdoor humid environments. This passed visual inspection and looks clean. Absolutely no complaints. NOTE: This is a review of a the 3 pack, but for just a few dollars more you can get a 6 pack. The 6 pack seems like a great deal. ... show more
