I've used specialty scissors for many years as a professional needlework artist and designer and I've also cut my own hair for more than 30 years. At this point I tend to pick up a pair of scissors and simply know fairly quickly whether they feel right in my hand. These do. One of the most important features for me is adjustable blade tension. My preferred tension can actually change from one day, or even one hour, to another and not all shears offer this adjustment. The center tension screw on these can be turned by hand for quick changes or adjusted more precisely with the included tool. Once I've become accustomed to having adjustable tension, I really miss it when a pair doesn't offer it. There's also an adjustable stopper between the handles. This is separate from the blade tension adjustment and controls how closely the handles come together when the shears are closed. Together, the two adjustments allow considerably more customization than I initially realized. These 6-inch shears are made from Japanese 440C stainless steel with 2.4-inch convex blades. They're relatively lightweight, but the balance is what I notice most. The weight feels concentrated toward the handle and gradually lightens toward the tips, allowing my fingers to rest naturally in the offset grips. They're comfortable and controlled rather than feeling tip-heavy. Lightweight shears are particularly useful for a stylist working for hours, although I actually prefer a little more weight for certain cutting tasks. For a shorter 6-inch shear, I think these strike a very nice balance between substance and maneuverability. The blades cut cleanly and smoothly without pulling or snagging my hair. As with any quality hair shear, I'll keep these dedicated strictly to hair rather than using them for paper or general household cutting. They also arrive with accessories and a protective case, which makes this feel like a thoughtfully put-together set rather than simply a loose pair of scissors. These aren't as decorative as my other SEIMEIKEN shears, but from a functional standpoint I may actually appreciate the adjustability and balance of these more. Great value too! I already own another pair of scissors from this company in black, and I've been extremely happy with those, so I had pretty high expectations for these six-inch 440C hair shears. They absolutely lived up to them. These have convex cutting blades, an adjustable tension wheel, and dull tips rather than sharp points. The tension adjustment lets you dial in how the scissors feel as you're cutting, and the blades themselves are exceptionally sharp. I primarily use mine for grooming my dog. I have other scissors around the house specifically for trimming her fur, but these are easily several steps above anything else I've been using. When she gets little tangles or dreadlocks in her coat, these cut through them like butter. There's virtually no fighting with the fur or repeatedly working at the same spot. The dull tips are particularly useful for me because I sometimes do a little careful trimming when my dog is tired and relaxed before bed. Obviously, they're still extremely sharp scissors and need to be treated accordingly, but I much prefer having a rounded tip when I'm working anywhere near an animal that can suddenly decide to move. At just under $30, these are honestly overkill for what I'm using them for, but I mean that as a compliment. They feel like genuinely good cutting tools rather than another generic pair of household scissors. Care instructions are included, and considering how well these perform out of the box, I'd recommend following them. A cutting edge this good is worth maintaining properly. I've now had excellent experiences with two different pairs from this company. If you're actually shopping for quality hair shears, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these.

Update: I provided these when I went to see my usual barber. She commented on the sharpness and quality and that she has never seen a knob to adjust the stiffness of the cut. She gave a couple cuts the. went back to her 30-year-old clippers, not because the new ones were not of the same quality, but because of the length. She quite prefers a shorter blade, however that was it. Very impressed with the quality of these scissors. They feel solid and well balanced, with a slightly heavier feel than some other brands I’ve used. The SEIMEIKEN scissors stood out because of their build quality and balance. The finger holes also include removable rubber inserts, which are a nice touch if the standard openings feel too large. They provide a more secure, comfortable fit and better control while cutting. Overall, these feel like a well-made professional-style pair of hair scissors. The added weight may take a little adjustment if you prefer lighter scissors, but I like the solid feel and balance.

I'm not a professional hairstylist, but I bravely gave myself a nice trim and some layers with these at home, including some vertical thinning, and they worked really well. They cut through my thick(!) hair smoothly without tugging or feeling like they were catching, and they were comfortable to hold and use while doing my own hair. I was actually surprised by how easy it was to get clean, controlled cuts with them. The little silencer piece is also such a nice touch. It makes the scissors feel more comfortable and less harsh while you’re using them. I don’t have photos or videos to share, but I’m really happy with how my hair turned out and would definitely keep using these for at home trims.

They come with a key to tighten them up, and they also come with 2 rubber parts where your fingers can go in. If you have sensitive fingers, they also come with a cleaner. So that you can clean them. FYI: I am not a professional. I am just somebody who cuts their hair at home, and also the hair of their family members. Pros: I really like the storage box for these scissors with the magnetic closure. The scissors are extremely easy to get out of the box, use, and then put them away. They come with a cleaning cloth, that is not like the microfiber cloths that you use when you get a new pair of glasses or to clean a glass screen protector on a phone or watch. The tension adjuster on the scissors is really firm, and difficult to turn. Thus, however, you set it, it should remain where you put it. The small flat adjuster tool, made it relatively easy to tighten the scissors. I personally feel like the attention was really loose, and needed quite a bit of adjusting. The use/care instructions are extremely easy to follow. Cons: Getting the tension adjuster out of the box, to actually use it, was extremely difficult. I had to get a small hook into the hole of it, to pull it out. The small round ring inserts that go into the handle of the scissors, fell out when I set the scissors down on the counter. The business size instruction card, falls easily out of the box. It would’ve been nice if that information had been printed on the inside of the lid, where there’s space available. The instructions recommend adding oil the scissors, but no oil is included in the box. I’m hoping it’s the same oil that I use for my electric hair clippers, because that’s the only oil I have around for that type of purpose. Overall: For my short test video, I pulled out a regular pair of paper cutting scissors and used those first on my hair. I was surprised at how good those actually worked. Then I used these scissors to cut my hair. In my opinion, I don’t think they worked any better than my paper cutting scissors. However, I do have other haircutting scissors. These do work better than the cheap ones that come in the electric hair trimmer box. I feel that these are a good standalone pair. I did not get the smooth clean cut like you do with top of the line haircutting scissors, but for a quick trim of the ends, they work fine for that. They’re also in the price range for that. Because they’re so easy to get in and out of the box, I will probably reach for these more often. I will also not be bothering with the inserts that go into the handle.

My son is a barber, so he was very interested in this pair of shears. He was so excited because he was planning to purchase a new pair. He says that these are excellent quality and super sharp. He agrees that they should be cleaned and oiled after each use. Also a great idea to store them in a closed pouch or even use the one the scissors came in. The finish is bright and shiny. So it's a good looking tool. I like the finger protectors that come with them too. I think the price is very good for the value of the scissors. Additionally, the box provides instructions on how to care for them.
