So the HBX Hailstorm truggy is the perfect RC to start off the hobby. Whether it’s for a young one who wants to get his or her own new rc to start learning the hobby, or even an adult who also wants to get into the rc hobby, it’s a great beginner platform. It looks cool, it’s built well, and drives great. It has predictable throttle response and agile handling. It is also very planted for a small 1:18 scale vehicle. It really never wanted to tip or roll over when turning abruptly. It’s also very quick for a car this size. Notably, it has two drive modes, slow and normal. So for a very young one it can be placed on slow so as to get used to the car. Put it in normal, and it jets away nicely. The manual is very descriptive with part numbers and exploded views if for what ever reason you need to remove something or fix or replace a part. There are also some upgrades like shocks etc. very cool! If you’re looking to enter into the rc hobby and don’t wanna spend a lot on an expensive or big car, the Hailstorm is a great place to start. For young ones or adults alike it offers a great starting platform to have fun and learn the rc life! Christmas is coming up! So pick one up now to get another name off your list! This hailstorm, says its a 1/18th scale, hmm, seems more like a 1/20 scale to me, but that ok, still a nice size. Its 4WD drive, using a center drive shaft and 2 differentials. Has a 2 ch. brushed system, with one channel for throttle to the brushed 380 motor and the other to the servo for the front proportional steering. Has air cushion tires, 4 pins to remove the poly plastic body. They give 4 extra pins, which is a nice touch, cause you always loose those body pins. Haiboxing gives you a light kit for front LED lights, not a hard thing to install but not simple either. I had to remove some of the front suspension to get to the front bumper. So I could remove it and I could mount the lights. Has some light leakage around those lights, so I used my black liquid tape to make it nice and sealed, so only light come out the front head lamp lens area. The give you 2- 7.4v 14500 nimh batteries which is fine, I will use my 800mah lipos from turngy for more torc and longer runs, they fit no problem. The provided USB charger is fine, but if you have other RC batt Devices or plan on buying more, I would suggest a good RC pro charger like the IMAX B6 for under $30, your batteries will charge better and will last longer cycles. The Main body sticker is already on but they give you some smaller ones to put on your body, head lamps, tail lights, grill, etc.... The controller uses 2-AA batts. Has a Low speed, I guess for easy climbing or normal which is where this truck really shines through, FAST! Has proportional forward speed and one slow reverse speed, you can brake when going forward by jamming the controller into reverse speed quickly and letting off. Has a steering adjustment on the controller, which is very touchy, just very very small adjustments when making it go straight on the trim. The 380 Brushed motor comes with a nice aluminum heatsink attached, I removed it and applied some thermo paste to better get the heat off the motor. I run it on concrete, grass, dirt, gravel and asphalt. Seems very sturdy and the plastic is not hard but has some rubbery give, so you won't be breaking parts all the time. *Update* HAIBOXING came through with the warranty. Originally activated April 3, notified of defective part April 14 (my fault on the lateness), had a replacement M1811 at my house May 4. Down time of about a month, but they mailed it totally free in less than three weeks from CA to MI. Thank you, the fun is back! I feel this car is spot on for the price point. My 9 year old had a blast with this for about a day. Super fast an maneuverable car. True to the description, the battery is good for about 20 minutes. Luckily they do send a second battery, but you may want to stock up on a couple more, they go quicker than they charge. The fun was all gone after 9yo came in crying, as one of the rear wheels stopped working. They send a very detailed parts diagram, and found that part M1811, the Rear Differential Assembly had sheared its connector to the wheel shaft. There's a 6 months free parts warranty valid within 15 days of registering the product. We got it yesterday, writing this review in hopes they come through with a new M1811 Differential assembly. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This little guy is awesome! I was excited to receive it. I took it out of the box and threw in some batteries to the remote and plugged in the cars battery and away we go! It has a lot of spunk! The controller allows for a mild mode or wild mode! Slow does exactly what is says, it tones the throttle down to make it more manageable while you get the feel for it. NORMAL mode then cranks it to a 10! The build quality feels actually pretty nice. It's got some weight for how small it is. I wanted to get a quick review of my initial thoughts before I have a chance to really see what it's capable of. As of right now, the 80$ price point is very much worth it. If you are new and wanting to get into hobby RC, ceck this RC out I really recommend it! Update: Been running for a couple days now. It's been raining and very wet but it still keeps trucking along. Even had a full size X-Maxx rail road my poor car but besides tearing the plastic body, this thing still keep ticking!
