We live in the Sierra gold country at almost 3000' elevation. It gets REAL cold and the room we use most in our house is the original structure with 22" thick walls, slate floor, and a rock fireplace with an old woodstove that works really well. However, there is no door to close to trap the heat in this room--and it opens into a newer room with an open beam 20' ceiling that gets really cold. Since the woodstove is always pulling air in to keep the fire burning, it's drawing the cold air from the unused portion of the house. These curtains, while not particularly heavy, block that cold air. The temperature in the room with the woodstove now remains a comfortable level in the low 70s. The rest of the house is around 55°! The curtains are definitely doing their job, and doing it with style. They look great! I've had a question regarding the type of curtain rod we used, and wasn't sure when I answered the question. Here's what we ordered for the entire system, and it's working the way we want it to.
