This truck is well worth it. Bought this for my son’s 8th birthday and he loves it. When he is in the school my husband plays with it too! My 3 years old even try’s to run with it to keep up with the speed. Battery life is pretty good and the amount of times it’s run into things and kept going is more than I can count. No assembly required except for installing the batteries, which require the included Phillips screwdriver. There are screws that hold the battery covers in place, so you have to use the included screwdriver to open or close them. That can keep small children from getting to them. It comes with two rechargeable batteries for the car, and the remote uses two AA batteries that are included as well. To use it, you turn on the car and the remote and they pair automatically. The controls are simple. Two joysticks you control with your thumbs. One for forward/reverse, and one for left/right. The truck goes moderately fast. It is not slow, and it is not super-fast.
