  • This kit has 3 key features that are a must have
Color: 60cells-clear-with Light
Funny thing is, when this package arrived I was in the middle of transplanting some seedlings I had growing in another similar kit. But here's the difference and key features this kit has over others. So going back to my transplanting. I have tomato, lots of peppers, chives, parsley, basil and dill seedlings that were outgrowing the cells. So upon transplanting I found it difficult to free the plants from the cells and broke the soil on many of them. I also found that some of the seedlings had massive roots and others had weak roots and could have waited a little longer before transplanting. So this kit solves the problems. First these starter trays have taller domes so I can let the plants get a little bigger prior to removing the dome. I always open the vents a few days prior. Second, because the cells are somewhat clear, I will be able to see the roots develop and can better gauge how healthy the seedling is and lastly when it comes time to transplant, I can push up on the silicon bottom to free the plants from the cell. These 3 key components are a game changer and worth a few extra dollars. These will easily last years with proper care so worth investing in good tools. I've already started my next batch of seeds using these and my next transplanting session will go much smoother. Oh yes, the other items to discuss, really secondary at this point. The kit does come with the standard round LED full spectrum lights and a controller that provides 10 stages of dimming, 3 light settings and a timer. Fairly standard for these kits. In fact I've used the lights from one kit on another's dome and they always fit. And yes the package does include the little tools that are helpful. The Pen and labels are the accessories I like best. Going forward and after learning a lot, I will only be using this kit. Guess I need to order more. By the way, when using these trays with domes and if possible a heating mat set to 75 degrees, seedlings sprout about 50% faster than without. ... show more

  • Nice Trays, Rather Small Cells
Color: 60cells-clear Base
Overall I'm happy with this tray kit. It does come with everything needed and it works well. I am a fan of the pop-out bottoms and they seem like they will last a while. The individual seed cells are really quite small. I would prefer it to be a bit bigger. Industry standard would be a tray that is roughly 9.5" to 10" long so that you could turn it 90 degrees to your heat mat. These are only about 7" long at the base so they are quite a bit smaller than anticipated, making each cell quite small as well. It's not a big deal if you manage your seedlings accordingly, but it will mean potting up much faster as they will outgrow these cells in a hurry. I prefer to leave them alone for further root growth before potting up. All in all, it's a good setup and I'm not unhappy with it. ... show more

  • Smart use of silicone to make transplanting a breeze
Color: 60cells-green Base
For the last few months I’ve been stocking up on clear plastic plug trays, which come with a humidity dome and a small tray underneath for catching drips. These are much better quality than the black six-pack trays that have been standard for seed-starting - they’re made of thick plastic, and built to last. Just one problem: They’re so thick that it’s hard to pop your ready-to-transplant seedling out of the plug. (I’ve been using a butter knife, but some transplant shock is inevitable.) Now, somebody has wisely solved this problem by marrying a flexible silicone bottom to a stiff plastic top. Use your thumb to pop your transplants out of these plugs, and you’ll minimize transplant shock. They're more expensive than other transplant solutions, but I expect to be able to use these for years and years. The silicone is very well-bonded to the plastic top, using some industrial magic. It'll take me a few weeks to get some seedlings to transplant size with these trays, but I tamped some seed-starting mix into one cell to try it out and it popped out intact. As for the extra-tall domes — I’ll be honest, I usually only use domes until my seedlings emerge, and then I put the tray under grow lights in the basement. But maybe that’s an appealing feature for you. ... show more

  • These are Great
Color: 60cells-clear Base
This is about the third set of these I've gotten. As the price of starter plants goes up and up, I've started leaning into starting things from seeds more and more. I've tried just regular starter pots and trays and even with heat mats it just wasn't going as well as I've hoped. These are a total game changer. They are well made so one can get repeated uses from them. They get your seeds going super fast. Most of mine sprout within 2 to 4 days. I like the tops having vents you can regulate. Even the wiring for the grow lights is easy to use. The timer is a great bonus as well...sort of set and forget for a few days. I love coming back to see the magic happening I wanted another set because I've already started two different batches in my other ones and want to do alot more before spring. These are allowing me to start things from seed you can't find the plants for here including a number of perennial herbs I've wanted for a while. If you want to get serious about seed starting this is a great place to begin. ... show more

  • Love the compact, sturdy design
Color: 60cells-green Base
This set has everything in it you need - not more not less. The inner and outer tray as well as the lid are made from a durable material. It doesn't feel weak and breakable like other brands I used before. When I first unpacked it my thoughts were "I can use this for the next decade or even longer"! The air valve was easy to press onto the lid and helps with a good ventilation. It is good that the tray only has 12 cups so it has a compact design that fits on every window sill. Also carrying is more comfortable than the huge, wobbly trays I used before. I like the tall lid that gives my seedlings more space to sprout. The flexible bottom of the cells make it easy to remove the baby plants when they are ready for replanting. The tiny gardening tools are very helpful to prepare and care for my plants. The sturdy and durable labels come with a waterproof marker pen so I have everything on hand to tag my seeds. I highly recommend this set! ... show more
