**Background:** I'm a guy returning to golf after a 25+ year break. I was a scratch golfer before. Recently, I started again because my son and daughter want to learn the game, and now they are old enough to decide whether to play. I know the game well; I grew up in New England, so during winter, I spent thousands of hours hitting off different types of mats. Recently, I’ve also been testing some of the new club technology by visiting various golf stores, trying different clubs, and experimenting with different surfaces. So, I feel very comfortable providing insight into this hitting mat. **Build Quality:** When I first received this, I thought it was going to be a dud because they're using some kind of foam similar to yoga mat foam, just thicker. The longer grass feels nice, but it doesn’t stick very well to the mat. With my iron, I always take a divot just past the ball. Very quickly, this started shedding. I haven't hit many balls yet, so perhaps the shedding will stop. Regarding the foam, I'm used to heavier density mats, so I was skeptical. However, I have to say the feel is pretty good both for short and long shots. It feels especially good if you take divots. A couple of issues are the tee holes located just inside the longer grass—they’re too close unless you're very small. I’m 6’ 2”, and there’s no way I could hit a driver or use those holes with a rubber tee on the short grass; my feet would be off the mat. I also dislike the small cutout that acts as a ball holder—it takes up valuable space. I’d prefer more of the longer grass. The slot is very narrow, and I don't think it's practical for long-term use in that small track. Overall, the measurements are 47" x 59", which is off by 1 inch in each direction. I drew a diagram and posted a photo of my measurements. The unusual arrangement of the holes in the small cutout, the short grass, and the supposed ball tray, along with the durability of the longer grass, might earn this a star deduction. But I really like how it feels, and it seems easier on my wrists, especially since I always take divots with my irons. If used indoors, the shedding of the longer grass could create some mess. Overall, I’m pleasantly surprised by the realistic feel of this. So, I'm willing to sacrifice some durability and some quirky design aspects for a decent turf feel that's easier on the wrists, which I believe this offers. So for me, functionality is more important than potential durability issues.
