I gave this product a try even though some reviewer's left bad reviews. I first tried it in a really bad area of my lawn. Waited til after our days of rain came to a halt. I raked the soil a bit then placed pieces on top of soil. Used those metal lawn clamps to hold it down. Used the hose to lightly wet it a couple of times a day but after 3 days I honestly forgot to water it. On one section I put soil on top but on another just left it bare. Its been almost 3 weeks now and it has rained twice in the past week. Although I lost track of taking care of this area by watering it lightly 3 times a day, I noticed today grass has been growing and its about an inch and a half high. Imagine if I did exactly what the instructions stated and watered it everyday. If you buy this, just follow the directions. Its thin so dont dump water on it or use hose with jet stream, it will ruin it for sure and not work. Will definitely buy more to do backyard now. Thanks seller! ... show more

I read many of the reviews and with so much positive and of course some negative, I decided to give it a try. I laid multiple strips over bare dirt. I watered regularly and hoped for the best. After about 4 weeks there was absolutely no change. I wondered if there were any seeds in the mat. I did not bother to shred it to find out. I just gave up. Perhaps i did something wrong but simply do not know. I have most of the roll remaining as I was testing in on about 10 square feet of area. It is about a year since I wrote the above review. I decided to give this product another chance so I cleared and prepared about a 3 foot square area. I made sure it was well watered. Now after about 2-3 months you can see the results in the pictures. While there is some grass growth this time, most of the area shows no growth or vey sparse growth. The pictures are not great as there are a lot of pine needles over the grass due to some strong wind. However, I think you can get the idea. I loved the potential of this product but found it pretty useless. As an experiment, I seeded another section of the lawn with traditional seed and watered in the same way. While I did not attach a picture that area shows lush lawn growth. Bottom line, for me, this product simply did not live up to expectations. ... show more

Followed the instructions, super easy install. Grew well but had some patches with no seed. Had to make a second attempt on this spots. Not sure now it will last btt it so far so good and even if it’s just for one season, priced well enough

    • Doesn't work very good
Put these in my yard and watered them daily. After two weeks, I could finally see some grass growing. It was very spotty and didn't grow as fast or thick as some products I've used.

    • Make sure you remove all the old grass and weeds ,and keep that you keep it Wetumpka fully grown.
I like the fact that you do not have to use salt hay to keep seed in place. Then have to clean up the hay. I did a 12' x 12' area in my front yard , grew in perfectly.

    • Grows great if you can keep it in place and water it regularly
I covered my whole yard in this stuff based upon a successful trial with a smaller area. The main thing to know is that if you are in a windy area, you are going to be babysitting and repositioning this stuff daily until it sprouts. Any serious wind and it becomes a kite and blows all over. If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing and keeping it damp, you then have to be extremely careful to get it back in position without destroying it, as it basically loses all structural integrity when it is wet, and walking on it will also destroy or put holes in it if the underlying soil is soft, so it is really a challenge to keep it in position. Overall, to do it again, and even now as I stare at my rolls which overnight were blown all over the yard - about 2000 sqft or over 700 dollars of material - I would just cover it all in a half inch of topsoil. This will keep birds from eating it, make it germinate and grow more quickly, and retain water a bit better so it would not require multiple waterings per day to stay damp. If you cover it with a bit of dirt, and keep it moist, you will have excellent results. Otherwise, just buy some sod and be done with it. I mean, it is really a sort of disaster when you wake up at 5am and look at your yard and have a bunch of stuff to do before work and you realize that you have to get out there and do an hour of grass seed roll repositioning and rehabilitation or your $3000 lawn project is going to look like hammered feces. These people really did not think through what any sort of wind at all will do to an installation without some sort of soil holding it down. Kind of a major oversight. I support US businesses and this is made in Santa Barbara, but come ON guys! You are seriously sinking my battleship over here. Get with the program and tell people how to make this stuff work. Topsoil, topsoil, topsoil. The turf is really nice once it gets going, but this is ridiculous. ... show more

    • Waste of money
I wish I could return it. Tried to secure it down but wind blew it up daily despite 3 times daily watering. The wind tore holes and after 1 heavy rain it disintegrated. Not a sign of grass sprouting and can’t even see any seed after the rain.
