  • Overall a good player, great aesthetics and has that twang you’re looking for
Color: Green
Firstly, the overall finish work is really beautiful. It has a very pro looking Sherwood green metallic finish and a nice pearly pickguard, roasted maple neck. If you are a fan of Sherwood Green metallic, this will really do it for you. The overall look and feeling in your hands is very satisfying. The finish is very glossy and the neck has a satin finish, There were minimal sharp fret ends on the neck, but no more than the other guitars in this price range, it was there, but very minimal. No other negatives. All positives. the slim neck is great, the most standout feature is the low tension and ease of string bending. The low tension allows bending and shredding like I haven’t felt in too many guitars. I love how easy it is to bend strings. That plus is worth so much to me. I like playing this lot because it makes my lead guitar playing a little easier without struggling to bend strings, Great finish, slim neck and easy to play. The tone is very T like, not exactly like a stock T tone, but it is a nice single coil tone that’s very close. Very nice bang for your buck ... show more

  • Poor quality
Color: Green
Nice looking guitar, love the color however the feet ends are sharp & unfinished & the B string buzzes on the first fret, looks & feels really cheap. It was cheap but I’m not impressed with the quality.

  • Solid entry guitar, but needs setup
Color: Green Black
I've purchased several inexpensive guitars on Amazon, to practice modifications and set-up skills. This is my first guitar from Grote, a unique take on a tele style guitar, with a slightly offset waist, short lower horn and cool finish. Overall, it's functional, but not ready for a beginner out of the box. Here're the details: Good: beautiful matte finish, awesome dark green color with pearloid pick guard, smooth maple neck and fretboard. Action was set low and no string buzz, so frets, bridge and neck all level and straight. Pickups provide nice tonal variety, and the expected tele "twang". Bad: fret ends were really sharp, some of the worst I've encountered from sub $200 guitars. The frets are scratchy on the strings, so need polished. Strings were low quality and don't intonate well despite an acceptable cut nut and adjusting saddle springs to impact length. When I changed the strings, the nut fell out (no glue or dried out?) and the tuners and tuning trees screws were all loose. Overall: any new guitar, especially bargain level intro instruments will benefit from a new set of quality strings and intonation and action adjustments. This is expected and I don't hold that against this Grote. But the sharp frets were really painful and scratchy tops sound and feel terrible when bending and fretting strings. Loose screws and nut are easy fixes but not great confidence builders when handling a brand new guitar. That's all QC that was passed up to provide the guitar at this price. I like the look and feel, and body is heavier and components feel sturdier than say a Glarry/Ktaxon,but playability out of the box not quite as good as Indio or Squier. Still, decent value at $99 and after some setup, it will be a fun guitar to play and modify (my intent!) ... show more

  • Good Beginner Guitar but Sharp Fret Ends
Color: Green Black
This arrived well packaged. First, the cable is usable, but nothing special. The guitar itself is very attractive. I like the look of Grote guitars in general. This one it typical with no sharp edges on the body, a very nice finish, four screws fastening the neck to the body instead of a plate, and blacked out hardware. Really nice looking. The tuners are smooth and responsive. The string trees are well placed to match the break angle of the higher strings over the nut. The nut appears to be some type of plastic, but it's cut well enough. There are some sharp surfaces on the nut slots, but a little 400 grit sandpaper will go a long way there. The frets are smooth and there are no high frets. However, the fret ends are as sharp as any I've ever experienced. The fret board is extremely dry as is the back of the neck. So, I'm thinking the guitar was stored somewhere for a long time and the wood dried out causing the dryness and shrinking the wood enough to cause the very sharp frets. I took a 320 grit sanding sponge to the fret ends and that cleared up most of the problem. The heel of the neck is separated somewhat from the body of the guitar. I'll have to take it apart and look at what's causing that, but it didn't interfere with playing it out of the box. The electronics all work fine. The ceramic pickups sound good on clean tones. And the bridge is notable for having the grub screws on the saddles not protrude at all. That's nice for palm muting. The setup wasn't too bad. So a beginner could conceivably play this right out of the box. The neck had just a hint of relief. The low E was 8/1000th and the high E 6/1000th above the frets. Intonation was close enough and the nut was cut well enough for cowboy chords to sound okay. The guitar weighs 7.2 pounds, right in the ballpark for the typical tele. Final Thoughts - The fret ends were really bad, but easily fixed. The guitar is a fun one to play. I'll probably drill it to be a string through, sand the back of the neck and condition the fret board when I change the strings. I'll clean up the nut a little. And this will be a good beginner guitar. As such, for a around 110 dollars with a coupon, it's a reasonable value for money. ... show more

  • Stunning Look and Great Value!
Color: Blue
The Grote Solid Electric Guitar GTLM-4 in metallic blue is an absolute showstopper! The finish is vibrant and eye-catching, and the basswood body feels lightweight yet solid. The maple neck and fretboard are smooth and comfortable, making it a joy to play, whether you’re practicing at home or performing. The tone is surprisingly versatile, with a bright, clean sound that works well for multiple genres. The craftsmanship is excellent for the price, with no sharp fret edges and reliable hardware. This guitar looks and plays like something much more expensive. If you're looking for an affordable, high-quality electric guitar with style and great playability, the Grote GTLM-4 is a fantastic choice. Highly recommend! ... show more
