  • Love this Grote...you will too!!
Color: Vintage Sunburst
This Grote Hollow Body far exceeds what I expected. To start, it's a thin hollow body so it is very, very comfortable to play. The fit and finish are beautiful..perfect in my opinion. The intonation was spot on and the action on this guitar needed zero adjustment. I normally change the strings on new guitars in this price point, but found that totally unnecessary in this case. Simple tuning and that was it...nothing else needed. The tuners are nice and after the usual stretching and tuning, they held the strings well. The body has a double binding and it finishes nicely up the to the headstock. The inlays on the neck look spectacular. The neck is satin smooth...the fret work is amazing, no sprout or sharp edges as they are polished and rounded off perfectly. The pickups produce a nice rich sound thru all my amps. This is one of my favorite guitars for sure, and I am so happy with it...you absolutely cannot go wrong with this guitar purchase and I HIGHLY recommend it! ... show more

  • Great guitar, you will like
Color: Vintage Sunburst
I give 5 stars because of the price, it sound great and looks beautiful, you can play it acoustically and it sounds pretty good. I replaced the tuners with Gotoh SG381-01 and they fit, also changed the strings and gave it a full setup and it now plays wonderfully. Also bought a cheap hard case for a 335 and it fits good. ... show more

  • Great guitar for the money (with aftermarket tuners)
Color: Natural
Great purchase, I love the guitar. It's louder as an acoustic than I expected and sounds as nice as it looks, which is a compliment. Action was high-ish out of the box but I knew I was going to do a fretboard level and setup. The board was flat so didn't need to touch the truss rod and only had a few high frets to knock down and polish. The tuners are absolute junk, so know that going in and change them out asap (I mean, really really bad). I slapped a $35 set of Guyker locking tuners on it and would highly recommend them. They stay in tune ten thousand times longer. Single coil sounds fine but I mostly play it acoustically. ... show more

  • Great Value That Needs Work
Color: Red
This guitar is not perfect. It needs work. Over the last sixteen years I have bought nine guitars and four ukuleles. ALL OF THEM needed work. Most were returned or sold. This one needs work too. The neck needed an adjustment. So I turned the truss rod a little with the included wrench. The nut needs to be cut deeper. I've got nut files. The intonation isn't perfect. Since it has a floating bridge (not solidly attached) AND adjustable saddles, fixing that was easy. The tuners look great. Some of them slip a little. I have locking tuners ready to be installed the next time the strings are changed. The big butter bean knobs look good and can be removed. I hope they fit the locking tuner set. Otherwise the tulip design will remain. The finish has some nearly invisible scratches on the neck that can be felt; and some polish was stuck in a really tiny spot along the neck joint. Some paint was missing in that spot. That is why the polish filled in that crack. The pick guard isn't smooth on the edge. Some sandpaper can fix that if i even bother. The frets don't poke out. The frets need to be leveled. It doesn't seem to have any egregiously high frets. I have a leveling beam and fret crowning tools. The frets will be fixed when the strings are changed. The acoustic sound is great. I don't need to plug in when practicing. The strings ring a long time. The P90 pickup is unique. I've heard many. This one has plenty of highs. So much in fact, that with the tone knob turned to maximum, it sounds almost the same plugged in as unamplified. I love the tone. Grote should sell these pickups alone. The volume and tone knobs work smoothly without noise. I love the red color. The clear coat over the red makes it look awesome. Just as good as a red Gibson 335. The Crossrock CRW620SABK hard shell case sold on Amazon fits this guitar. The lower bout fits properly. The upper bout doesn't touch the sides. This guitar is modeled after a Gibson ES 125T. Look it up. The Epiphone Century 1966 looks the same. The scale length of this Grote is 25.5 inches NOT 24.75 inches as described above. The original ES 125T also had a 25.5 inch scale length. The bottom bout is also 1/4 inch wider than the ES 125T. This Grote Jazz Hollow Body guitar will be kept forever. I love the tone and the look. The trapeze tail piece contributes to the great sound. Anybody who likes this style guitar should get one. Even if you don't know how to do the work it needs, pay another $100-$200 to get it done. It will still be worth it in the long run. ... show more

This guitar was perfect. I returned it but it was not the guitar's fault.

  • Two's the Charm!
Color: Red
I bought the sunburst version over a year ago, but I always wanted the red one. The sunburst is loud enough so I don't have to plug it in, and that helps when you have family trying to sleep! These are among the best built and the only thing they need as far as I am concerned is a spacer under the pickup as it sits a little low and no way to adjust it up. So I bought a spacer for a P-90 for the sunburst one which made it sound much better tonally as well as give it more volume when you need it. I will do the same for this red version as well. I am not saying it sounds bad the way it is, because it really does. It's just better with the spacer. In other words it is not a necessity, but it makes a good guitar even gooderer :-). I give it a perfect score and you will never find more bang for the buck anywhere. ... show more
