Great bass for beginners trying to learn foundations of playing. Much better bases out there, just not smart to spend $500-$1000+ for a beginner that doesn't stick to it and end up quitting. But, spend how you want. My son is enjoying it, and I have shot some videos with it already.

I already own 2 Ibanez basses with active pickups. I wanted an extra bass with passive pickups. So I tried this one from Grote. It was pretty good. The knobs work fine and the input for the jack works well. It sounds good too, I didn't have any problems with it. I will be keeping the bass. I wasn't expecting any extras with it, but it came with a cheap guitar cord and a couple of tools. Maybe I'll test out Grote's guitars next. ... show more

    • Arrived with gouge on back of guitar
Arrived well packaged and in good condition. It’s a nice looking guitar. Edit: I didn’t look at the back of the guitar, which unfortunately has a big gouge in it, found by my son when he opened it on Christmas. The guitar also seems to generate some feedback when it’s plugged into the amp, so I’m concerned that this isn’t only cosmetic. Reduced star rating as a result and contacting seller. ... show more

One of the volume controls started spinning in a circle, and the 1/4” socket works only intermittently. If you’re willing to replace half the electronics it ought to be a good bass. I haven’t made any changes to mine yet, but I’m going to keep it rather than smacking it around a light post. The neck is fine and the sound isn’t half-bad. ... show more

First impression, this bass is beautiful! The finish is a high gloss polyurethane, the neck is shaped perfect for my beginner hands and the print figuring on the body is flashy in an understated way. The neck is flat and true. The hardware is acceptable. I am taking it in for a set up which will take a couple weeks, and replacing the original strings (though the stock strings are probably fine). I will update this review after I get the bass back with more insights on this instrument, but so far, 5 stars for the budget bass! Update: I got the bass back, nut, bridge and neck were all fine tuned and are within specification for easy playing no buzzing, no high or low frets. Everything is great! Jam on! ... show more

Took it out of the case and began tuning it to E standard when the nut broke. The Glarry bass for less than half the price is of much better quality than this. Not even 5 minutes out of the box and it’s already broken beyond use.
