Compared to maple, birch has a more aggressive and brighter tone with very good projection, and this drum has a more balanced tone than beech wood which tends to be heavier on the lower frequencies.

The bearing edge on this snare is super sharp! I received item # 444 of 1000 made. The heads are super thick, even the snare side head is super thick like a hazy 500 or 600! Has a great loud tone. When I first tuned the batter head the bearing edge started to crack the coating on the head. Luckily I'm also a woodworker and was able to recut the bearing edge and sounds BETTER no cracking of my heads! But you get what you pay for , this drum is under $50 . The new heads I put on it plus the snare wires was over $50. So there's that. I still recommend this drum to anyone but beware of these issues.

Tuning is impossible with this snare! Metal is so weak that any tension at all, it bent!!!! Great Looking snare with very low quality of metal!!!! So disappointed!!!!!

I put a Evans genera dry, a Evans snare side 300, & a Puresound Equalizer snare wire on it. Tuned it on the higher side. Put a evans e ring on top to control the ring a little bit. Getting a loud thick crack from it. Sounds good for rock and doom/sludge metal.
