  • Buddy maybe... but definitely not a friend
Before I tell the bad I should say that I was very impressed with head on this gun. It allows you maximum access into tight details on trim. There are three problems I encounter that left me feeling like my little "green buddy" let me down. I too found that I had to hold the trigger while attaching the hose in order for it to fire. Also annoyed by its inability to use all sizes of Senco brand brads. Some sizes no problem, other sizes will separate the clip into smaller pieces and then jam the gun. And lastly, not terrible impressed the setting of nails. Will set them fine generally, but every so often it will leave one sticking up. So if your looking for a buddy, the high maintenance kind, then by all means get this guy. ... show more

  • Amazing
I bought this nailer some time ago after careful reading of reviews on 18g pneumatic nailers. I got it and put it to work immediately. It is a great nailer leaving only a small hole which can be easily puttied over if desired, but since the holes are small, with most work I don't bother. I have used two different lengths of nails and both functioned flawlessly. It has never jammed on me and the nail magazine is robust. I really like how it is very simply made to the point where it looks cheap, but many of the forgings/castings are meant to last. So far I have used it on softwoods only, so I cannot speak on how it will handle oak. My only complaint is that it is small and light enough that a standard Goodyear rubber hose feels unwieldily hooked to it, so I might, and I bite my lip saying it, I might recommend using one of those cheaper coiled nylon hoses when using this gun. In soft wood, such as pine molding, the nails always seated below grade, which is what I want, but sometimes a holding nail which can later be removed is nice, so you may still be forced to set these by hand unless you want to change the depth setting. Overall I am trilled with this purchase. ... show more

  • Believe the bad reviews!
I bought this gun for use while replacing the molding in my home. The gun worked flawlessly on the first ~1000 feet of cherry. The tiny holes, no larger than the nail itself, really made me debate whether most had to even be filled- I eventually decided to fill all of them. Then I missed my belt holder and dropped the gun on concrete, which landed directly on its nose. After spending an inordinate amount of $ on replacement parts the gun never worked 'flawlessly' again. Still enamored by its initial performance, I bought a replacement. This second gun was even worse than the first, post-drop. Like many other reviewers have said, the gun jams regularly and sporadically leaves a nail proud of the surface; as Murphy's law would have it, usually right at eye-level on standing trim. By proud, I don't mean 0.10" of adjustable depth- I mean 0.25" proud! As you may know, hot-glue coated 18 gauge nails can neither be pounded in nor removed. The best you can do is cut it off and pound the remaining stub in slightly using a nail set- a real butcher job, to be sure The mechanism that prevents dry firing after exhausting the nails has never worked, not once, on the second gun- again, producing several empty holes before the operator realizes something isn't right. After every reload, I have to test the gun on a 2X4 just to make sure it's feeding properly to, again, avoid producing several empty holes before realizing the gun isn't nailing. It's incredibly frustrating to have continuous errors introduced into molding that has been primed, sanded and painted by the most expensive and least performant 18 gauge gun on the market. Stay away! ... show more

  • Great Nailer
Just like my Grex 23 gauge pin nailer, this 18 gauge works perfectly... It definately cost more than most other brad nailers, but it makes up for it in performance... I've ran a couple thousand nails through it already and only had one jam and that's only because I hit a metal drywall corner bead... I've been using it for base board installation and its such a pleasure to cover up the pin size holes made by the nails... I really like the fact that the hammer doesn't strike the material - leaving only a nail size hole.... It's light weight and feels like its built to last... changing from sequential to rapid fire is as easy as moving a small lever... Oh and the lock out feature is awsome (So few guns have that and if you're like me, you'll shoot 1/2 a dozen holes before you realize you have no nails).... If you need a quality nailer, pay the extra $100 and get this one... You'll be very happy you did... ... show more

If a tool does not serve its purpose than the tool is useless!I got this gun in December to install moldings, and from the beginning it seemed the nails are not set very deep in any kind of wood, long or short nails! "The Posit-Fire Depth Control Dial has positive detents that prevent the adjustment setting from changing during use of the tool.As the dial is turned from one detent to the next, the depth setting is adjusted by approximately 0.008"(0.2mm).There are a total of 11 detent settings" That means a nail shoul be countersink at 2.2mm wich is almost 1/8"!that never happened to my tool!So I had to send it back to Hartville Tool after two months( and that only because I did not use the gun that much for the Holliday season to notice this sooner). They told me the tool needs to be tested and if they find there is nothing wrong with it there would be a 15% restocking fee if I want a refund or they can send it back to me( of course,I have to pay shipping) After a few testings, they tell me there is nothing wrong with the tool! Now if that's the case, then, as I started my review, the tool is useless for not being able to countersink the nails! If they said there is nothing wrong with the tool just to charge me the restocking fee( bought the tool for $198, cost me $13 to ship back, refunded only $163.80= I lost $47.20 in the tool)then Shame On Them! Overall,it was a bad experience for me!you don't spend $200 on a brad nailer every day,so when you do it,you expect a lot in return!i have to say the gun is very well built with a very nice feeling and a lot of features,I research this tool a lot before I decided I would by one expensive tool instead of couple cheap ones. ... show more
