This guitar is awesome. It plays like butter, so smooth. The neck is comfortable (I have large hands). It has perfect intonation. It has stayed in tune even after using the tremolo. I love the sound from the Broad'Tron humbucking pickups. They are quiet, as humbuckers should be, until you stroke the strings and the notes come alive through the amp. Plus, the guitar is gorgeous with the deep blue metallic body accented with gold hardware. As with Gretsch, this guitar is versatile as you can play just about any style. It's about the size of a Les Paul, but slightly lighter with the semi-hollow body. My LP is about 10.5 pounds with this one being around 7 or 8 pounds. It came well wrapped and was well protected. The guitar was playable right out of the box. The only thing that is somewhat annoying are the strap pins. They screw on, with the posts in the guitar: one in the wood on the front and one in the metal on the tail. The one in the wood will eventually unscrew itself, so you do have to be careful, but you can't screw that one in too much as you may strip out the wood. I ended up applying a dab of wood glue to the post and letting it set in the wood. Then you could tighten it a little more. The tail pin screws into the metal so that one can screw it down tightly. High end guitar with a midi range price tag
I just purchased a Gretsch G5655TG a week ago. Its been upgraded with TV Jones pick ups and locking tuners, so I can"t comment on those. But the overall playability is superb! The build quality is that of much higher priced guitars. Its comfortable to play. The bigsby tremolo works flawlessly and stays in tune unless you really get crazy with it,and still its not out enough that you cant finish the song before returning. I cant seem to put this guitar down,its that fun to play. This thing inspires me to play . ... show more

This guitar is very attractive, plays very well, is a perfect size, and has amazing sustain. It is in fact everything you would expect from Gretsch. The reason I only gave it 4 stars are the pickups. If you happen to glance at the photograph you will see it sitting in the stand below a Martin OM42 KOA, my criteria and standards are high. I also require extreme clarity from my instruments. The Broad-Tron pickups are rated at 9.5 for output and 7 for clarity. They are basically Gibson humbuckers. I understand that Gretsch, now being owned by Fender, wants to compete with the Gibson brand in the line of heavy metal and rock and roll guitars and that's fine. They will certainly do it with this guitar exactly the way it comes from the factory. I wanted a Gretsch more in the line of what Chet Adkins played back in the fifties. The solution for me was to replace the Broad Tron pickups with classic Filtertrons. Gretsch has plug-and-play pickups and I didn't even have to do any soldering. The result is certainly a five-star guitar. Filtertron pickups have power ratings of only seven and Clarity ratings of 9.5. The sound now is clean, clear as a bell, and yet I can still get a little crunch if I want by using the gain in my amp. Now, this is an amazing Ax. ... show more

Beautiful in so many ways
I own 8 guitars, from Fender to Epiphone to Ibenez. This guitar is by far my favorite - for sound, playability, and looks. It has great action in the neck, stays in tune even when you use the tremelo bar, and is very lightweight.
