  • Really dull blade.
I bought this saw a few months back, but used it for the first time today to cut a couple of pieces of manufactured flooring, often with sharp tools we say “cuts like butter. This saw would probably struggle cutting butter. Bare in mind I was cutting through a piece of 3/8 soft board clamped on a bench, but it just would not cut past around 2 inches, and kept wandering off the cutting line. Mitre saws have a fine blade for clean cuts, examining the blade after cutting it just looked thrashed. Maybe it’s just a faulty saw, but it’s too late to return it to amazon. Spend a few dollars more and get something better, it will be better in the long term and less frustrating. ... show more

  • Far cheaper than a miter saw
I used this to cut trim for two rooms. It was a little tedious, but I have time. I borrowed an air compressor and bought a Brad nailer. Spent about 200$ on trim work, instead of about 600$. This jig saved me hundreds of dollars by not buying a miter saw. Eventually I’ll get one, but not yet. I wouldn't recommend this for anything large. I cut some 2x4's today, and only used this miter box to score a line. After that, free hand was much easier, with a different sharp wood saw. ... show more

  • Great for frames and hobby projects.
This is a hobby product for sure. I bought this for a single project of 12 2'x4'x4" wood frames to be covered in fabric. There are two set screw holes on the base of the box. I secure the box on my wood bench and use a C clamp to secure the wood while cutting. I had no problems with the saw but with the nature of manual miter box work some people may have trouble. The plastic alignment groove does get ground out some during use, but my project came out fine. Just let the saw do the work and try not to rush. If I was building something more professional I would rent a miter saw. ... show more

  • You do really get what you pay for!
This is one of the poorest tools that I have ever tried, I say tried because it is so bad, to use. The saw catches and grabs with each stroke. The plastic it is made from is too brittle. There is a screw hole at each end to fasten it box to the bench. Under the screw holes there is a gap. The attachment to a bench, when tight enough to hold the box still is unsupported and mine cracked before the screws were tight. I would not recommend this to anyone for any purpose. ... show more

  • For the price, and ability to finish small job, 5 stars.
For the price, and the ability to finish my small project, 5 stars. Needed 3 cuts of door trim to complete a small door frame repair and the product worked much better than expected considering the price. Made my three "cuts" and got the job done. A couple of bits of advice for using this product, do use "quick grips" on table to stabilize your cut, and take "quick," short strokes when cutting, especially when starting your cut. Think finesse, not brute strength. The longer and slower your "cut," the more difficulty you will have. I planned to throw it away when I got done, it earned a spot in my storage shed. Lastly, if you are concerned about cutting into the plastic, finish your last cuts out of the "box" if you can manage it. ... show more

  • Got the job done - barely
I bought this to help replace the baseboard on one side of a room, where it suffered water damage. I didn't want to spend $200 for a miter saw, just to do 2-3 cuts, and thought this would be a good option. First, this box kit is VERY difficult to use. It must be mounted/screwed to something stable, as it is nearly impossible to use as it will slide around even if a 2nd person is trying to hold it in place. Second, my basic builder quality 3" baseboard doesn't fit, so that just adds to the difficulty trying to use this box kit. I had to find scrap wood to jam in the opening to keep the baseboard stable. I could not hold it in place and saw at the same time, even with a 2nd person trying to help. At 3", the baseboard was also too high, which required me to try and "eyeball" the cut until I got deep enough to use the guides in the box. Most baseboard is 3" or higher, so that makes this kit almost useless for that purpose. I would imagine if you wanted to cut quarter round, you would also need to jam in scrap wood to keep it stable as well. The sawing part was also VERY difficult. For some reason, the saw kept curving as it cut - mostly in a C shape, and eventually started cutting into the plastic guides. I have used a manual saw before, and never had this much difficulty cutting wood. I was able to eventually get my miter cuts done, but I don't know how many more uses I will get out of this kit, as one side of the guide is now off, due to my cutting into it. If you need to make more than just a few miter cuts, I would strongly suggest getting something better. This kit can be used in an emergency, but it is not designed well at all. ... show more

  • Get what you pay for
Would have been rated higher but the molded plastic makes an extremely tight fit for the saw blade. When cutting at a 45 with the saw is about 4 " too short forcing very short strokes.
