Description

These original transcriptions of fifty popular opera melodies for solo piano constitute about half of the current performance repertoire. From Aïda to Turandot and more, the collection includes contributions from nearly all of the major composers. Individual introductions offer a brief synopsis of the source opera, and archival images place each piece within its larger context. Suitable for intermediate-level pianists, selections include pieces from Amahl and the Night Visitors, The Barber of Seville, The Bartered Bride, Carmen, Cavalleria Rusticana, Die Fledermaus, Der Rosenkavalier, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Don Giovanni, Eugene Onegin, Faust, Hansel and Gretel, I Pagliacci, I Puritani, Il Trovatore, La Bohème, L'Africaine, Lakmé, La Traviata, Lohengrin, Lucia di Lammermoor, Madama Butterfly, The Magic Flute, Martha, Prince Igor, Rinaldo, Samson et Dalila, Tales of Hoffmann, Tannhäuser, Thaïs, Tosca, Tristan und Isolde, and more. • Some pieces are difficult but the book is beautifully illustrated
I'm very happy with the selection of tunes in this book. However, even though it's more difficult than I thought it would be, I don't mind making an effort and working on them. Some keys are quite difficult although the arrangements look attainable - I'm on an intermediate level and will need to work on these. They are too difficult for me to sight read. The book is full of photos and synopses and is lovely to look through even without playing. Recommend for opera lovers and players who are at least on an intermediate level, preferably more advanced though. ... show more

  • My mom loved it, thats all that matters
I got it for my mom since it had some of her favorite operas in it. She loves it, says she can't wait to play!
