  • Not my fave GTA but...
Platform: PC Edition: Standard
My favorite GTA is vice city, hands down. 4 is fine but I never found myself getting immersed in the story. Basically just finished it to finish it. 5 was/is very aggravating to me at first until I got familiar with the controls but it still frustrates me at times. I like this one better than 4, the story is way bigger and found myself invested in Trevor especially. I have a weird love/hate relationship with this game. I'm very critical of it but also find myself playing it more days than not. I came way late to this game which is nice cause all the info you'd need is already on the Internet ... show more

  • GTA at its Finest on PC
Platform: PC Edition: Standard
One of the best games I've ever played, even better than Just Cause 3 and others this year. Looks even better as well and performs wayyyyyyy better also. The budget for this game was around $380,000,000 which is sickening. The things you can do in this game is awesome, but this is all about the trio. My favorite is Franklin, then Trevor, then Michael. So glad they brought back Rampages from the PS1 GTA!! The characters are so unbelievably well voice acted and their faces are so spot on to real people talking you will never feel like you are just playing some game. You will empathize, you will laugh, and you'll scream at all the goes on. The characters you're supposed to hate...you will fail a mission just to have the satisfaction of killing them utterly. The ones you love you will go out of your way to protect with such cruel insanity. This game is so much better than all previous GTA games except maybe Vice City. I went back to Vice City a year ago and despite the nostalgia and the updated graphics for the PC modded version and so on, the game itself just doesn't hold a candle to GTA5 for story, voice acting, and realistic world. Oh man, the roads in GTA5 are so superb. Combine that with practiced mouse steering and in car view and you can glide across the world like you were really driving a car. It can be tough at high speeds, but man this game went all out in every single way. Some say GTA5 is a little boring but I have played it twice already and I just love the story and characters so much. And the stock market, wow, what a first for any game. What a fantastic idea. The game MAKES you invest in stocks to earn the big bucks and encourages after-story gameplay including online play (which is fun with friends when going nuts haha). Doing heists together is a real treat and there are so many variations to everything you do that it always feels fresh. This game is a PC masterpiece. Its spec are demanding for high. I run a 5820k@4GHz and an 8GB Sapphire Tri-X R9 390 and 16GB DDR4@3GHz and average a very VERY steady 40 FPS with all graphics totally maxed including 8xMSAA, Take all the graphics options, max them utterly including AA (not FXAA though) and that's it. The game is so well optimized that the frame rate stays steady. Other games will have spikes and drops but GTA is very well put together. Well done Rockstar, another fine game to go along with Red Dead Redemption and Vice City in your long-standing history of open world games. ... show more

  • The definitive edition is worth the wait. And the 7 DVD install.
Platform: PC Edition: Standard
I played the living daylights out of the PS3 collector's edition, but as a long-time GTA fan I knew the PC version was the one to wait for. The installation arrived on no less than 7 DVDs, confirming suspicions from unboxing photos. For reference, I remember when GTA3 came on two CDs and GTA: San Andreas on only one DVD. The installation hiccuped and forced me to start over halfway through Disc 3 but made it all the way through the second time. After that, I only had to wait through another 5GB patch download - as compared to the full 60GB download - before I could finally play. Either way this is the game that finally dragged my Luddite tech personality into the 2010s by also requiring a 64-bit system. Preorders do in fact come with the extra million, split $500K each to single-player and online modes. Transferring your MP player from console to PC is relatively painless, you apparently have to "wait" a couple minutes in single-player while your player is brought in. But you also get your MP achievements/trophies transferred from console as well, along with the aforementioned $500K. If you also got the special console editions like I did, you get the extra content from those unlocked for free. Not having previously played any of the new-gen versions (XB1 and PS4), I was legimately and mostly pleasantly surprised to experience the graphics generational jump. I don't have a maxed-out PC but nVidia did a great job with setting decent-enough graphics for my configuration (GTX 660/8GB RAM/i5-4670). First person view is definitely a treat, from dashboard views with working meters to that panic you feel when you have to bail out of a car in the middle of a gunfight. You will need to keep an extra eye on the health bar though since you can't hear bullets hitting you though. A word of advice to players transferring from console: because PC users play with mouse and keyboard, Free Aim is enabled by default even if you choose to use the controller. The keyboard layout is not left-hand friendly so if you're a lefty be sure to spend some time fixing the key bindings before you jump in. Apart from these and a few bumps expected of a launch game (benchmark tests apparently interfere with the intro mission if you run them first thing when you start and my game suddenly crashed during MP), I can still safely say that this is the version to wait for. ... show more
