  • Welcome to Los Santos: Where the chaos never sleeps and so does your sanity.
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
Grand Theft Auto V on PC is like that wild party you never wanted to attend but can’t stop going back to. Explosions, car chases, questionable life choices — all served up with a side of “Wait, did I just hit that guy... again?” What’s awesome: The open world is massive enough to get lost in for hours — and you will. The story is juicy, the characters are memorable, and the chaos? Oh, it’s real. Mods on PC? Prepare for a whole new level of insanity — from flying cars to rampaging dinosaurs. Graphics so good you might spend more time admiring the sunsets than causing mayhem (but just a little). Sarcastic gems: The loading screens test your patience, but hey, what’s a little waiting when you’re about to hijack a tank? The NPCs have the reflexes of sleepwalkers — perfect for pulling off your wildest stunts and crashes. If you’re not ready for near-constant police chases and chaos, you’re playing the wrong game. Final thoughts: GTA V on PC is an absolute blast, chaos factory, and occasional heart attack all rolled into one. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of time and responsibility. Rating: 5 stars — because who needs sleep anyway? ... show more

  • GTA at its Finest on PC
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
One of the best games I've ever played, even better than Just Cause 3 and others this year. Looks even better as well and performs wayyyyyyy better also. The budget for this game was around $380,000,000 which is sickening. The things you can do in this game is awesome, but this is all about the trio. My favorite is Franklin, then Trevor, then Michael. So glad they brought back Rampages from the PS1 GTA!! The characters are so unbelievably well voice acted and their faces are so spot on to real people talking you will never feel like you are just playing some game. You will empathize, you will laugh, and you'll scream at all the goes on. The characters you're supposed to hate...you will fail a mission just to have the satisfaction of killing them utterly. The ones you love you will go out of your way to protect with such cruel insanity. This game is so much better than all previous GTA games except maybe Vice City. I went back to Vice City a year ago and despite the nostalgia and the updated graphics for the PC modded version and so on, the game itself just doesn't hold a candle to GTA5 for story, voice acting, and realistic world. Oh man, the roads in GTA5 are so superb. Combine that with practiced mouse steering and in car view and you can glide across the world like you were really driving a car. It can be tough at high speeds, but man this game went all out in every single way. Some say GTA5 is a little boring but I have played it twice already and I just love the story and characters so much. And the stock market, wow, what a first for any game. What a fantastic idea. The game MAKES you invest in stocks to earn the big bucks and encourages after-story gameplay including online play (which is fun with friends when going nuts haha). Doing heists together is a real treat and there are so many variations to everything you do that it always feels fresh. This game is a PC masterpiece. Its spec are demanding for high. I run a 5820k@4GHz and an 8GB Sapphire Tri-X R9 390 and 16GB DDR4@3GHz and average a very VERY steady 40 FPS with all graphics totally maxed including 8xMSAA, Take all the graphics options, max them utterly including AA (not FXAA though) and that's it. The game is so well optimized that the frame rate stays steady. Other games will have spikes and drops but GTA is very well put together. Well done Rockstar, another fine game to go along with Red Dead Redemption and Vice City in your long-standing history of open world games. ... show more

  • Please read before purchasing!!!
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
I knocked off a star for issues with installing the game. Before making this purchase please be AWARE of the following: This game HATES screen capture software other than Rockstar's built in video editor. If you have D3DGear or any other software of the sort: THIS GAME WILL NOT RUN AFTER INSTALLING. You'll need to uninstall D3DGear and any other screen capture software. If you are using a mobile video card (usually nvidia) you'll need to disable then reenable it to start the game the first time. <-- *I believe this was patched however, you may still need to do this before downloading the patch to get it to run the first time* If you have an account name with characters other than space, numbers/letters, you'll have issues getting it to run prior to downloading the patch. As of right now their patches do not have a physical download link. It's through their built in patching system so getting to that point may prove difficult. Once started though, be prepared because this game is INCREDIBLE on the PC. ... show more

  • Runs Choppy - Update - Greatly Improved After PC Updated
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
Love the game, what I have been able to see of it. Even though I exceed minimum system requirements, it runs choppy when I move around in the game at a speed faster than walking. I have an Intel i5 that runs at 2.67GHz, a 1792MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275, and 4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz for memory. I know that the graphics card and ram do not meet recommended specs but they do meet or exceed minimum specs so I would expect that if I set the graphics to the lowest settings, it should run smoothly. It runs so choppy in high graphic areas like the city that I quit using it. I am going to add 8 GB more ram and see how it works. After that I will meet all of the recommended specs except for the graphics card which still exceeds the minimum specs. In addition to that, the game occasionally freezes up on me while I am moving. I tried to take a subway ride and it froze on me every time. It looks like the game is great, and I love the large map and game play using different characters but the poor video performance really spoils it for me. If additional ram improves the performance, I'll upgrade my 2 star rating. UPDATE - I replaced my 4 GB of memory with 8 GB of Crucial Memory. Vast improvement. The game now runs great. No lag time and the graphics are fantastic. The game is great and I can now give it a 5 star rating. ... show more

  • Stunning in 4K wide open
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
I would give this game more stars if there were more to give. I bought the box version. I have not had any of the issues I am seeing here. I understand some are upset but the one star deal is not at all deserving of this game. If some are having a problem I am quite sure it will be straightened out. As far as the game goes, it IS a masterpiece! I built a new rig back in December just for the release of this game. I am running 2 Nvidia 980s in SLI. Intel i7 4790 16 gig crucial ram ASUS 4 K monitor This is not a brag review. I am just here to tell you that if you were lucky enough to have the power to run it wide open in 4K, you would see something truly incredible. I do not say this lightly. The clarity and detail is simply astounding. So much of it looks so close to real I still can't believe my eyes. I can't even believe we have the technology to make a game play like this at this time. From GTA 4 to this is night and day. I loved GTA 4 and all of the ones before it but this one just puts them all to shame. The acting, the characters, the story, and the GRAPHICS!! The water effects alone are just incredible, even more so in certain lighting. The thunderstorms at night are so real. I really can't explain it. It is just something you have to see to believe. If people could see it in all of its glory they would definitely see the mistake of giving it anything less than 5 stars. Unfortunately many if not most will not see it in 4K. At least not for a while. So they will just not understand or they may say we are exaggerating. I assure you I am not and if you can pull of a rig that will run 4k and smoothly, do it! You will not be disappointed. ... show more

  • Corrupt Game Data
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
I had purchased this game because I really enjoyed the PS3 version I had. The PS3 died so rather than buy a whole new system, why not get the PC version instead? Well I will tell you why not. First some background. I am a computer programmer and I have a pretty beefy system. 6 core HT i7 Intel with 64GB of RAM and my display card is a NVidia 560 (kind of older I know, but from what I have read so long as I update my drivers it shouldn't be an issue). I had received a 7 DVD disc set and installation went without a hitch, signed up for my Social Club account and started the TRY, first there is the updater. I don't understand why, but after installation the first time, the game cannot get updates properly. Looking at the log files it appears that it is downloading because my router logs show I sucked down probably 350GB of data off their servers because I mistakenly thought that it had to be an all-night affair. I have to kill the update process and delete the .part files in the temp directory and restart it. The download then goes fast and smooth. Update occurs and now I should have the latest patches. I finally get the play the game. I play the first mission and all goes well, transition to Los Santos and I get to the second mission and half way through the game just crashes stating “Corrupt game data”. From this point you are pretty much done, because the only way I have found to get out of this problem is to reinstall 7 DVD discs which will take a while. Go through the awful buggy update process and then play again. After sleuthing around the internet I found some comments about VSync not working well on the NVidia, so I run NVidia’s game optimizer tool and use all the “Optimized” settings that NVidia claims should work. This gives me a small glamour of hope as I am now able to play the game for at least a couple of hours. However the inevitable finally does occur and the game just freezes and crashes out with the “Corrupt game data” error and it’s all over, I have to reinstall this crappy game all over again. Do not expect much help from Rockstar on the matter as most people seem to go days being ignored in their ticket system. Since the game can’t be returned I am just out $70. ... show more

  • The definitive edition is worth the wait. And the 7 DVD install.
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
I played the living daylights out of the PS3 collector's edition, but as a long-time GTA fan I knew the PC version was the one to wait for. The installation arrived on no less than 7 DVDs, confirming suspicions from unboxing photos. For reference, I remember when GTA3 came on two CDs and GTA: San Andreas on only one DVD. The installation hiccuped and forced me to start over halfway through Disc 3 but made it all the way through the second time. After that, I only had to wait through another 5GB patch download - as compared to the full 60GB download - before I could finally play. Either way this is the game that finally dragged my Luddite tech personality into the 2010s by also requiring a 64-bit system. Preorders do in fact come with the extra million, split $500K each to single-player and online modes. Transferring your MP player from console to PC is relatively painless, you apparently have to "wait" a couple minutes in single-player while your player is brought in. But you also get your MP achievements/trophies transferred from console as well, along with the aforementioned $500K. If you also got the special console editions like I did, you get the extra content from those unlocked for free. Not having previously played any of the new-gen versions (XB1 and PS4), I was legimately and mostly pleasantly surprised to experience the graphics generational jump. I don't have a maxed-out PC but nVidia did a great job with setting decent-enough graphics for my configuration (GTX 660/8GB RAM/i5-4670). First person view is definitely a treat, from dashboard views with working meters to that panic you feel when you have to bail out of a car in the middle of a gunfight. You will need to keep an extra eye on the health bar though since you can't hear bullets hitting you though. A word of advice to players transferring from console: because PC users play with mouse and keyboard, Free Aim is enabled by default even if you choose to use the controller. The keyboard layout is not left-hand friendly so if you're a lefty be sure to spend some time fixing the key bindings before you jump in. Apart from these and a few bumps expected of a launch game (benchmark tests apparently interfere with the intro mission if you run them first thing when you start and my game suddenly crashed during MP), I can still safely say that this is the version to wait for. ... show more
