  • Makeup saver for this big baby
I moved from the city to a more rural area about 4.5 years ago and developed major allergy issues. My nose was runny and eyes watery non-stop and allergy medicine alone wasn't cutting it. Because I wore makeup on a daily basis for work, I was wiping it off my nose with the constant nose-blowing with tissues. I know it's extra AF but I needed something that would save my makeup. I tried those manual silicone bulbs and they were useless! So, I saw this at Walmart and figured what the heck. At first try, I was very disappointed at the lack of suction so I just tossed it in a drawer and forgot about it. Fast forward to last year, I changed my city job to a job closer to home and had to drive through farms to get to the new job and my allergies got worse. I dusted off this nasal aspirator and looked online to see if there were any fixes for the suction. Lo and behold, I saw a YouTube video on how to take the protective film off from under the filter (the same suggestions you'll find in most of the pictures posted in the reviews here). Once I took that off, the suction was vastly improved! I took that thing everywhere! My friends and family would make fun of me because it was like my security blanket. Then a month ago, it conked out on me and so I was on the hunt for a new one. I work from home during these COVID-19 days so I don't wear makeup but it does save me from rubbing my nose raw with tissue so I needed a replacement stat! While I loved the relief this nasal aspirator would bring to my nose and makeup, I didn't care for the design. You have to make sure to rinse it out well and then make sure all the parts are completely dry. I was a bit lazy about cleaning it out until it got to the maximum line (gross, I know, but it was my snot and it was always clear lol) so unbeknownst to me, when I'd stuff it in my bag the chamber contents leaked and got into the battery cavity. Likely the reason why it stopped working. WalMart never had it in stock when I checked. So I came searching for a new style here. I tried 3 other nasal aspirators from Amazon. They were highly rated here with a more compact design. 2 of them were the types with collection chambers on top of the unit. The 3rd one was similar to this one but while this one is upright, that one was a horizontal design. The problem with all of these were that 1) the suction for all 3 was not nearly as good as this one and 2) the snot would leak into the main units of the first 2 because the seals were inadequate. The snot would just leak into the main housing unit that held the electrical components. I could see this becoming a major problem similar to what made my first one conk out. So I returned them all and re-bought this one. Received it, took out the protective covering from the filter and OMG the suction is even better than my first one! I wish I just bought this one again from the get-go. This is, by far, the best electric nasal aspirator in the market. This new one seems louder than my first but it makes up for it in a more powerful suction. This may be an issue for babies but the music can help drown that out and the suction is effective enough to make it a quick session. I strongly suggest you clean and let dry completely after each use to prolong the life of this unit. ... show more

  • A little something to clear up your doubts...
I'd say it's definitely a must-have... and why wouldn't it? you don't have to be squeezing every 2 seconds to activate the suction; instead, you just press a little button and you get proper and continuous suction from this device. Keep in mind that, if your child's nose is not "runny", the nasal aspirator might not get that much out. You need to loosen up hardened mucous first. How?? Use a bit of saline and spray it in each nostril. This will surely help. After mucous is loose, you can more easily get them out using the aspirator. I've read some other reviews and there's a little tip I could offer: - For those parents whose children are very very congested, be prepared to get the following: sterilized sea water (you can get it at your local pharmacy), saline solution, a syringe holding up to 10cc and the nasal aspirator. Use the sea water to "open up" your child's nasal passageways by pouring a few drops inside each nostril (if you can get a nasal-spray bottle, all the better). Give it a few minutes to loosen up the mucous. THIS NEXT PART IS REALLY UNPLEASANT FOR PARENTS BUT I GUARANTEE IT WORKS EVERY TIME: fill the syringe with at least 5cc of saline solution and, holding the nasal aspirator ready to extract the mucous from within one nostril, "flush" your child's nasal passageways with the saline through the other nostril (for better results, tilt your child's head leaving the "open" nostril higher). The flushing must be done in a gentle manner but without taking too long - you should empty the syringe within 2 seconds at the most and generate suction with the aspirator through the other nostril in order to ensure proper washing of the nasal passageways. The procedure I just described above should be done through each nostril...with at least 5cc saline every time... this to ensure proper extraction of all mucous inside the little fella's nose and allowing for air to flow without problems. Doctor's say you can do this as many times a day as it is necessary but be careful. Just think of shoving a spoonful of salt water in your nose every so many hours...not pleasant, right?? leaving like a burning sensation, right?? well, that's exactly what your child will feel if you do this too often... As a final piece of advice, try to get any nasal spray that contains Mometasone Furoate (e.g. Nasonex) for this will help the swelling go down and ease the sensation of your nose having been flushed. Use it twice a day for a 7-day period in order to obtain proper results. Hope you find this helpful...I know it has helped me and my 5-month-old very very much!! Cheers! ... show more

  • Even if you don't have kids, you could use this on an adult. Very useful. BUY IT
I have not tested this on my baby yet, but I did test it on myself. I had a slightly stuffy nose and decided to give it a go. It sucked out more than I expected. it is very powerful, so I would be very careful of getting the suction tip against baby nostril skin. In combination with a tissue, this worked very well. At first I didn't think I got much, but then I sucked a little water to clear it, and a huge chunk of goop came out. Easy to clean Batteries are easy to replace, but at the same time the cover doesn't just fall off The music is not bad, but it doesn't have an off. You have to let it play to the end. If you have a stuffy nose, or if you have kids with noses, this is very useful. Update 11-27-15: I still love this thing. My baby is now 11 months old, and I have used it on her several times. It worked the best when she was less than 6 months, because she didn't fight it off. She liked it because she would smile and turn towards it. She is currently at a stage where she wont tolerate it while awake, she turns away and cries. It doesn't hurt her or anything, she is just at that age. I imagine once she gets a little bit older and can understand it helps her feel better it will start being super-effective again. Right now it is ok, but I can only use it while she is asleep for quick sucks of a runny nose. However, I have used it lots. LOVE this thing. I had a bad sinus infection and I sat in bed for like an hour, cruising the internet and sucking gunk out of my head. I took breaks to let the snot settle and to empty the chamber. I went from not being able to sleep through the night and having to sleep in a chair, to being able to sleep just fine. Love this thing. Where has it been all my life!? ... show more
