  • Every Patriot Should Own NVG
Did a few modifications and upgrades to make it more rugged and efficient, made it vertical instead of horizontal for walking can see the ground better and better for doing room sweeps for home defense, cap with blue painters tape hides the IR light signature(will put this on the HML-IR as well), replaced the lens for a wider FOV. As for the internal mods, I soldered in an SMAJ5.0CA and two 107J 100uF Tantalum capacitors to increase performance (Smoother operation in high-drain modes and fewer glitches. Battery life may extend slightly (~10–25%) in demanding scenarios.) and adds an extra layer of ESD protection (battery swaps, or IR laser noise, EMP or solar flare(if insulated indoors, not while outdoors, I keep NVG, the batteries and 18650 USB Solar Charger in a tablet sized faraday bag when not in use). And I’m considering wrapping in copper tape and then repainting with krylon camo paint for further transient reduction and IRR subduing when in use. Will probably paint it brown as that color is good year round in my region. Weight is good, needs a battery weight pack on back of helmet, fits relatively perfectly(it helps if you have a ratcheting helmet securing system to help dial in the correct position), and I don’t use the zoom as this is intended for CQB home defense. A bit slow and takes getting used to, you need to train with it in your environment to understand the pros and cons effectively and plan for that. When turning head quickly it will be a blur for a moment as it is digital not analog. Pairs well with IR lasers and lights, there can be some noise feedback due to being LEDs but it’s negligible. Having a secondary IR flashlight can increase the range and light up more intense and crystal clear FOV and also save NVG battery life. My setup is generally always geared towards CBRN and having the technological edge, even if the grid goes down I’ll still be able to own the night. I have also upgraded my 40mm PAPR as well. Welding cartridges are really all you need to protect respiratory against iodine dust and they are cheap in bulk, can use 40mm to 3M adapter. Sealing/coating and then Painting your armor carriers can help seal it against iodine dust collection for easier DECON in SHTF. ... show more

  • Great potential
I have a lot to say about this piece of equipment.. let's start by saying IT'S NOT A PVS14... now that we got that out of the way.. I will say this. ..It is really close.. I don't care about other people's opinions on this... I am glad I got it. Pros. Aluminum construction, well made, not that heavy. Will not have some of the short comings of a real PVS14... like the possibility of damaging a tube intensifier with prolong exposure to the sun specially direct sun light. ." Due to oparator error "...This unit will work day or night. 2 modes to view ...screen green and black and white. This device performs to the level of a Gen I ...almost II pvs14. The IR ILLUMINATOR is visible in level 2 and up setting... on one is very hard to see. Like the pvs14 it will work fine under not so perfect conditions..just like the pvs14 .. it appears that the chip intensifier on this NVG10 is really good... in other words no need to use the IR ILLUMINATOR on a dark but clear night. It will offer almost the same performance. .. with some limitations but it does work.. pvs14 have a very nice round window to look.. this unit is a square one.... my TV is square ⬛️ 😒..This NVG10 has a 1x field of view.. you can magnify to 2x. Cons.. the control arm sucks 😫. But it will have to do for now. This unit is digital. Pvs14 is analog far better light transmission. Pvs14 uses 1AA battery (will last for months). This unit being digital 4-5 HRS on a 18650... so carry extras. Owning a pvs14 does not make you an expert or somehow you can learn to use it in ten minutes. ...This is true of the THIS unit as well .. everything takes practice.. a real PVS14 will cost anywhere from $1,700 for a really bit up one to 4,000 for a good quality one..MVG10 is from $270-360 new... do I wish I could own a real PVS14.. HELLS YES!! ... can I afford one ...HELLS NO!!. will this unit help you to train ...yes!!. Will it do the job for now YES!!... Would I buy another ..YES!!.. all rules apply to to both units .. you are not invisible and you need to train.. and train some more.. if I had 50 guys with only 3 owning real pvs14 .. that makes 47 man down during and work or patrol at night.. you equipped the rest with this and you will improve capabilities emmidiately.. this will be a force multiplier during blackouts or no power.. they will not see you in the dark... unless they have one too. ... show more

  • Good starter Nightvision
For the prize its worth it, the camera quality is good, i was missing 2 small screws for the mount but still for the price compared to other i dont care. It has a compass on the camera dash and you can zoom in and out. Please remember you pay what you get for though.
