  • AWESOME PRODUCT! - Installation Notes AWESOME PRODUCT! - Installation Notes
Size: 32.8ft
We recently bought Govee’s LED strip lights with the diffuser channel (the frosted plastic cover inside the plastic rail), and it’s AWESOME!!!!. We’ve had great experiences with Govee products in the past, and this felt like the best option on the market. Huge kudos to Govee’s engineers for how well thought out this system is, especially the way the LED strips clip cleanly into the rail and providing precut 45 degree rail pieces (and corners) for the corners (details below). We installed the lights along the ceiling line of a room. To fit our space, we purchased both the 16’ and 32’ kits. In hindsight, we were very glad we chose the longer 16’ option instead of the 9’. Having extra pieces gave us peace of mind in case something broke or needed reworking during installation. Differences between the 16’ and 32’ kits: They use the same technology, but differ in length and model number. The 16’ kit currently has access (through the app) to Govee’s “Share Spaces” feature, which lets you browse and “User community” created lighting setups. We also noticed the 16’ kit came with longer adhesive strips, which in our opinion were better (see attached photo). A few helpful installation notes: • Pick a corner near power and start there. Spend a little time planning the layout. • The YouTube channel “ChrisMaherDIY” was incredibly helpful for seeing the unboxing and basic installation before starting. • Take time to familiarize yourself with everything in the box before you begin. The video above helps identify what each piece is. • For corners, Govee includes 8 pre-cut 45° rails per box for corners (4 inner and 4 outer bends). • Each kit (both 16’ and 32’) includes 8 corner attachments for the frosted plastic covers. (4 inner and 4 outer bends). • Practice sliding the frosted cover into the rail before you’re up on a ladder. It’s not hard, but it’s annoying to figure out overhead. • While there’s no physical way to connect the 16’ and 32’ kits together, if you create a “room” in the app and add both sets, they sync automatically. This was a pleasant surprise. • If you’re installing right along the ceiling line and have textured or popcorn ceilings, leave a tiny gap between the ceiling and the rail. This mainly affects the start and end caps. • Cutting pieces: Regular scissors and wire cutters don’t work. Ideally, use a miter saw or a Dremel. If you don’t have those (I didn’t), straight tin snips (yellow handle) or “Fiskars Pro PowerArc Shop Shears” work. I used tin snips for both the rails and frosted plastic. The cuts lines weren’t perfect, but they worked. In hindsight, the Fiskars shears would’ve given cleaner, straighter cuts. • Adhesion: In some spots, the rails didn’t stick well, even after cleaning the wall. The spare pieces with longer adhesive helped, but a few sections needed extra support. “Scotch Removable Clear Double-Sided Mounting Squares” worked well with a little trimming of the tape. • If the rails aren’t perfectly straight, don’t stress. Once the frosted cover is installed, it hides and straightens minor imperfections, especially when spanning two rail pieces. • When cutting the frosted covers, measure twice and cut once. I ended up with a few tiny gaps that were barely noticeable (mostly because I knew where to look). This was due to using tin snips and not getting perfectly straight cuts. • This install is definitely easier with two people. One person can hold, align, or slide pieces while the other measures, cuts, or presses the rails in place. It saves time and frustration, especially around corners. • If you have furniture that’s hard to move and you’re leaning awkwardly to deal with corners: instead of trying to custom-cut the frosted plastic right there, slide the full-length cover pieces toward the corner. That way, the section that needs the custom cut ends up in front of a more accessible part of the wall, making measuring and cutting much easier. • The power button/control module is about 18” from the end of the LED strip. To keep the cable looking clean against the wall (or in a corner, closer to a power outlet in our case), we used a simple cord hider, which made a big visual difference. Overall, this is an AWESOME product with thoughtful design. Installation takes some patience (took us about 3-4 hours to do a 12’x10’ room), but the end result is absolutely worth it. Hopefully these tips help make your install smoother than ours. ... show more

  • Great lights. Wish it could accommodate longer than 32.8 feet.
Size: 32.8ft
I have been using Govee LED devices for quite some time now and really appreciate being able to control of them through a single app. What I really like about this product is that the LED strip is encased in the plastic housing that is aesthetically pleasing when off and diffuses the light when on so that it looks like a single continuous light, rather than individual LEDs on the wall. Installation is relatively simple and these lights work just like other Govee lights. They are bright and, as I just mentioned, when encased in the plastic housing, the lights look like a single continuous light along the entire length of the device. The only criticism I have is that you are limited to 32.8 feet. Essentially, two 16.4 foot rolls of lights connect together with no option to add additional rolls. In larger rooms, that means having to purchase additional units that all require their own power outlets and function independently, which takes away from the unique features of the lights.) I also found that the adhesive on the back of the plastic channels is pretty good, but they do not run the full length of the channels and I have had a couple instances where, over time, they have fallen off the wall on their own. One random thing I learned from watching a video online, by the way, is that the clips install with the flat side toward the strip. Once I learned that, installation of the light strips into the plastic channel was a lot easier. ... show more

  • Amazing! Amazing!
Size: 32.8ft
These Govee RGBIC LED strip lights are a great addition to any room. The colors are bright and vibrant, and the included covers give a smooth, modern look without visible LED dots. Setup was easy, and the Govee Home app makes controlling colors, effects, and schedules simple. I especially love the multi-color modes and how they sync to music. The adhesive could be stronger on some surfaces, so plan to use extra tape or clips if needed. Overall, great value for the length and features — perfect for mood lighting behind TVs, desks, or in bedrooms! ... show more

  • Nice lights that needs corners for under mounting shelves and more thought on light leakage Nice lights that needs corners for under mounting shelves and more thought on light leakage
Size: 9.8ft
So this is advertised as being good for under shelves and they say it comes with corners to go around bends which it sort of does but only when they are mounted with the diffuser facing forward. This means that if you want to mount under a corner shelf or counter like I did and want to turn that bend you either need to mount on the face of the shelf or counter or be really handy with a Dremel tool to cut the angles you need yourself. Govee doesn’t even list the smaller versions of this set on their website and they don’t have extra pieces you can buy so you’re stuck with what’s in the box or hacking pieces apart to get the angle you need. The set only comes with one short piece so if you have a very specific length you will Almost certainly need to cut a piece or two to make it fit. Fairly easy with a hacksaw or Dremel and you can hide the cut under the end caps so that’s not a big deal. Cutting angles to do and under shelf corner would be more difficult since it would be much harder to get the perfect cut needed for a good fit. I was fortunate that I was able to just mount on the shelf face and it looks good but still subtracting that star. Since the diffusers just butt together flat with no connection or bevel to hide the seam, you get bright spots at the seams, especially with the white light. I’m guessing that a carefully applied dab of plastic cement along the edge would eliminate that but it would be and extra step and also make it more of a problem to disassemble. Some kind of seal on the end caps would have also been nice since light leaks from the rear edges. A bit of foam tape would fix that but honestly, it should already be in the box. On the good side, the mounting tape issue people have complained about in the past seems to be addressed. It’s good VHB tape and there seems to be sufficient tape for purpose and they put a little pull tab on each piece to make it easy to remove the backing which was a nice touch. The default brightness setting is perfect for task lighting out of the box and the diffuser makes a perfect glow with no LED hot spots. Despite the issues, I do like them and the only real competitor is double the price so it’s kind of a no brainer to go with these if you can get around the issues. ... show more

  • Almost Perfect
Size: 16.4ft
I ordered the light "Bar" (with the track/covers), as well as the light strip these guys sell, wanting to compare the difference. I'm installing in an RV, so it's a bit more challenging. As for this light bar product, it was very nicely packaged, probably too nice. The installation instructions were pretty clear and easy to follow, EXCEPT, the retaining clips. The photo of the clip install is a bit unclear to me. A profile photo of that clip might help, as to how it's installed in the track. I'd suggestion just playing with a piece in your hand until you totally get how the clip fits in the track. It fits as it should, but super tight, and took a bit more force to get in place, and is the only possible weak point, but still a super minor thing. I will be buying more of these at some point. They are GREAT if you stay in a simple straight line, or on one plane, as in around a ceiling, or as accent lighting. Make sure your cuts are straight, as there are a lot of leds in this and it will peak out of any cover if not matched up tight. I'd prefer each track be a bit longer, maybe even a meter, plus a couple shorter. A dremel cutoff wheel does the trick to easily cut. To me, the 'bar' is great if directly in your sights, like around a ceiling, and their regular sticky light strips, would def be better out of sight, like under cabinet, but still not bad even within view. And their APP is super nice, and will do anything I can imagine. Is fairly intuitive. Only knock, so much info is packed on the screen, it's hard to scroll without touching an option and changing things on accident. Maybe space out the selectable items a bit more, leave room for a finger to scroll. But, overall all, great job. Worked very well with Alexa, easy integration. The light "bar" item is a bit more pricey, but it does look/feel a bit premium, but at $50 it'd be a very good value. ... show more

  • This Govee wall mot worked perfectly as a tv backlight on my 98"! This Govee wall mot worked perfectly as a tv backlight on my 98"!
Size: 32.8ft
So I bought this to be used as a tv backlight. Why? Because I couldn't find a govee backlight for 98" tv. Secondly I don't like the systems that use a camera, I don't like seeing a camera hanging in front of my tv picture. Anyhow, I did have to improvise as this is meant for walls, so I didn't have a corner covers to make a rectangle for the tv. I ended up cutting flat pieces and taping them to corners to cover any gaps so no light escaped without the diffuser cover. Another reason I chose this kit was the diffuser cover, when normal Tv backlight LEDs are close to the wall, you get hotspots or rainbow effects from using white color as it is made by using several soften colored LEDs. This worked perfectly because my tv was close to wall at only 3-4" away. No hot spots, no rainbow effects. Rainbow effects could be seen on corners j til I put diffuser pieces I cut and taped them on so diffuser cover works as advertised! I get perfect light and no hot spots or rainbow effects, and can control all portions of the 24 ft of strip I have behind tv. ... show more

  • One of the best diffuser LED systems out there - just plan your install One of the best diffuser LED systems out there - just plan your install
Size: 16.4ft
I’ve probably purchased this kit somewhere between 7 and 10 times over the past couple of years for different lighting projects around my home. The main thing that keeps bringing me back to it is the diffuser channel. I absolutely cannot stand seeing individual LED dots in strip lighting - it always looks cheap to me. This system solves that problem really well. Once installed, the diffuser softens the light and creates a smooth, continuous glow instead of a row of visible LEDs. I’ve used these in a bunch of places including wall panel accents, above cabinets, under TV stands, and even floor-to-ceiling vertical wall lighting where I wanted a really clean, architectural glow. This is not exactly plug-and-play though. There’s a little bit of work involved to get it set up properly. First you install the channel pieces using the adhesive backing, then you lay the LED strip into the track and secure it with the small white clips before snapping the diffuser cover on top. It’s a little tedious, but once it’s done it looks fantastic. The Govee app side is the easy part as always - setup is quick and the RGBIC segmented lighting features are great. You can control different sections of the strip independently, which adds a lot of flexibility for different lighting effects. One thing I’ve learned after installing this several times is that planning the layout ahead of time is really important. The diffuser channels come in certain segment lengths, but the LED strip itself can only be cut at specific points. Those two things don’t always line up perfectly. Because of that, I usually lay out the LED strip first before committing to the installation and work backwards from where I want the lighting to end. For example, if I’m running a strip vertically up a wall panel, I want the LEDs to reach the top cleanly rather than ending a few inches short. Removing the little clips to adjust things after the fact is pretty annoying, so thinking through the layout beforehand saves a lot of frustration. I’ve also noticed that the LED color quality seems a little different compared to when I first started buying these a couple of years ago. The lights still look good, but certain colors like yellow or deeper reds don’t feel quite as saturated as I remember from earlier versions. Because installation takes a bit of effort, it might be worth plugging the strip in and testing the colors first before fully installing everything just to make sure you’re happy with it. A couple small tips that might help others: the diffuser pieces have a protective clear film on them that’s easy to miss. I definitely have at least one install where I forgot to remove it because I didn’t realize it was there at first. Also be mindful of where the power connection will land before you start installing, because that determines the direction you’ll be running the strip. Overall, even with those small quirks, there really isn’t another product that does exactly what this does as well as it does. The flexibility of the system combined with the clean diffuser effect makes it perfect for accent lighting where you want a professional look instead of exposed LEDs. Every installation I’ve done with it has stayed secure and held up well over time. ... show more

  • Not the Right Fit for My Space – Bulky and Tricky to Install but still a great product
Size: 9.8ft
I wanted these Govee RGBIC LED Strip Lights to work out since I already had the 9.8ft version with covers. The packaging was neat and setup seemed easy at first, and the light diffusion was actually pretty good—soft and even without too many hotspots. But in practice, they just didn’t fit well in my room. The channels are bulky, and getting them aligned right was more of a hassle than I expected. They take up more space than I thought, and since my setup has tight corners and specific placements, it just wasn’t flexible enough. I ended up switching to the Govee COB lights instead, which were pricier but way better for my needs. Those were slimmer, easier to position, and gave a cleaner look overall. With these RGBIC strips, the size of the channels kind of worked against them—even though they’re made to diffuse light well, the bulkiness made them feel clunky, especially when I was trying to stick to clean, minimal lines. If I had to do it again, I’d probably just get a regular LED strip and pair it with third-party diffuser channels that offer more length options and easier installation for custom spaces. So while the idea and lighting quality are solid, the design just didn’t match my real-world setup. They might work great for someone with straighter surfaces or less complicated layouts, but for tighter or more detailed installations, I’d say think twice. For me, the trade-off between diffusion quality and physical bulk wasn’t worth it even though these are a solid choice in certain applications. I am a big Govee fan and their products. ... show more
