    • Very good and well-priced alternative to other systems
OVERALL I have had this installed for a couple weeks now on the TV in my living room and have enjoyed the atmosphere it's added to my general home theatre experience. I mainly got it for use with games and it hasn't really disappointed there, it's very cool to see the ambient light from games and movies bleed off the edges of the screen. It's both very noticeable, but also...it isn't? Which is a compliment. It blends so seamlessly with the viewing experience that it quickly becomes an extension of whatever you're watching. ADVICE To address those who got it specifically to sync it up with what's on your screen, saying the color reproduction isn't faithful or that it's 'not working as well as they thought it would': I can guarantee those people didn't calibrate the device, or properly set it up through the app. They also probably have brightness set all the way up at 100 instead of somewhere down at 60, which gives it room to change in intensity. Once I did these things the difference was night and day, and the color reproduction turned out to be 95% accurate. Make sure you set it up right and follow ALL the instructions if you get it, otherwise you will probably be amongst these disappointed people! SETUP This thing comes with two lightbars that you can stick to the back of your TV with the included mounts/adhesive pads. It took maybe ten minutes to set up total, and another 20 to set up the app and get it hooked up to the wifi. Everything else was pretty quick. The app is not flawless but it works and didn't have any issues when I was navigating it, and you can use it to customize the lights to your hearts' content. Overall I don't have much to criticize as nothing in the setup process 'broke'. From the moment I got it out of the box to the moment I had it working, I didn't have any notable issues/hiccups to bring up. You can also set the light bars in the mounts and place them to either side of your TV, but this isn't nearly as immersive. I tried it out at first but quickly decided I didn't like it, and if you are using this for immersive lighting for your games/movies it will look weird unless you mount them on the back of your TV. THERE IS A CAMERA This part does weird me out a bit, even if it is necessary for the device to function. This thing comes with a camera you have to hook up and set on the top of your TV. I thought I would be annoyed by it, but it's out of the way and doesn't intrude on the viewing experience. I just cover it with a little bag when I'm not using it and it cures any paranoia I might have. There's no mic in it so it doesn't pick up any audio or anything like that. Still, if you are one of those people who doesn't want cameras in their home, and doesn't necessarily trust that they're not capturing data or anything, it's worth noting. BOTTOM LINE If you want the ambilight experience but are priced out of it, this thing is on sale, and you don't mind the fact that it uses a camera to function, it's a solid recommend.     • Worked great for 12 months, on month 13 one of the lights began to flicker even when off.
I was a big fan of Govee until recent. I have six different products from the company. If you would have asked me a year ago, I would have given this product 4 stars. However, a couple weeks ago one of the lights on this set began to flicker white, even when turned completely off. I called Govee support and ran some tests and reset the system to no avail. After being told to email Govee's replacement team to get a replacement sent, I was emailed back from the team telling me they won't offer a replacement and instead I can get a 10% coupon. No options for replacing the individual light that is broken, instead if I wanted a fix I would have to pay for a whole new system. After much searching online, I found that this is a known problem with these particular Govee light systems and that Govee was replacing them for people but seems to now have stopped. This device wasn't moved at all in the 12 months after installation and so it just started not working on it's own. BC I'm concerned it's a short, I've since not used the lights and they are collecting dust while I hope Govee attempts to resolve the problem. UPDATE: Govee customer service ended up replacing the item for me after all. Happy to update my review back ... show more

    • Excellent customer service and solid products
I use a few Govee products. These lights are bright, rich colors, and the video-sync capability is very quick and responsive. It can do essentially 4 quadrants of the screen, and display them in real time with the lights. For ambiance during a movie or video game (I always use game mode because its quicker, catches fast events like explosions or lightning) they work excellently. I owned a set of these for about a year, when the camera stopped working. I fixed it once, then it stopped again and didn't come back. I contacted customer support, who walked me through verifying the camera or device really was compromised. Once I sent some photos and screen shots of what I did to troubleshoot, really just like a "this is the camera light, this is the hub light, this is the calibration screen, this is the error" kind of thing, customer support apologized for the problem and asked for my address to send a new one. They sent me an entire kit to replace the old kit, free of charge. I got the new kit set up, and working, but the app didn't have all the options for fine control to adjust the lights for accuracy. Everything was too red. I looked everywhere for the options it used to have, but they weren't there. Customer support said, "Go into the app, turn off the lights from there. Wait five seconds. Then, unplug the power from the device. Wait [30 seconds] and then plug back in and turn on via the app. This will trigger an update to the upgraded controls" Sure enough, it worked. Thanks Govee, in a sea of random garbage on Amazon, your company is legit. Oh, and Govee didn't do the slimy thing some sellers on her do, and offer to pay me or give me free stuff if I leave a five star review. They didn't mention a review once in the entire interaction.
