  • Holds GoPro, floats
Work as expected — holds GoPro camera and floats. The bottle opener is a nice bonus.

  • Doubles as "Floaty Backdoor" -- A Good Buy
Even though I have a fairly extensive collection of GoPro mounts, with the recent purchase of the Hero 3+ I realized I don't have any thing for actually holding the mount. As someone who refuses to spend money on useless things (just hold the GoPro in your hands...), I originally shy'd away from this item. The reason I decided to spend $30 on a glorified piece of plastic is because I didn't own a floaty backdoor, and realized that since this is a floating grip, it would double as a grip and as a means of floating my GoPro in the summer months. The grip is very comfortable; the foam isn't too squishy or too firm. As compared to some rubber grips, the foam doesn't provide as much confidence in not launching your GoPro flying when you're waving your arms or something, but it certainly gets the job done. This leads me to the included strap. I love that a strap was included, but with my fairly large hands, it almost doesn't fit around them! Seems crazy to me -- the strap would be useless for anyone with slightly larger hands than mine. As always, be careful with the plastic mounting point. I've accepted the fact that I'm bound to break the mountain point on a GoPro accessory sooner or later - you should too. I haven't had any problems with it, though. Certainly no weaker than any other GoPro accessories. A few small pet peeves are: the orange on the bottom of the grip (for visibility in water, should you lose your camera) is, as you can see, not that big. The floaty backdoor provides better visibility, in my opinion. Yes, the foam grip does hold water, but it's not that thick so it's not like you'll be carrying around a sponge. Just reaching out with your arm is decent for selfies, not as good as the "3-Way" mount or a pole but it get's the job done for under half the price of that. Not enough reach to capture yourself skiing too well, but still, not horrible. That's not what this was designed for. In conclusion: I've pointed out all the flaws I can think of but what I know for sure is that GoPro's "The Handler" does two things perfectly well. It floats any model GoPro (despite the earlier versions being heavier, and I THINK it will float any "backdoor" accessories you might have) and it provides a comfortable, sturdy handle for selfies without risking a finger being over the lens or your hand in the shot if you're just holding the plain camera itself. ... show more

  • Great investment!!! Must buy if you use your GoPro underwater!
I just used this handle for multiple underwater excursions during a 2 week vacation and I am so glad I had it. It made handling the GoPro so easy. When I took photos or videos, I held it by this handle. When I was just swimming, I had it dangling from my wrist by the strap. I didn't even need the float function, because it was always strapped to my wrist, but if it wasn't and I had dropped the camera, it would have floated. Would absolutely purchase this product again. Extra little cherry on top - the package also had a little compact bottle opener in it. ... show more

  • You should also install a red stick-on float on the back of the camera so it floats right side up
I bought this along with a go-pro float back to take on a trip where I would be doing a fair amount of snorkeling. I think the handle itself is built pretty well, it has a nice material on the grip, it absorbs a little water but it is really easy to grip underwater. The small amount of water that the grip material absorbs is trivial, nowhere near enough to change the buoyancy. The handle will need to dry out for a little after use, though. The handle comes with some kind of weird wrench that also doubles as a bottle opener. I guess it's used to tighten the little bolt that mounts the camera to the handle, but I didn't ever need to use it. My one minor complaint about this handle, is that, with with just the camera in the housing and the handle, the camera tends to flip upside down if you just let it float, as the handle is more buoyant than the camera. To remedy this, I also installed the float back that go pro sells. Now the handle is buoyant right side up. ... show more

  • The stick was great..
Just recently took the "Handler" on a snorkeling trip in Hawaii to record sea turtles. The stick was great... it floated as expected and was easy to grip and control, and the orange end makes it easy to see in the water. The adjustable wrist strap was good, as occasionally I let go of the handle to swim and didn't have to worry about it floating away. For people complaining about the stick breaking the plastic on the GoPro case...I'm guessing it's because they over-tightened the thumb screw. It isn't necessary to turn the screw as tight as you can, the GoPro isn't going to fall off the end. Just tighten the screw until the GoPro doesn't swivel on the end of the stick and stop...any kind of plastic will only take so much pressure before it cracks. ... show more

  • Cool, Durable and Neutrally Buoyant (at 40 feet)
I hate buying accessories from the companies that make items because they are overpriced and poor quality - USUALLY... however this thing is a rockstar, it works well, is small but durable and I used it Scuba diving. Felt safe to use and could do a selfie video :) Now here is an interesting thing, its buoyant at surface, but as you should know as you go deeper buoyancy changes, and it is neutral buoyancy at about 35-40 feet, so if you let go down there it wont shoot up to surface but rather just hang there.. pretty cool and you can do a swim around your neutrally buoyant handler. Well done GoPro (again). ... show more

  • Top notch handle grip
The GoPro handler is great for all of your underwater action cam ventures, whether at a pool or the open seas. The foam handle makes it easy and comfortable to grip, and the lanyard will prevent you from dropping or losing your camera. It is not exclusive for water, as you can use it as a regular grip while on land. It floats, so if you do drop your camera (at a pool) it comes up to the surface so you won't have to swim down to retrieve it. Finally, it comes with the screw tool to make sure the thumbscrew is not loose when you mount your action cam, so that is an added bonus. ... show more

  • Great grip for GoPro action cameras.
I am new to the GoPro life but I will say this grip is very well made. The handle is soft and comfortable. I have not used in wet conditions yet but I have no reason to believe it will not perform as advertised. I have however used it and my Hero 7 attaches to it well. Very secure connection. Unit is light weight and has a bright orange base with lanyard for securing to wrist. It’s kind of thick which is nice because my hands are large. Very comfortable to hold. ... show more
