  • Great little camera!
Great camera! Works well for videos on my bike. Best part is easy Bluetooth uploads to app on iPhone. The app smooths the video out great! Love this feature. Camera is very basic. It does generate more heat than other GoPros. It did fog up the underwater case I purchased, that’s why the case comes with pads to absorb condensation. It functions well even with small amounts of moisture inside underwater housing. Don’t plan to use for underwater shoots due to this issue. Video Quality and battery are both good. I use the e-commerce pkg to store the cam in. ... show more

  • Terrible controls, terrible connectivity, lack of standard functions.
Worst product interface ever! What do the buttons do? Sometimes the same thing, sometimes different. Which one is the power button? Who knows? How do you get it to start recording and not stop? How does an industry standard product get away with such a terrible interface? Further, although it has a usb-c port that you can charge the camera with, it doesn't allow you to connect to the camera with either your phone or computer. I've now tried a number of times to connect using bluetooth and the phone says it is connected in the bluetooth menu, but within the control app on the phone, it says it's attempting to connect to the GoPro. As such I can't access any of the videos I tried to take. I can't even review the picture quality as I can't even get the movies off the camera. It's an incredibly simple product, why is the interface so confusing? I mean, turn it on/off, start recording or take a pic... plug it into your computer and get the videos/pics... apparently that is asking too much from GoPro. ... show more

  • Ok as Basic level, but not usable right out of the box
These cameras are for up-close-and-personal video/photography. To that end, it's a very small camera, with a built-in battery, wifi-capable, small but touch-capable high-definition screen in the back. Extremely minimalist, both in the buttons and ports available, as well as the accessories and parts included in the packaging: two buttons for powering up/taking video/photos, a base you can attach with the adhesive on the underside, and an Action Camera adapter that connects the base to this GoPro Hero with a twist-tightening hinge, and naturally a USB-C charger cable. No protective case, no adapter for 1/4" thread, no wall charger: no frills, just the base necessities. I have a competitor's action camera, so I figured unboxing and getting it started would be similar. Boy, I was wrong. On set-up, which wasn't mentioned anywhere on the product page, 1. a phone and a download of the GoPro Quick app is required and/or 2. a "fast" SD card is required, regardless of whether you update by tethering to your phone or visiting their site to download the update, 3. the camera comes in with an unremovable battery that starts off with ~25% charge that was not enough to even start the update. And without the update, and without a "fast" SD card, it simply refuses to even start letting you take photos or videos. I went through the frustration of running through 4 different SD cards to finally find one it accepts. Quite frustrating to not be able to even take a simple photo. And on actually charging/use, though, the camera gets extremely hot, to the extent that I'm quite concerned if it just might explode. At 7% battery use after 5min, active video recording due to non-removable battery is limited to ~75min, if SD card size isn't a limiting factor. I don't quite know if it's from the heat, but button and screen control is frustrating at times, often taking a photo/video instead of the intended power-off. The photo/video quality is decently snappy, with the caveat that things depicted is in a fish-lens view and quite distorted. High details with a resolution of exactly 4000x3000 resulting in 12MP. Video resolution is... at max, I'm getting 3072x2304, in other words 3K and does NOT count as 4K as claimed. I don't know if it's a setting issue, but that is quite the exaggeration of specs if I ever saw one. It does have its strength with a powerful GoPro Quik mobile app support. But that is also its weakness in that it is a near-absolute requirement to even just start using the camera, and at the same time sacrificed a bit of PC connectivity. Navigating to the actual photo instead of mere thumbnail/metadata was a hassle in itself. No webcam connectivity either, from the attempts I've done. In terms of the GoPro brand, this may be the most affordable and easiest to reach for which I suppose I can forgive some of its shortcomings, but personally I would rather go for the Hero13 version for the convenience of a removable battery. Simplified packaging for a no-nonsense, no-frills is fine. But no immediate choice for a SD card inclusion makes this product not user-friendly or usable right out of the box, and most of all, less-than-90min active video recording with non-removable battery tells me you're going to be dependent on an external battery bank. ... show more

  • Great tiny go pro with decent quality videos and photo, but not great
First of I’ll address the ecommerce packaging, since this is specifically advertised as that. I love the packaging, not only does it limit the waste and less materials used, it’s super easy to open, and there’s no plastic at all. No bags or even tape. I love it. And it’s well protected during shipping as well. Now the go pro. This is the budget model, so keep that in mind. It’s not the same as the higher end go pros. If you make money from your videos as a significant part of your income I’d suggest you just update to those. This is very small, it’s my first go pro, but I’m impressed by how small and compact it is. It’s decently heavy, but it feels like it’s built like a tank, so that is something I appreciate. Meaning it has great durability. Of course it’s fully waterproof. No issues there. The software/app is easy to use and figure out. Easy to connect to your phone and update, they do require you to update before you can use it, little annoying for me because I personally like to just play around with it as soon as I open it and then can update later, but oh well. This doesn’t have optical stabilization like the higher go pros, which I was kinda skeptical about. But I’m honestly impressed by the quality of the digital stabilization. Not super smooth in all cases, but actually pretty smooth in most of the videos I’ve done. Photo and video quality. Since this is the budget model I’m not expecting amazing quality, and it’s about what I expected, slightly less than expected though. Especially in low light. If higher quality is your priority, I’d recommend spending the extra money to get a higher model. That said it’s decent and even good looking in good lighting. Decent Dynamic range actually. It’s better than I thought. Colors are decent out of the camera. Noise in low light of course. Photo quality is suitable only for social media posts. My Samsung S24 takes better photos. It’s decent for the average person for sure though. I wouldn’t hesitate to take this for vacation videos and selfie pics of landscapes and myself etc. All in all it’s a good value for the money if you keep in mind the limitations. If you want higher quality videos and photos, I’d buy a used higher end go pro. This one is quite nice though too. I really wish this had a little screen to see yourself though, would be so nice. ... show more
