  • Fabulous phone that appears to do everything really well
T-Mobile didn't offer the Pixel 4XL so I took a chance and bought this unlocked one. I was upgrading from an LG G4 and zero'ed in on the 4XL for both its amazing camera and the extended battery life. I was concerned about the larger size, but frankly it's just a little longer than my old phone, and about the same width, so it fits in my hand and purse nicely. I was also concerned about the upgrade process. Turns out that Android (Google) has made this essentially effortless. Backup your data to the Google Cloud first (just in case) then use a cable to directly connect the phones together. It literally walks you through, step by step. I have all of my data, message history and most critically my contacts across and verified - and without a call to T-Mobile. Even the SIM transferred across (though I had to take it out of its larger frame), and the apps were all pre-installed for me. Totally awesome experience!! The phone is a breeze to use. Intuitive layout and effortless operation. It's a pleasure to use the facial recognition instead of punching in a pin each time to unlock it. Voice-to-text works exceptionally well. I've installed my corporate email too, and have found that I can be productive handling emails with the voice-to-text function. One of the other reasons I purchased it was because I knew that Android (Google) would keep it updated, and so far this has worked like a charm. Updates happen in the background with the occasional re-start (you have to enter your PIN then). And finally the camera is simply amazing! Only down side is that the screen can be hard to see in full sunlight, so you end up taking a best guess on a shot. I'm a professional photographer so my standards for image quality are pretty high, and the camera here seems to do everything really well. The AI processing for NightVision really produces nice outputs - celestial photography is possible with this phone! I'm a little different from the normal mobile user in that I keep a device for a long time - in the case of the last phone, it was about 5 years. Upgrading to the best available lets me stretch the technology curve. I expect I'll keep this one for at least as long - until 5G really becomes a thing. ... show more

  • So far I really like this phone
Like the so-called PURE Google experience with no UI from a provider. Like the sweeping gestures vs. the nav buttons, the face unlock works great under all conditions from bright light to darkest night. It's fast, and has some nice feature, which are most likely part of Android 10 vs the actual phone. Size is perfect for me; however, I do have large hands. Camera is better than my LG G7; however, since I have three consumer professional Nikon DSLRs with professional lenses, I am not expecting the picture to be anything other than "pictures." Great to get some instant photos of the dogs, possibly camping sites but no way the type of photo I would ever have enlarged and printed for my wall; or anyone else's wall. Therefore, a wide-angle was not a requirement. Would like to have a SD card slot; however, I can live with the 128 GB on the device. I do keep thousands of songs on the device for walking, and even for in the truck via bluetooth. First white phone I have had, and like it. It is in an ESR clear case with a LK class screen protector. I'm not hard on my phones, can't remember the last time I have dropped a phone; however, up to 600 is insured via my CC company if I pay my cell phone bill with that particular CC. Hopefully, never have to use it. No note to battery life, since after my early AM five mile walk, I always just place the phone on a wireless charger. My current one is only five watts, so I ordered a faster charger. And I am not a big fan of surfing the web via the phone (unless camping) so battery life so far is ok, but impossible for me to actually say it is great or not. (It appears to be as good as my LG G7 the Pixel is replacing. ... show more

  • Best android phone ever
Google Pixel 4XL is elegant, super fast, powerful , very responsive, pretty decent battery, comes with a bunch of sensors, camera needs no intro, super usable and really cool!! I would say I have barely scratched the surface of possibilities, I would like to share the most impressive of all. Loaded with a number of sensors out which Motion Sensor seems pretty cool and unique, at first I was a little skeptical about its use, now after a week, I feel it is really helping. (Motion Sense + FACE) exponentially increases the ease of usage. This combo comes in handy both for business and for pleasure. Such as on the desk facing the me, letting me use my phone just when I need it vs helps me do some basic but really important stuff without having to unlock, say outdoors, even on cold winter day with all my winter outfit. I certainly miss the fingerprint reader considering how slow app developers are to adopt to face unlock. Wherever face unlock is supported, it rock!! Having tried out a long list of phones including Samsung, One Plus, Apple, Huawei and Essential Ph1, each had its pros & cons, I think I have found Pixel 4 XL to be the best fit. Although pricier, I feel it is worth it!! ... show more

  • Reliable phone with surprising battery life
I use this phone for typical personal and business - but I don't really use social media on it. I call, I text, I use different web browsers. It's my phone directory, calendar and my secondary alarm clock. I listen to streaming music, watch videos, take pictures and scan documents. I have not been disappointed in any one of those tasks. The battery life was great - lasting 8-9 hours of constant use, and up to 3+ days with just calling/texting use. I like the way it feels - weight and heft. I am only giving it 4 stars because of a couple of things. I still miss headphone jacks and user-serviceable batteries. I'm also used to using a phone for more than 2 years, especially when buying a higher end phone. In this case, the battery started causing me trouble after about 22 months of use. The issue was covered by a Google recall, and I was just minorly inconvenienced for about 4 hours by having to travel and wait for the replacement. The problem wasn't battery life - the battery wasn't being detected. Since that recall repair, things haven't gone well. The camera and flashlight were locked out. Back to the repair shop and loose connections were fixed under the shop's 30 day policy. The battery not recognized issue happened again, and this time it bricked the phone. It has taken me a week of back and forth between the repair shop and Google support - but Google has agreed to replace the motherboard (and practically every other part of the phone). Getting refurbished phone, and not having to pay is nice. But being without a phone for over a week while I diagnose it and wait for repairs isn't so nice. It was a wonderful phone for two years. I kept it in a good case, so the cosmetics are still gorgeous. But, I've lost confidence in the device now. If the trade-in deals weren't so limited ($143 from Google against a new Pixel 6, $800 from Verizon - but I have to change my phone plan) I would be exchanging it right away. Instead, I may just buy a cheaper phone so I have something to use when this one dies again. ... show more

  • Hesitant to buy a phone on Amazon. Was not disappointed.
Was worried about ordering a phone off Amazon, I was concerned about the battery life and the SIM activation. Once the SIM worked and the battery far exceeded my expectations for daily use, I gotta say I love my new phone. Had no visible scratches or dings when I got it. Honestly apart from being in the wrong box I could have been told it was brand new and believed it. Face recognition is a new feature for me. It works great as long as the camera can see my face. Even in dim/dark rooms it's worked and I was pretty surprised by that. I'm sad the fingerprint scanner is gone on this model but I knew that when I bought it. ... show more

  • Don't waste your money
I'm not sure if it's just a bad product over all or if I just got a used/refurbished lemon. It's supposed to be water resistant up to 3 feet for 30 minutes with no issues. The corner of my phone was in less than a half inch of water for less than 15 seconds and it needed to be serviced. Now, a few months later, my fully charged phone shut off in the middle of me taking a video. I tried to turn it back on, only to find out that the battery was dead. I started getting an error that the battery can't be read, when I clicked more details it said I need to buy an extended warranty. Problem is, I bought a used phone so there was no warranty to extend. And according to the "extended warranty", this issue won't be covered because the warranty won't cover until after the first 31 days. Google is trying to push me to purchase the warranty or upgrade the phone. The upgrade means I lose my unlimited storage with Google photos and I will have to pay them even more money for storage which I currently get for free. The reason I bought the 4XL is because of the unlimited storage option. I find it very suspicious that now that they are no longer offering free storage on newer phones they are trying to push a "free upgrade" (for an out of warranty phone) to a model that isn't as good and has no free storage. I don't find anything extra special about this phone. It was supposed to be able to take good night photos, granted they are better than my old phone but not even close to some of the iPhone photos I've seen. I've wanted a pixel for a very long time. I saved just to afford the refurbished one and honestly, I'm disappointed. ... show more

  • Pixel 4XL 128 Gigabyte
I am getting a lot better battery life than I thought because of negative reviews. But; the XL model comes through with the 3200 Mwh Battery. Browsing is super fast with the 855 Snapdragon and GPU and 6 Gigs of DDR4. A really sweet combo of power, storage and battery life. Battery seems to leap to life after just 15 minutes of Type C Rapid Charging. Such a slick screen I'd like to say "liquid" like images. And video and the speakers are just wonderful to hear too. The "fablet" is much easier to hold than I thought it would be and there's a lot more magic to come! ... show more

  • Finally went pure android and don't regret it
For years with my phones I have always gone with the idea of "Hardware over software" because of the fact that software can be changed and updated, but hardware cannot. As a result, I stuck mainly with Samsung and oneplus phones (most recently the note 9). This year, I finally took the plunge on the Pixel, because I felt like the hardware was finally good enough to just scrape by (more than 4 gigs of ram is nice, 90hz screen is great, and the camera makes me feel like a professional). Its been almost a month, and I don't regret it at all. The experience is wildly better when there is no bloatware or extra stuff to get through. I didn't have to disable a hardware dedicated button to a function I never used, disable apks, and change all the default apps. If you are one that does not value the software experience, though, I feel like there are a lot of other phones that you should get instead. If you cannot get it on sale like I did, then I do not think what you get is worth the price. But now that I have experienced it, I don't know if I can ever go back to other android phones, save for OnePlus, if their cameras ever catch up. ... show more
