🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Nest Cam has mixed reviews, with some customers praising its ease of installation and clear audio quality, but others experiencing issues with charging and connectivity. The battery life is commendable on less busy areas, lasting 2 1/2 - 3 months on a single charge. It also features a useful alert system when charging is needed. However, many users have reported problems with the camera's charging system and its tendency to disconnect from the network.

Pros

  • 👍 Easy to install
  • 👍 Long battery life
  • 👍 Loud and clear speaker

Cons

  • 👎 Charging issues
  • 👎 Connectivity problems
  • 👎 Non-rotating view

Should I Buy It?

Buyers looking for an easy-to-install security camera and not overly concerned with regular charging might find this product useful. However, potential connectivity problems could be a drawback for some users, particularly those looking for continuous security monitoring.

  • NEST Cam failed two months after warranty was up! POS!!!
Size: 2 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Nest Cam (Outdoor or Indoor, Battery)
Update - After numerous calls and one dedicated employee, I was able to get my problem resolved. It was a painful process but they did right by me and Thank You! ----- I have a NEST cam purchased last Jan 2023. Warranty is expired and the unit just failed March 2024. Googles web support page absolutely sucks. Not able to find a phone number to call for technical support OR find a shop to work on it. Totally disgusted with Google! :( ... show more

  • Impressive
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Nest Cam (Outdoor or Indoor, Battery)
I've had my camera outdoors now for about five months. One of my main concerns was how long the battery holds a charge. Even during this winter where I live, with daytime temperatures mostly in the 30s and nighttime in the teens and 20s, the battery charge lasts for about four months. That means only recharging 3–4 times per year max. Better than I expected! I did find that more motion sensing activations drain the battery faster, so I adjusted my setting to detect only people. No animals /pets. As far as quality goes it's pretty impressive. Very easy to set up and install. Both day and night (infrared night vision) the picture is crystal clear. You easily control everything on the app. ... show more

  • Just What I Wanted
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Nest Cam with Floodlight
I didn't have security camera coverage in part of my back yard. Not that it's a big yard, it's just the way the house is built. I have had a Feit Electric floodlight/camera I bought at Costco for $100 about a year ago. It's OK, but not "smart" because every time a breeze moves a tree branch I get an alert. That makes it almost useless during daylight hours. When I saw the Google unit on sale for $220 I bought one for my patio. Wish I would have bought two at that price because the Google unit is great. The floodlights, camera and sensitivity are just right. The best compliment I can pay is that I will buy a second one if/when it goes on sale again, or I have extra money sometime. ... show more

  • Poor Networking. Limited Range. Limited Video. Unreliable
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Nest Cam (Outdoor or Indoor, Battery)
I've owned the Nest system for years. When it came out I purchased the doorbell camera and two outdoor cameras as well as two thermostats. I was very pleased with the system all the way around. Several years later Google purchased Nest and instituted their own log-in. The problems began there. The Google Log-in drops my connection after a few minutes which prevents me from monitoring the cameras in real-time or being able to respond to someone at my door. Google has never addressed this despite multiple service requests and thousands of complaints. Fast forward several years and I decided to add a couple of cameras and another thermostat. The thermostat and indoor camera installed just fine though you have to use the Google Home app now in order to install and use them. Next I went to add a camera to my front yard. This required a somewhat difficult installation on a ladder. Everything went fine until I mounted the camera and lost the signal. I had connected it to my wifi via the wrong SSID (from a network repeater in another part of the house) by accident. Under the Nest app this would be a 5 second fix. Just open the app, go to the camera, settings, wifi and change the network name. Boom, done. Google will not allow you to do this. Instead, I have to get the ladder back out and take the camera down. Complete a full factory reset on it. Then I can run the install process again, climb the ladder again and remount the camera. This is absurd. Less than 2 weeks later the camera is routinely dropping connection. Nothing in my network has changed. Within another few days the battery is dead. So I got the camera down and charged it overnight. The app confirmed that the battery was fully charges. I placed it back on my mount and it would not connect, at all. Fast forward several days and I have thoroughly tested the extender. It is working perfectly and has range far beyond where the camera is mounted. The camera still will not connect so I performed a factory reset. Everything worked as expected for an hour or so. The camera lost connection after that and I was unable to get it to reconnect despite repeated attempts. The extender is still broadcasting correctly and other devices can connect to it easily. Twelve hours later still no connection and the app wont even try to connect. It thinks the camera is conserving battery power or that the battery is dead. Tha camera "fell asleep" and there is no way to awaken it using the app. You have to remove it from its mount and then return it to the mount. I moved the extender a little further from the router and a little closer to the camera. The extender worked just fine for my phone and laptop. However, I was still unable to get the app to awaken the camera. It was sound asleep. I unmounted the camera and remounted it to wake it up. And this time it saw the extender and connected. It's about 4 feet away and though it does connect, it's very poor and keeps dropping the signal every few seconds. Meanwhile my phone and laptop maintain a strong connection and have fantastic wifi performance. Within 20 minutes the camera had dropped the connection completely and gone back to sleep with no signs of waking or trying to reconnect. Completely dead. Beware Google wifi products. This one sucks. Likes: Reasonable price. Reasonable resolution. Reasonable solution for recording and saving clips as needed. Dislikes: The Google Home App is awful. It's terribly convoluted and difficult to use. The Nest app was logical and well laid out so in comparison, the Home app really disappoints. What's worse is that in several years Google has not updated the app to correct the shortcomings. The mounting process is really, really poorly designed. You have to screw a baseplate to the wall. Then you have to mount another mount to it using a recessed bayonet mounting system. It's hard to connect them and there's no way to get a good grip on the second mount in order to twist-lock the mount in place. Connection is extremely unreliable. Battery life is short. All in all, very disappointing for something you need to rely on for your safety. ... show more

  • Buyer Beware - this is NOT two complete camera setups!
Size: 2 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Nest Cam (Outdoor or Indoor, Battery)
I should have read the description more carefully. I figured that, since the sale price for this pair of cameras was exactly twice the sale price of the individual cameras, it was just a convenience to get them both in one box. BIG MISTAKE: they "cheaped out" and only included ONE charging cable and ONE charging wall module for the two cameras in this two-pack. Since I use these as wired cameras, I had to go and separately order a new cable (and will probably have to order another wall module as well). As for the camera itself: The google cameras have a nice magnetic mount and function ok, but I find them way too bulky. The old Drop Cams (which became Nest products which, in turn, got bought out by Google) were really nice, slim, elegant. It kills me (and disappoints many customers on the interwebs) that Google walked away from that elegant design. AND, it really miffs me that they "bricked" them all (there is apparently no way to make any use whatsoever of the old drop-cam style cameras after April 2024). While I'm on the subject, I wish Google would get busy and bring their Google Home app (and home-dot-google-dot-com website) up to par with the old nest offerings. They keep promising to update this stuff, but it just continues to be way less functional and way more awkward than the soon-to-be-sunsetted nest software. ... show more

  • Much better than Blink
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Style: Nest Cam (Outdoor or Indoor, Battery)
I bought this camera and the nest doorbell because I was getting frustrated with my blink cameras constantly dying. I couldn't be happier after making the switch. The picture quality of the nest cameras are much better. There is almost no delay where blink cameras were at least 10 seconds. Also blink cameras took AA batteries that would die frequently. I bought this nest recharable wireless camera 2 months and I am not just needing to recharge it for the first time. Overall I am much happier with nest cameras over Blink. ... show more
