I love me some cold brew, but my love for it starting to burn hole in my pocket! I decided that I would make my own cold brew to save money, and I’m so glad I did. It was really easy to make once I figured it out, and in my opinion, tastes better too. The cold brew maker is made out of borosilicate glass that is frosted which makes the bottle look pretty cool and stylish. There are a lot of parts and pieces to this maker. I wasn’t quite sure what to do with it all as the instructions that came with it was confusing and could definitely use some clarification. I went online to look for more instruction and found a very helpful video that shows exactly how to use it. I also saw a photo which instructed me to use 30 grams of ground coffee to 550ml of water. Fill bottle with water then insert filter and secure lid. Shake. Brew in refrigerator for 8 to 12 hours. When you are ready to drink your cold brew, the upper cover rotates clockwise to open, pour, and serve with your favorite flavorings and milk of choice. I used some leftover Starbucks French roast that I had for the first batch, and it was smooth and smoky, but not overwhelmingly, with hints of chocolatey notes. For the second batch, I used some Pike Place Roast, and that was smooth and chocolatey as well. I’m no coffee connoisseur and don’t know if I’m even describing the notes right, but it was quite enjoyable. I will try making it again with either Sumatra or Komodo, which is also supposed to be tasty, for cold brew. Clean up was super fast and easy. I saved my used coffee grounds for the garden and used a bottle brush to clean out the bottle and filter. The filter did have some discoloration from the brewing, but it has no effect on the flavor and taste. I am curious how tea would turn out in the cold brew maker. That will be the next thing that I’ll try. ... show more

"A fine frenzy." The Gonzone Portable Cold Brew Coffee Maker won't make very much cold brew coffee. 600ml (about 20 oz.) of cold brew coffee is about the most you can get out of this maker. For some people, that's just a bit more than one serving. When I make cold brew coffee, I want to make a couple of servings worth. I also double the amount of coffee grounds I normally use for drip coffee and will add water to the resulting coffee concentrate to get the same coffee to water ratio as drip. Usually, one part water to one part coffee concentrate. My coffee dose when I make drip or pourover coffee is 60 grams of coffee per 1 liter of water, with cold brew, that would be 120 grams of coffee per 1 liter of water. This coffee maker's filter won't hold that much coffee ground. That's over 80 grams in case you are wondering. The filter will hold, at most, 45 grams of coffee grounds. The included instructions said to use 30 grams of coffee and 550ml of water. What that means is you are making cold brew that you don't need to dilute. A coarse grind setting (French Press or Percolate size) is what I use when I grind coffee beans for cold brew. Typical store-bought ground coffee is too fine to work with this filter - unless you want to stand around for an hour dripping water through the filter and waiting for the water level to recede enough to drip in more water. You can put water in the bottle first and then put in the filter, but with the pre-ground coffee, it will take a long time for the water to work its way through the grounds. It's a lot easier to just start with a coarse ground in the first place. For the coarser grounds, I prefer letting it steep for 24 hours instead of overnight. You'll need to experiment a little to find the steep time to suit your taste. Tip: Don't use the included tiny scoop to put the coffee grounds into the filter. It will take a long while. Use a yogurt or paper cup to pour the grounds into the filter instead. ... show more

I really like this but it does have some flaws. It works great for making cold brew coffee and after a day it is ready. I tried it with some beans where brewed hot, the coffee is okay. Brewed cold in this it was really good. There is not a lot of coffee made, but because it is strong the amount being small is okay. Inside it with the filter is where I had the issues. It did not pop open thankfully. However the filter did not connect easily and sometimes falls down into the coffee, if not set right. It has a number of parts and it wasn't exactly clear how to use it at first. Now that I figured it out though it is working great. ... show more

    • Works well, but messy cleanup
First of all, there was a broken plastic piece on this one as soon as I took it out of the box. Fortunately it doesn't impact it's use, so I can work around that. The size is right to fill up my travel mug with cold brew. The plastic inner sleeve isn't that sturdy, and when it's time to dump out the coffee grounds things can get a bit messy. It's very easy to use - just put coffee grounds inside the sleeve, add water and stick it in the refrigerator overnight. Overall, it works well, and the coffee tastes great, but there's some room for improvement. ... show more
