there are 12 dino eggs in this kit so each kid can work on their own. Whats great about this is that it also comes with 12 tools so you don't have to worry about any kid not being able to work on their egg. This is super fun and cute for kids, but is also very messy. This stuff is like chalk dust and will get everywhere. My recommendation is that you open these inside some kind of plastic bin, much like a sensory bin. These are easy enough to use that kids don't necessarily need a parents help, so it's a good independent activity. The dinosaurs inside are cute but very cartoon-like. I had the kids soak these eggs in water for about 5-minutes. The 'digging' lead to two different dinosaurs (one per egg) and a chalky mess. (I would recommend you provide a large tray for the carving.) The entire process, from soak to exposed dinosaur, took about 15-minutes. The mess was easily cleaned up with a warm rag. Next time, I may try to give them dry eggs, without soaking, for a longer, better challenge. ... show more

This was a really good activity for my almost 3-year-old toddler. It comes with no instructions but I read the previous reviews and soaked the egg in water for a few minutes. It makes the egg a little softer, but messier. My son does not like getting his hands dirty, so he didn't really want to touch it. He really wanted the dinosaurs though so he did touch it a little bit. For this age group, adult help will likely be necessary. I needed to use a bit of force on the tiny little toothpick thing to get the egg to open. But I'm sure some toddlers would be able to handle this no problem. The little dinosaurs inside are cute and small, so The age recommendations of 3+ are appropriate. This would be really fun for a 4 or 5-year-old dinosaur themed birthday party. ... show more

My son loves dinosaur, and is watching a ton of egg hatching videos so this was a great marriage and super exciting for him! Unfortunately I was doing most of the work as the eggs are a bit hard to get open, and they make a lot of fine dust mess. The product itself is super fun, with the baby dinosaur being cute, rubber figures that eventually come out. The mat and cards with dino info are a great touch, and the packaging is solid... could make a nice gift. Very fun activity, but a one and done for us as it took a lot of effort and tools to get the baby dinosaur out. ... show more

I was so excited to find these. I was a HUGE Dino kid, and when I was little I went to a birthday party and the mom gave me the rest of the goody bag toys, it was a small sand brick with a little excavation kit and inside were a bunch of tiny plastic bones that assembled into mini Dino skeletons. It was one of the coolest things from my entire childhood, I was obsessed, and when I found these I just about flipped out. These are very cool, but not quite that cool šŸ˜‚ they're much better for younger kids, you break it up and get solid plastic Dino and they come with cool cards to learn about them. They're messy which is pretty obvious, but they're a fun outside activity or over a bin or tray. They come with some pretty cool goodies, they'd make an awesome activity for a Dino party, or for a lesson about dinosaurs. They don't take too long to open up but they're a lot of fun! The set could also be put into a treasure chest or gifted. These are awesome toys, and a really cool way to share that awesome game with my toddlers but I'm still gonna keep looking for the original ones for when my girls are a bit older ... show more

Both my nephews 5 and 7 love anything to do with dinosaurs. So when this Dino Egg Dig Kit was available. I was thrilled. Comes with 12 dino eggs so both have plenty to break open and keep them engaged. The set comes with cards to tell them about each dinosaurs.
