  • Does not put out claimed power. 7 watts? More like 3.
Size: Nomad 7 Plus
Pros: No-frills construction, good compromise between weight and ruggedness. Cache battery for more reliable charging of sensitive gear. Strong holes for hanging. Cons: Does not fold entirely flat, which makes it a bit more fragile. DOES NOT PUT OUT CLAIMED POWER. The attached picture says it all. This is full sunlight on a clear summer day, at about 4pm local time, with the panel tilted straight at the sun. The panel is putting out HALF of the power it claims to provide. (5.1 volts x 0.62 amps is about 3 watts.) The battery I'm charging in the photo will charge at 2 amps if I plug it into a power bank. Charging an iPhone, or any other device, gives the same result. The highest I've ever seen the panel put out is about 0.75 amps at just under 5 volts, which is exactly half of the advertised power. Call it the "Nomad 3.5" . ... show more

  • I love my Nomad 28 but THE GLUE CAME OFF!
Size: Nomad 28 Plus
First I want to mention how much I love Goal Zero Products and how all their products have been amazing, I live in Puerto Rico and I bought these because of the disastrous Hurricane Maria, we've been without electricity for almost 3 weeks now on top of another week because of Hurricane Irma so almost a month without electricity and probably we'll be without electricity for even longer. I ordered this through amazon and it arrived to a relative in the US and they sent me the package and its worked perfectly, but there is a minor flaw on the Nomad 28 that should be easily fixed, let me explain. I bought a Sherpa 100 with the AC Inverter and a Nomad 28 with the intention of supplying electricity for basic communication devices, Phones, Radio, Fans, Lamps etc. I've only used the Nomad 28 for 10 days and the Glue holding the stand on the back came loose and the thing fell off, I contacted Goal Zero via e-mail and they responded very politely: "Thank you for contacting Goal Zero! We appreciate your support! The Nomad 28 can be in temperatures of 149 °F at this point you would start to see a pretty high efficiency loss." So I don't understand thy the glue came off if the panel is meant to withstand such high temperatures and its waterproof, like I said I live in Puerto Rico and the highest temperature here is between 85F-100F, I glued mine back because I need to use them to be able to even communicate this message but I wonder if this is normal or if I got a defective product. ... show more

  • Small and quick charging....still shocked at how good.
Size: Nomad 7 Plus
I purchased this alternatively to a 14W or 21W version of the competition for one reason only: Efficiency. After doing some research Goal Zero and Suntactics seem to be the only camping panels that clarify what type of cells they use. Which are Microcrystalline Silicone, the highest efficiency cells on the market. So when you see a YouTube video of a 7W Goal Zero panel out performing a 14W competitor, you now know why. Small test of this in morning sunlight. 4 LEDs glowing. My iPhone 6S charged 3% in 5 minutes! An observation....if you walk in front of this panel while charging your phone, it will automatically stop charging, then restart at some point. So ideally, having a small power bank permanently plugged in is the best route to take, then charge off the bank, not the panel. This might just be the coolest thing Ive purchased off amazon. ... show more

  • Great solar panel for the venture 30 and venture 70 battery.
Size: Nomad 14 Plus
Edit: broke after second day of testing. —- Getting ready for a 16 day hiking trip, so tested it today and it was able to charge the venture 30 fully after being in the sun all day. The manual says 5 hours, but it took about double that for a full charge from nearly zero. With plans to help charge friends’ devices as well, the venture 30 might be a little shy. I am now thinking of bringing the venture 70. Might not fully charge but it will maximize whatever energy it can pull from the sun on the chance it pulls in more than a venture 30’s worth on any given day. Compared to the nomad 13 it is a little lighter when the kickstand is removed. And the design is much simpler with only one real cable that i can run through my backpack to the side pocket where the battery will be stored. The nomad 13 also has an extra flap that is unnecessary. Also, the nomad 13 is made of nylon, which soaks up water and adds weight. The nomad 14 has no fabric and is easy to wipe clean. All in all, a big improvement in simplicity over the nomad 13 ... show more

  • Less power and more weight than Suntactics.
Size: Nomad 14 Plus
The media could not be loaded. I compared the Goal Zero 7+, 14+, with the Suntactics S14 and S5. The Suntactics consistently put out more power than the goal zero. Even though the S5 is smaller than the Nomad 7+, it put out more power. I used a DROK Digital Multimeter to do my testing. It was a clear sunny day in Denver around noon. ... show more

  • Very disappointing results
Size: Nomad 14 Plus
Got this unit as part of my preparation for Kenya expedition January 2020, So I have plenty of time to test and get used to the equipment. I've a powerbank that I intended to charge during the hikes while the panel is hanging from the backpack. So as part of my tests I left the panel out in my balcony at full sun in mid day and had ZERO charge - the "smart brain" 4 blue LED flash for a second and thats it - it stops... No matter which appliance is connected - whether my cellphone or a powerbank. It might be a defective unit or not... no clue - I sent it back. I live in Israel - we have plenty of sun here and the product failed completely. ... show more
