  • Needs a bigger water filter and water heater, it’s OK for the money.
Size: 20-gallon
I got the 20 gallon glow fish tank set up. It’s a decent fish tank no leaks or defects. The water filter is a tetra whisper 20 and it runs nice and quiet. The suction line for the filter only goes about halfway down the tank so it needs an extra piece so that it reaches further down. It came with two sets of lights, a little set of blue lights or “Glow fish” lights and some white lights. The little water heater seems to work well holding the water temperature at 78° with an indoor temperature of 70. It is non-adjustable. It came with some glow fish fake plants which I would rate a soft 2 out of 10 for appeal. I mean they just look terribly fake LOL and what did I expect I guess. I bought a few real plants to go in there with I’ll probably take out the fake plants here soon. I bought the black gravel with pink green orange acrylic pebbles in there and the black gravel is super messy and hard to wash, just a heads up. Be super careful mounting the hood to the aquarium. The lid for the Fishtank is rather flimsy and if you put too much force on it it will break. A few things to mention as far as this being a starter kit for first time aquarium owners. If you have a 20 gallon fish tank try to get a filter that’s rated for 30 gallons. You don’t want to max out your filter. Kind of setting people up for failure putting a water filter that is maxed out at 20 gallons in a 20 gallon tank. Fish are messy you need a good filter. Make sure you prime your motor on your filter. It’s real simple just take a cup and fill the reservoir with some water so that your motor doesn’t burn out. If you have the ability to go to a pet shop. You will most likely save money on items rather than buying this kit. Now I tell you that because I am in rural Alaska and the nearest Petco or whatever is 200 miles away. But if you can go get a 20 gallon tank with a lid buy your own water filter, water heater and customize the parts for your fish tank you will get what you need for cheaper than buying this kit. Like I mentioned before you should get a bigger water filter and a adjustable water heater. The fake plants are just that fake and tacky looking. Just like anything if you have somebody else put things together for you it won’t be exactly what you want. I know I will eventually end up buying an upgraded water filter and an adjustable water heater. Make sure you don’t skimp on the Bacteria to help get your nitrogen cycle going. Some thing like tetra safe start will help you get your tank ready faster. It is not an end All fix all solution. You will still need to do water changes and test your water to make sure that the Ammonia and nitrite levels don’t get out of hand. But adding some bacteria will help you get the process rolling. ... show more

  • this is a great tank
Size: 5-gallon crescent kit
This is a wonderful little tank. we decided that we wanted to get a few fish, so we looked into options for a place for them to live. The first idea was a cute little led colored bubbler tank, but they topped out at three gallons, and we wanted the fish to have a bit of room. The normal everyday 10gal tank was out of the question, because we live in a small apartment and barely have room to move around as it is. After a bit of research into tanks we decided to go with this one as it has the nice led lighting, room for a small fish to move around, comes with a filter system, and wasn't really heavy. The only place we have to keep a tank in on top of a folding wire dog kennel that our cute little dog lives in, to much weight and we would not only be out a fish tank, but be shopping for a new kennel. A tank of this size means you have to be careful of which fish you choose to live inside it. Anything that grows to a large size is out of the question, the rule I found out is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. That means if you get fish an inch long you can put five in this tank without overloading it. If you wish to have more fish, you should get a larger tank. So this limited the choices of fish a bit. We ended up going with two of the fish the tank is named for glo-fish (one pink one green), and since it was on sale a little fiddler crab, (everything said we should wait on the crab as it takes awhile for the tank to grow the right kind of bacteria, but he is so cute we got him anyway) then we stopped at a pet store named for fish and picked some tiny neon tetra's and a couple zebra danio's. all the fish lined up nose to tail might be 4 inches(if you pull hard on each one as you measure), so with the crab (that does morning exercise), we are right at the limit for this tank. Little tanks mean more cleaning as there is no space for anything to hide. The fish eat, that means after the food is processed thru the fish it has to go somewhere, which means you have to get that back out of the tank. Plus new fresh gravel tends to cloud the water (something else I just learned), so has to be clean often. all this leads to every other day cleaning for the first month of ownership I am told. I didn't know it was going to be so much work to keep the little tank going, but its really not that hard to clean if you get a gravel cleaner (available at most pet stores for around ten dollars). It takes less time to clean the tank, than it does to pre heat the oven. I know as she was starting to make diner when I got off work and turned the oven on to pre heat, before it was ready for the food to go in the tank was cleaned and ready to roll. This all means that its not much of time consuming task to clean up. The fish seem very happy, they zip back and forth and dart thru all the decorations (not included with the tank but easy to find), and the crab climbs into places that make you wonder how it could possible get there. Its a very relaxing thing to have in the home as I find myself watching the little fish darting around instead of watching the television so much. Plus feeding time is allot of fun as the fish get to be really active trying to get all the food for themselves (they hate to share). For those of us out there without allot of space and with a desire to have little finned creatures zipping around in our homes, I highly recommend this tank. For those out there with more space I would say find something a lot larger and fill it with fun things like little freshwater sharks. ... show more

  • Great buy has few flaws but great quality tank
Size: 20-gallon
Great beginners tank...very easy to set up and maintain. I would always recommend 20 gallon tanks to beginners since more water is generally easy to balance ph and such easier as 10 gallon tanks if not maintained as often can become very toxic since it's only 10 gallons vs 20 gallons. The filter is a little noisy and not a big fan of the design of the filter. The intake tube" tube that draws water up into filter area is to short and should sit closer to the bottom to filter. The design has tube sitting about 6" down and it should be closer to 9" or 10". I've looked for extenders and they don't make them for the Tetra 20 series but for all the series about Tetra 30,40 etc. The tank is solid built and the led lights are positioned at a good angle to fully light the tank at any setting white or blue led. Filters are very cheap on Amazon 3 for maybe 7 dollars. I change my filter every month very cheap to do so and keeps tank amazingly clean. I had some problem with algae but got a few snails withing days problem solved. This also includes a heater that seems to keep the tank at 77.2° F to.77.7°F. Perfect for Beta or Tetras. All in all definitely worth the money still working on extending draw tube. I also like the ability to stop water flow without unplugging filter every time. This makes feeding great so filter isn't clogged with fish food. I shut mine off...feed fish...wait for them to eat all the food and turn switch and water starts cycling again. Great feature however o ring broke in 2 days not switch doesn't work looking for a replacement o ring instead of buying whole piece which is $20.00 so not really using feature anymore but great idea if it worked. ... show more
