  • Not Just For Whiskey!
While whiskey is the key beverage to enjoy out of these fine works of art, I've found that they're also great for port wines and stouts. And I'm sure there are many other types of drink that are great to enjoy from this glass which I haven't tried yet. Don't hesitate to buy two though, you will probably break one. But then you will know where the breaking point is, and are much less likely to break another one. They are fragile, but not especially so for the design. The glass is fine. It IS the perfect thickness/thinness all around. Nice bottom weight, thin top. Well-balanced. I can't stand any type of glass that's too thin OR too thick at the cusp. You might think "why aren't all glasses super thick so that they're more durable? Especially glasses specifically designed for ALCOHOL - a beverage known to cause instability and clumsiness!" So you go and buy thick glasses, which are thick all the way through the cusp... only to realize they seriously change the way the beverage tastes - almost always for the worse. When a glass is too thick at the top - at the cusp - it's uncanny how much it simplifies the beverage into a monotonous flavor and consistency. You do want a thinner glass at the top - but not too thin either, to where it almost cuts into your lips when you drink! The Glencairn hits the perfect balance here. Remarkable glass. I did unfortunately break one, so I will be buying another pair. I recommend buying a set of 4 now that I've tried them and know how good they are, but it was nice to have the option to buy just two so I could see if they were for me before I made the investment in stocking up on 4 total. You will need some kind of thin "wand" to thoroughly clean these with - it is a narrow cusp to fit any scrubbing tool through, and the fine beverages you'll be enjoying from this glass deserve to be poured into a glass that's been cleaned to a like-new level. Above all, it is such an affordable price. One of those rare times when truly unabbreviated high-class elegance is affordable for everyone. That is probably the best part of all of this. I wish I'd bought these years ago. ... show more

  • Great everyday glass!
This glass feels heavy, sturdy, and well-balanced in the hand—the kind of weight you want for sipping whiskey. The design is simple but elegant, with just the right thickness to keep drinks cold without feeling bulky. I’ve used it for bourbon, scotch, and even an old fashioned, and it works perfectly for all of them. The clarity of the glass really shows off the color of the whiskey, and it has that premium feel you’d expect from a high-quality glass. ... show more

  • Work well and get many compliments
These are great glasses for tasting whisky. I've been a wine aficionado for a long time and appreciate how the right glass improves the tasting experience. These do the same for whisky, and at a reasonable price. Why are these better? When tasting, you need both taste and olfaction. Try it sometime: pinch your nose and taste something; it will be off and weak tasting. However, with whisky, there is the risk of getting too much alcohol on the nose, overpowering the whisky taste itself. For me, these glasses strike the right balance. To test them, I did a side-by-side blind taste test of two bourbons (Evan Williams 2002 and 2003 single barrel vintages). I could easily pick out the two years (of which 2002 was substantially better). I use these for bourbons as well as scotch and rye. How do they compare to other options? I find whisky with them to be more enjoyable than with straight sided glasses such as the Riedel glasses (Riedel H2O Double-Old Fashioned Whiskey Glass, Set of 2). I have not tried long-stem nosing glasses (e.g., Schott Zwiesel Tritan Crystal Glass Stemware Nosing/Whiskey Glass, 7.4-Ounce, Set of 6) because they look fragile, but seem like another great option. Compared to the Riedel single malt glasses (Riedel Vinum Single Malt Whiskey Glasses, Set of 2), I think these are just as enjoyable and much less expensive. Are they overrated? Probably. Unless you've been tasting out of tumblers, they are hardly going to be life-changing. I find all the glasses noted above to be adequate. These are just slightly preferable to me for the combination of tasting edge, look, and price. They look good and I get a lot of compliments from discerning folks (like my wife, of course) that they are "fancy". They are more casual and approachable for guests than the Riedel malt glasses, they seem sturdier, and at the price I worry much less about them getting broken. Cheers! ... show more

  • Nice glasses
Nice glasses though you have to be careful with the thin construction. The do just as described in opening the nose and bouquet making fine whiskey a more fun and enjoyable experience

  • Great for Irish Whiskey and Scotch
Love these for Irish whiskey and Scotch served neat. Prefer tumblers for bourbon and cocktails. - The shape really amplifies the nose and gives me the full experience of the drink. - Small size helps me drink responsibly. - Seem durable - Good price for the quality of glass - I used these for myself, but they'd make a great gift for a whiskey lover, and nicely packaged so they feel more expensive than they are ... show more

  • A must-have for any whiskey enthusiast
I recently picked up a set of Glencairn glasses, and I can confidently say they live up to the hype. The shape of the glass really does enhance the nose and flavor of the whiskey. It feels solid in the hand, with just the right weight and balance. The wide bowl and narrow rim concentrate the aroma beautifully, making each sip a fuller experience. ... show more
