I don't know if I just didn't understand but I think I plugged it in correctly and had the fragrance open to use. Smelled pretty nice but eventually irritated my sinuses. My sister had bought me one of those essential oil infusion gadgets but it was too complicated for my brain cell. Got the plug-ins for ease of use.
