  • These wedges really do work!
Item Package Quantity: 16 Size: 5/8 Inch
I used these to break apart a large section of ledge under a structure where blasting was not an option. Using good carbide 5/8" SDS bits made the holes go reasonably quick, ~11" deep. I used a 5lb sledge to drive them in. What I found is that when you are aligned with a cleavage plane, the ledge split beautifully. In other directions, it was very difficult. No problem with the wedges, packaged well, I actually bought two. Excellent value. They do come in various sizes so make sure you pick the correct ones for the job. ... show more

  • This is a great product!
Item Package Quantity: 16 Size: 5/8 Inch
This product is spectacular! I had my doubts. At first, the boulder (yes, a freaking boulder!) started coming off in small pieces. The trick is to leave the wedges for about a minute between strikes. Shazam! The boulder cracked right down the middle. And the feathers and wedges are sturdy as hell, not cheap stuff. I've broken several big rocks with these feathers and wedges. And they have a lot more life left! My only wish is they offered the chance to buy additional O-rings. I had two break. I picked up a couple of 5/8" o-rings from the local auto parts store, but they are not as thick as the rubber retaining rings that come with the feathers and wedges. ... show more

  • Worked Great, May have been shipped the wrong size
Item Package Quantity: 16 Size: 3/4inch
These worked great. The only issue I have is that I ordered 3/4" which are suppose to use a 3/4" hole. With a 3/4" hole, they fell in. The packaging had no information on it so I could not tell if I was shipped the wrong size. I ended up using 1/2' and 5/8" bits which both worked fine. I, like others, tore my O rings and I ordered more at OringsandMore and the specs are: outside diameter - 20mm, Inside diameter - 15mm, ring thickness is 5mm. The exact replacement is "Metric Buna O-rings 15 x 5mm". I would have given 5 stars if it were not for the issue w/ the size. ... show more

  • Amazing tool!
Item Package Quantity: 16 Size: 3/4inch
These little wedges are amazing! I bought both sizes, but when delivered I found no difference in size. I use a 5/8" hole. I use them regularly to split big basalt bolders down to a size that I can fit in my 10"×16" rock crusher. They are holding up exceptionally well. Good steel, well made. I have not broken one yet, however, as others have mentioned, the o-rings do eventually break. I bought these to replace the o-rings: https://a.co/d/ixOchUR. My Basalt does not have a fracture axis. It fractures in odd shapes and angles that can't be predicted. I have found that for smaller boulders 2-3 feet thick, only one line of these is necessary. Place them no more that 3" apart for best results. 4" will work, but you'll have to beat them in harder and end up putting more wear on the wedges. Generally, you just make them snug, then a few more hits until they ring, tightening in sequence right down the line one hit at a time. Make them all ring the same note, and wait a minute or two. Often the boulder will split on its own when I'm not hitting the wedges. For best results, try to drill all holes in the same plane, perpendicular to the rock face (not always possible). For larger boulders, 4-6 feet thick, I drill all the way around, as much as possible. I've split some very big boulders. Depending on the boulder, I'll either split it in half, then use the fresh exposed cut to slice off 8-9" thick pieces, or just split off 8-9" thick slabs. These can be further broken up into manageable sizes with a 20-pound sledge hammer. This is one of those tools, like a hammer, wheelbarrow, and saw, that I can't imagine being without. ... show more
