  • No longer Decent Board - Get and flash to the latest BIOS
UPDATE: This board now has a failing USB chip, and it locks up the desktop on Linux occasionally, when you least expect it. There is a way to block the kernel from trying to use that chip/USB, but I will have to deal with this at another time. Considering the cost of this motherboard, I will not be buying Gigabyte motherboards anymore if I can help it. To be fair, I have had some use out of this brand however for a while. But, it's time to find another brand. All I want (and maybe others?) is for stuff to work as advertised. Once a product does this, I (and others?) will be happy to buy it, even if it costs a bit more. In my experience, you get what you pay for.....sometimes. This boards seems pretty decent. Using Linux. Hardware and performance... AM5 socket, DDR5, support for PCIE 5.0 card and two PCIE 5 nvme SSD drives (sticks) - supported by CPU. Other slots are PCIE 4/3. One slot is shared with onboard SATA port(s). The last 2 ports if I recall correctly. HDMI, DP 1.4 from integrated video from AMD CPU. WiFi 6E/Bluetooth 5.3, included an antenna, Ethernet 2.5 Gbps - Intel i255-V chip. That's the one I got. 2 Mini 3.5" audio jacks, Line out and Mic In, SPDIF. Line out supports headphones 2 ch, front speakers: 4, 5.1, 7.1 channels. Mic In jack supports mic in (duh...lol) and supports rear speakers: 4, 5.1, 7.1 channels. There is front panel header on board for your case connections if you have that. Make sure your case supports front panel supports the board header. Uses a Realtek ALC1220 chip. Lots of USB support - 1.0/2.0 (black ports), 3.2 Gen 1 on board and back of board (the old name was 3.0...blue ports), 3.2 Gen 2 (red ports 10Gbps) with one that has DP 1.4 Alt-Mode (back of motherboard USBC), 3.2 gen 2x2...20Gbps..on header and usbc back of board LED headers for CPU and strips, noise sensor header, voltage sensor header, temp sensors, plus the standard led connections for your LED case..power, reset, etc, fans, pumps... SATA ports, M.2 slots. Slow booting because it does a lot of checking on boot up (from what I can tell). I got board version 1.0 - lots of BIOS updates (DDR5 RAM seems very sensitive to overclocking). Can overclock well with the proper RAM. Get the latest BIOS (thank you AMD for the updates) and flash it to the motherboard for better hardware support and much better overclocking of memory. It's a heavy board and size is E-ATX. Need a case that can support this size. Board does look good, many layers to this board (8 I think). As for durability, I don't know yet as it's a complicated board. However, the last motherboard I bought was a Gigabyte motherboard in 2013 (over 10 years old). It still works (except a USB chip/controller) is failing now. I still use it though because my operating systems that I use still work fine. And the USB seems to work ok - the O.S. tells me about the errors though in the system logs. Will support USB 4.0 with addon card from Gigabyte. Need to see about getting the card. There is a nice case that works well for this Aorus motherboard (Anidees ai-crystal xl pro). Expensive but it supports a lot of motherboards and is very versatile with new and old tech. You can get them from Amazon. Thanks Amazon! The price is too high compared to other motherboards, but I continue to buy Gigabyte motherboards based on my history of them making good boards. If their quality goes down I will find/recommend another motherboard manufacturer. ... show more

  • Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master Motherboard review
It was time to move up to X670E from X570 and wanted a motherboard with some long term potential, and the features I wanted. When this unit went on Sale for about $360.00, it was a no-brainer. As this is "late" in the X670 season, and the new X870 series are just around the corner, this Gigabyte X670E came in version 1.1 and came with the F20 BIOS. In reading the many reviews of this motherboard, I went ahead first thing and changed the battery. The old battery was still good, but I wanted to make sure. Then I loaded the latest BIOS, version F30 as of this writing. (note; changing the battery is not very easy, but not too difficult either. Just take your time and use caution.) Sure, they should have put the battery location in a better spot, no question. The motherboard started up fine, and it took a new copy of Windows 11, and a decent PBO overclock with EXPO timings at 6000 on 64 Gb of RAM. (2 Modules, not 4 Modules). Everything seems to be working, including all the USB ports, SATA ports, etc. There is a USB conflict until you get a driver or two loaded, but a minimal issue. The Gigabyte Motherboard also has a 5 year warranty, which is not the industry norm. The only issue I have with the Gigabyte Motherboards is there implementation of RGB lighting. This is pretty dismal, and I knew this when I purchased it, having experience with Gigabyte before. Thankfully, we now have Signal RGB software, which takes care of everything, and I mean everything. Also, I learned a long time ago that I do not like any vendors "Computer management software", where you are making BIOS changes from the Operating systems, and Gigabyte is no exception. I will stick with BIOS adjustments and overclocking and not make changes from the Operating system. However, the hardware is great with a very robust and cool running 20 phase MOSFETs for power, 8 layer PCB, and a heavy backplate for cooling and rigidity. Happy Computing! This Motherboard, on Sale, is a fantastic value, and should work out for hopefully many years. I also like the 2 additional PCIe Slots in addition to the 1 PCIe 5.0 slot for your graphics card. They are only rated at PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 3.0, but I like the option of additional PCIe peripherals while not diluting the 5.0 slot. This was a win from my perspective, but it depends on the features you want and or need. Having 2 x 5.0 PCIe slots running at 8 lanes and not 16 was not for me. Happy Computing! ... show more

  • Warranty useless. Won't be buying another GIGABYTE product
I've had motherboards last for many years. Less than 6 months in the 4th M.2 slot started failing. Drive would randomly be gone when in OS. If you swap the drive with another M.2 slot it works again for 2-4 weeks and disappears again (whatever drive is in the 4th M.2 slot). Been playing email tag with eSupport and after a few months they finally told me to RMA. This is my main computer and they don't provide a replacement while they "test" it. At this point I'm afraid it's not worth it. You need to pay to ship it, who knows what they do to your board, when are you getting something back, and if you get a refurb or your board back in a worse state. Didn't work with me to conduct testing/troubleshooting on my side. I would have been more than happy to get on a call, or share my screen, or carry out instructions provided. That way they can replace without me being down some unknown period of time. Just checked my RMA status and it says board was fine and they updated BIOS. Did all of that with support already. UPDATE: Received motherboard back after they said there was no problem with the board and updated the BIOS (not even up to date). Just what I figured, it failed again within 2 days using a different drive even. Took a month to get back to me after identifying the day they received it that all was well. Guess not. What will you do to fix the issue? ... show more
