  • Poor Value - Cheap as they Come - look elsewhere
Style: H310M S2H
I did 2 light duty media center builds. Both used an i3 8 gen processor. I bought a Asrock for $50, and this one for $57. This one was only purchased because I accidentally grabbed 2 different ASRock boards from another vendor (2nd did not support Gen 8). This one shipped same day....so that is a positive. Huge difference between builds. The ASRock was solid with a few higher end features, like decent heat sinks, intuitive cable hook ups (e.g. direction of Sata conections. The connections were solid and comparable to $150-$200 boards I used the in the past. Nice packaging. Useful Instruction book for connections. The Gigabyte was junk. All plastic. silly heatsinks (is it still called the southbridge?). Stupid placement and direction of cabling. Instructions were similiar to that throw away walmart furniture that you plan to use for a year. Only needed them for panel connections since letters are so small on the board...not even included. This board is the REASON I build my own and don't buy the pre-builts. Junk components. Other cons: Half as many SATA ports. half the USB 3.0. Pins on the board were garbage. Never Gibabyte again for me. That said, it posted fine. Can't see the SSD but Im sure Ill figure that out. ... show more

  • An inexpensive way to get a Cannon Lake CPU in your system.
Style: H310M A
I purchased this motherboard for an inexpensive workstation build at work where I’m a pharmacy technician. I paired it with an i3 8100 and 2x 4GB of Patriot Signature 2666mhz RAM and everything worked exactly as expected. The board gave me no problems during installation. The CPU and RAM detected and work perfectly on first boot. It’s a very modest board with few frills, but it’s all I need. All the connections were relatively well labeled. I did have a bit of confusion when attaching the front panel power and LED leads, but it was my fault with rushing through the build. The board has one PCI-E x16 slot and 2 PCI-E x1 slots. I’m using none of them (onboard graphics and no other expansions) so I can’t comment on them, although I’m sure they work. CPU power is a single 4-pin and the board power is the standard 24+4 pin. The BIOS is easy to navigate if you need to make any adjustments, although my build was quite literally plug-and-play. I installed Windows 10 on an NVME drive in less than 20 minutes. The only hiccup along the way was a few drivers that didn’t install with the rest of Windows. A quick trip to Gigabyte’s website got me the LAN and Intel chipset drivers that Windows didn’t pull in automatically. One thing to note for those who will be using an M.2 drive and other SSD/HDD drives; when the M.2 slot is occupied one of the 6GBPS SATA ports will be deactivated and the PCI lane will be used for the M.2 slot. I'm only using the NVME M.2 drive and no other attached drives, but be aware that if you plan on attaching other drives you'll be short one port if you make your boot device M.2. So far, everything is chugging along and there have been no issues since the initial build. I’d definitely recommend this board if you’re looking for an inexpensive board and you don’t need any/many features. It gets the job done for not a lot of money. ... show more

  • Great mb for the price
Style: H310M A
I used this in a budget gaming/media pc and have had zero issues. The one thing that really stands out to me is the audio quality. I have used the pc to record from a boss katana, and the quality has been great. On playback, I can really narrow in on what I need to do to improve. The audio quality is just amazing compared to my old pc. ... show more

  • Works Great
Style: H310M S2P
Build quality looks good. Fairly good performance and features. Install was easy. The standoffs and backplate (included with mobo) installed well in the Antec VSK3000 case I used. All the mobo mounting holes lined up with the standoffs. The power supply (Antec EarthWatts EA-380D) cables plugged in very easily. SATA cables, RAM (Ballistix Sport LT 8GB BLS2K4G4D240FSB) and CPU (i3-8100) also plugged in easily. No issues with first boot. I did not get into the BIOS - there was no need. Everything just worked right. I have not tried to overclock. I've only ran it a couple hours so I can't comment on long-term performance. Overall I'm very happy with the board. ... show more

  • Cheap but will work
Style: H310M A
I used this motherboard to build a pc for the first time. Since I am still new to building PCs, I wanted to start with something cheaper. This motherboard is pretty cheap and will be suitable for most people, unless your looking for more features. It arrives in a box with the motherboard in a plastic bag, two instruction papers, and the driver CD. When I started installing the motherboard to my case, I was a little bit rough, but did not do too much damage to the board. The board is mostly plastic, so I worried if I might break part of the board off when installing cables or the processor. A minor complaint would be the locations of the headers - they are spread out on the top left and bottom of the board, making cabling messy. There are only enough headers for a basic simple computer, so don't get creative. The motherboard and Gigabyte seem to have a strong preference for Windows OS. When everything was set, my computer entered the BIOS screen, which looks a bit different than the traditional BIOS screen. Most of the settings can be understood by going to the Gigabyte website and reading the support user's manual. The drivers and BIOS you need should be taken from Gigabyte's website before, since the CD probably is outdated, and if your motherboard is like mine, you will not have access to internet until the LAN drivers are installed. So far my computer has worked fine since. This motherboard is cheap and nice to use if it is your first build or you just want a simple cheap computer. ... show more
