Probably don't need to upgrade if you have a 40 series and get good performance, but I went from a 3060 to this and it has been great. For the money you spend on a 50 series you might as well get one over the equivalent of a 40 series since people are selling their used cards for more than their original msrp at around or more than the 50 cards.
