I have trouble using this where I need on my shoulders and back (55yr woman). This size would work great on a back. I think a small size would be better for my shoulders. I have used it on my forearms with relief. It is naturally on the cold side. The heating option to this ball feels awesome on sore muscles. i have nuked water to boil and warmed it up, but the good strong heat doesn't last, so i must be doing something wrong with that method.
