I hesitated in buying one of these for years. Suddenly, I feel like I really want to see the difference if having an air purifier in the house would make any difference, because I start to smell odors in my house even though I let the windows open and have some plug in air fresheners on. Well, first day this arrived, we turned it on max for 2-4 hours, and instantly we can feel that the air is fresher and less odor. We continue to keep this on when we are in the living room, and not only do we feel that the air is fresher, without opening any windows, we feel that it helps circulate the indoor air. The first setting is VERY QUIET, you can barely tell it is even on. Second setting, you can hear some air blowing and third setting is kind of loud. I don't usually turn on the third setting because it is kind of annoying loud fan noise. The second setting would do the job well, it just takes a little time. I love that this device has an UV-C light function so that it can also eliminate germs. I got this when it's on a limited time deal, so I would say this is really value for money, considering it can bring fresh clean air to the room. I haven't studied how much the replacement filters are, but we'll leave that for the future.

I have tried multiple models, Oreck table top, Vornado Hepa & very expensive Molekule. Finally I subscribed to Consumer Reports and this brand (not specific model) was in top 2 of their list. We also wanted something with UV germ protection, so the price seemed right to give it a try. Seriously, Molekule was 4x this price & rated at 20/100 by CR vs this brand at 80/100. On the first day, I closed our bedroom door & put it on full power. I have terrible hay fever every spring. I just wanted a nap without waking up breathing through my mouth and miserable. When I entered the room 2 hours later (the room is about half the size this model covers, so 150-200 sq ft), it smelled different, very crisp, almost like being outside after it rained or an ice rink. I took a nap & 90 min later I woke up and was amazed to take a full, deep, bottom of my lungs breath. That never happens when sleeping for me in hay fever season. Since then, I've had the same results, all night long, as long as room is sealed by closing door. Yes, it's loud. There's no question on this and if you want something super quiet at full speed, look elsewhere. We like the white noise & even have an app we play for our son to help him sleep with waves, rain or a fan sound, so that is a plus for our family. And fair warning, it does seem to generate cool air. It's winter now & with our door closed the single vent for the furnace in our room with the door closed isn't up to the task of heating the space even without the air purifier (with bathroom + walk-in closet). This device pulls in air & blows it out strongly on full power. It was enough to mean we had to move it farther from our curtains so it wouldn't suck them in or blow them around so they fluttered. It's a strong filter which could be a big plus or minus depending on your needs. I wouldn't recommend it for a Zen meditation space, spa or massage room where you seek silence. Also, other reviewers aren't wrong about its ability to get rid of strong smells quickly. I'm not sure which air purifiers in this price range & sq ft size would. Give it time and it will eliminate odors, smoke, etc. much faster than no air filtration. We have a 1400 sq ft home that isn't well sealed in main living area (dog door, front door doesn't seal tight, windows simple double panes), so it isn't as remarkable except in bedrooms with closed doors. We bought two for a big room and main area + a few small ones for other bedrooms, then close doors to rooms we're not in, etc. With the right ratio of devices to sq ft, it's exactly what it claims. It does need to be on full power constantly to achieve the room size stated, but that's true of all air filtration systems. It's declared clearly in all the product materials and industry standards. After many models, realistic understanding of what home filtration options available can do well, I can definitely say this one is top notch.

I now have 2 of these in my home. I have pet rats, a dog, a cat, and my roommates have 2 dogs, birds, and a cat. My husband and I are both very sensitive to allergies and before I had this when I first moved to the PNW, I was constantly suffering from my allergies. My place has no windows so there is no natural air flow and with so many pets it was seriously becoming an issue. Then there was smoke season, which I was just not prepared for. After a lot of research on different air purifiers, this one just made more sense due the the multiple things I was dealing with. After having it on the highest level on the first day, I immediately sensed a difference in the air. My allergies weren’t as bad, and I wasn’t waking up in the middle of the night with clogged nose and constant sneezing. With so many pets, it’s also helped with the odor. 1 year later, I’m almost 7 months pregnant, and with a baby on the way, we started considering getting another one for the living area. We had Covid a couple months back and we got really sick. We noticed after that our lungs had become more sensitive. We have not changed the original filter since we first got it, but we have changed the charcoal filter 3 times. The air purifier has gotten a little louder than when we first bought it, but we know it’s because it’s time to get a new filter for it. Smoke season is here and our lungs are now more sensitive. These past couple days I’ve been waking up wheezing, and with my allergies spiked. My husband has been experiencing the same. Again, we knew it was time for a new air filter and we knew the air purifier has not been doing that great of a job recently due to this. So we bought a new air purifier, and a new filter is on the way. We put the old air purifier In The living room while we wait for the new air filter, and installed the new one in our room. This was how we knew that this is the right air purifier. After having it on high, our sleep that night was rewarding. My allergies were minor the next day but I didn’t wake up wheezing or with a stuffy nose. I asked my husband how his allergies were that morning and he said he felt fine, his allergies were super minor which is pretty normal. I checked the air filter and it had already picked up so many particles from the air in 1 night. I give this a 4 stars because it’s ALMOST perfect. It works great and I trust it will help us when we have a newborn in a few months, but it is a little loud when placed in the highest setting. It is very quiet on the first 2 settings, but we feel it works best for us on the highest due to the environment we are in. We love it, there’s no doubt about it, and we highly recommend it.

Excellent air purifier and as someone who has pet birds, this air purifier is ozone free and bird safe. You can feel the difference in the air quality. The filter catches a lot of dust and dander. For example, on the highest setting, you can feel the pressure of air being pulled in on the sides. I like the sanitation feature which sanitizes the air with a UV light which is replaceable if needed. The filter included comes with a prefilter which saves you in the long run from replacing the filter and helps save the life of the original filter. I love this air purifier so much that purchased another one for more than seventy percent off the original price. I would highly suggest anyone to purchase this air purifier if you have pets and your home has a lot of dust. You can purchase different filters for different regions based on air quality. You cannot deny this HEPA filtration on this machine is the best! Thank you, Germ Guardian for building such a good air purifier.

One of the best investments I've ever made! After I turned it on the air smelled like fresh air in about an hour. It is a little noisy on the medium and high setting, but I think some people would like that because it's like white noise for sleeping. It's not heavy at all and I love how the light also works as a nightlight.

I have been using this air purifier for a year now and it works flawlessly. I have an indoor air quantity monitor and went the levels get high I turn this on and in a matter of a few minutes the air monitor starts showing better air. My only complaint is I wish it had a built in air quality monitor where it would run automatically on air quality readings

[PICTURE: it may look like a pointless dark photo, but it shows how dim the On/UV lights are in the dark. Taken from above, front-angle.] Have had various air cleaners ranging from small wall outlet units to several brands/styles of tower designs. This is the biggest and fanciest unit we've had. It can move serious amounts of air, or run very quietly -- we do the latter and bought it since usually large fans can move more air with less noise and better sound tones. Indeed, this is the quietest filter fan we have on low speed (it's right behind us while watching TV and I feel no need to "OCD" turn it off / never notice it) and has no weird tones to it like many of the small-fan tower designs have/develop. The air sucks in all around the nice looking front so you can set it against a wall or corner and have the "correct" side facing into the room. Air vents out the top so it sorta radiates and blends into circulation rather than blowing at you or your stuff. The controls are responsive and easy to understand at a glance, makes a pointless but soft/pleasant noise when buttons are pressed, and my favorite part is you can turn off most of the lights using an included light button. At minimum, you have a single light indicating the unit is running, and a 2nd identical light if the UV bulb is on; both are small, dim, and indirect, not casting a blue spotlight on the ceiling like a lot of cheap consumer devices. I'd probably still tape them if sleeping but most people will probably find them very livable in a bedroom. If not used in a dark space or if you want a (blue... not great for eyes in the dark) night light, it also has an attractive "ring" light that bleeds through a translucent portion of the front plastic -- looks well designed/integrated, premium. The silver/white gloss finish is attractive and unlike the vast sea of shiny black plastic products, does not show fingerprints / dust at all. Does not develop an ugly "micro-scratch" texture either. All of which is to say... It doesn't just look nice the first 5 seconds before you smudge and scratch it getting it out of the box, but still looks brand new after months of use. The filter inside is about 2/3 the size of our AC air intake (a lot of filter...) and has a pre-filter you can vacuum off to extend the life of the expensive main filter. The filter fits snugly. I don't notice much gook collecting around its seams where air leaks by -- a problem on other units we've had. After 4 months running 24/7, the UV light hasn't burned out and the main filter looks good beneath the pre-filter which gets cleaned about every 2 months. Looking at the filter now, we'll probably get a full year out of it or more. I've had towers with finicky UV lights that burn out often and will report back if that ever becomes the case with this unit. The unit is set up next to the condo of a pair of small furry pets, in a house with renovations going all the time... so it has plenty to be extracting and is doing a great job so far. Smells and dust around it are noticeably better. As with all products like this, you may want to research the "ozone" output from the UV light and decide if that's good or bad for where you're placing the unit. Overall, this is my favorite air filter/UV cleaner we have had over the years. Quiet/pleasant, nice looking/looks last, well built, and can move serious amounts of air when you want it to. Though it's wider and surprisingly thick compared to tower designs, it's a much more efficient use of space / more cleaning for the volume than the tower designs -- if you can budget it and physically fit it.
