  • Perfect for our asthmatic household. *Updated
Color: Gray Number of Items: 1
My toddler and I both have severe allergies and asthma. To the point that over the past month we have both been having major issues with the pollen and smog in the air, even with being home most of the time! I ordered this one after doing A LOT of research, and I decided this was the best for the money. With a true HEPA filter that you replace once a year (opposed to once a month) it would save money in the long run. I chose this one for the den in our house and over the coming weeks we will be getting smaller ones for the bed rooms. This review for right now is 24 hours in to having it on in the house, and later I will come back and add to it. Set up was easy straight out of the box, and I put it out of traffic areas in the house. I was worried with where I put it there would be trouble for good air circulation, but it is doing great! In fact with it on high I noticed a tag on the other side of the room (directly across) was moving on one of the toys yesterday as I was cleaning. Then I cooked fish last night (our den has an open doorway to the kitchen), and I couldnt even smell it cooking!! I decided to test it this morning, and sat on the couch painting my nails. Even using nail polish remover I couldnt smell it!!! (which astounds me b/c I hate doing my nails simple b/c of the toxic fumes!!) As far as noise, its not that bad. On high, with the tv and with kids running around it is a little white noise and thats it. I sleep with the bed room doors open, and having a tower computer on in the den annoyed me, however on medium I couldn't even hear it in the den! It also moves a lot of air b/c even when the ac isnt blowing air, it feels like it is b/c of this tower! I am super excited at the thought of having better air quality in the house so we dont have as many issues, and I know it will take probably a good month for me to be able to judge that (and trust me I keep up with our flair ups b/c my son sees a specialist so I can tell you if it will make a difference or not). I also liked the UV light, since we have kids over to play all the time it makes perfect sense to have it to. Also anyone that has lung issues, make sure to avoid any purifier that has the ion part (where you turn it on for a fresh smell) it actually causes lung problems (if you have underlying problems). Oh and check out the reviews on walmart . com for this purifier, it has hundreds of reviews and most are five star (which is one of the reasons I went with this model even though not everyone loved it on here). Check back in August and I will add an update =) ****************************UPDATE****************************** 12/2/2012 Hi ALL! Sorry took me so long to come back and update =) Fortunately if you see below I did give a heads up three weeks in we still loved it. This unit is holding up well, and really does a good job! Since buying it (I guess going on six months ago now --WOW THAT WENT FAST!!) it helped with our asthma and allergies. Within the first month I stopped waking up with a stuffy nose, and it was taking particles out of the air so I wasn't seeing as much dust. I still would love to have them in each room, but that is on the back burner. Make sure you have enough for the sq footage of your room. We have since moved to a larger place, that has more sq footage in the den, and also two open doorways leading to other rooms. As such, this unit is doing really well for how much air it has availability to; when I should honestly probably should have one more in here. It isn't too loud, and I love the uv light. Within the first month of us having it we were exposed to someone (a visitor) that wound up having pneumonia. With the fact we have a higher risk of catching lung illnesses, I was really nervous. I think a big contributor to not catching it is because we had this unit running on high with the uv light. I highly recommend this unit, and I hope it helps! =) ***********************************Update 6/26/13 We just about hit the year mark! Still working great and going strong! Make sure you wipe down (inside and out) once a month (as the book says). Still going strong, and working well! =) Buy this one, and you wont regret it! ***********************************Update 11/13/13 Unit is still working great! We added a second one earlier this year, and pleased with both! =) ***********************************Update 06/29/14 Both units are still going strong with no issues. Still helping with our asthma and allergies. ... show more

  • Excellent air purifier
Color: Gray Number of Items: 1
This air purifier has made a noticeable difference in the air quality of my office. It's quiet, easy to use, and does a great job reducing dust, odors, and allergens. The HEPA filtration provides peace of mind, and the unit is compact enough to fit nicely in a bedroom, office, or living area. Setup was simple, and it runs efficiently without being disruptive. Great quality and excellent value. Great for a smaller space. ... show more

  • Excellent

We've had many different air purifiers/filters, and this is by far the best we ever had. I'm sure if you pay twice as much, you might get a better one; but this does exactly what it says. Our home smells and seems cleaner, and it really can clean the air in a medium to large size room in under an hour. Very simple 3-speed dial, and a one touch physical button to turn on/off the UV light. This makes it likely to be more reliable and you don't need a Phd to work it. lol It also is designed with aesthetics in mind, it's actually kind of pretty. We haven't had to replace a UV light yet, but replacing filters is as simple as it gets, plus the first filter can be washed to save money. Not a complaint or flaw at all, but when you position it, the air does not blow straight out but at an angle. And for those concerned about noise... the low speed is very quiet, medium speed is not unpleasant, and high speed is only loud if you are near it. I bought a second one and may buy more. ... show more

  • Great but slightly noisy
Color: Gray Number of Items: 1
Very nice for the price and it definitely works well my only complaint is on high you get the best air filtration but it’s also noisy. It has 3 speeds which lvl 1 is a lot quieter. Very easy to use very simple to replace filters definitely a good size tower not to big not to small. Controls are very straight forward one button for UV light and rotation switch for speeds if ever needed I’d buy again more of a large room or open area. Kinda loud for a bedroom and nursery but worth the money! ... show more

  • A Well-Priced Air Purifier That Works On Many Levels!
Color: Gray Number of Items: 1
I used many air purifiers in the past. The last one I had was the Coway Smart Air Purifier with HEPA Filter. https://www.amazon.com/Coway-AP-1012GH-Smart-Purifier-Filter/dp/B00A9PTSFO/ref=sr_1_3?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1468966366&sr=1-3&keywords=coway+air+purifier. It lasted me three years without changing the main HEPA filter (only the black carbon filter was changed). I like this filter as it is used in the same sized room (12’ X 15’) and is run on high, like the Coway, nearly 24/7. The white noise it produces is great for sleeping and keeping the minor traffic noise eliminated. There are three levels on the circular knob. It does eliminates allergens (I have terrible dust allergies), viruses and bacteria, and odors (I move it into the kitchen for one-half hour on rare occasions I burn something or cook something smelly. Unlike the Coway, where the carbon filter is loosely and separately attached to the HEPA filter, the Germguardian velcro’s the black carbon filter to the front of the HEPA so it does not fall off or attach miss-shaped. It is easily attached and removed. This is important, as I like to detach the carbon filter and run it under water to remove any dander, allergens dust, or pet hair. This does wear on the filter over time, but makes it last a little longer before I need to purchase a new one (about 9-12 months). The HEPA filter catches the large majority of everything else and will last 9-12 months. I make mine last longer by reverse vacuuming with a vacuuming utensil. This, however, will only last a few times before you need to purchase a new HEPA filter. I used this on my Coway and had it last almost three years. The UV-C light is new (not on the Coway) and helps to kill viruses, bacteria and odors. The UV-C light fixture is a little hard to get to and detach, but is easily cleaned with a damp cloth. This will last years unless it is broken, which would only occur with dropping of the unit. I found that you don’t need to buy an expensive unit to get the same job done. It’s also smaller than most units and just as attractive. The blue light that shows it is working is noticeable, but not offensive or too bright in a dark room. I feel it is well designed. It pays to shop around especially since there are so many different types of air purifiers on the market. You don’t need a Cadillac when a Prius will do. It’s a good machine. ... show more

  • but this one is definitely the best. I've been using it in my bedroom for ...
Color: Gray Number of Items: 1
I've had several other air purifiers lately, including towers from Holmes and Honeywell, but this one is definitely the best. I've been using it in my bedroom for about a week now, and since then the air quality has really improved; not only am I sneezing and waking up less, it just SMELLS crisp and fresh in the room. I'll be buying another larger one for the main living areas soon. The unit comes out of the box ready to go with no assembly. The filters are already installed, and all you have to do it plug it in. It was well packaged and came with no damage. It's a bit shorter than I expected, but I am comparing it to a Holmes model that I bought at a big box retailer for around the same price. The quality difference between the two is very obvious; the GermGuardian is heavy and feels more premium than the cheap plastic that the other one is made out of. The instructions tell you how to use it and set it up and when to replace the filters - the light on it will flash when it's time to replace it, which is nice so I don't to mess around with stickers or other nonsense. The prices of the filters seem more reasonable than some of the other reviews suggested (some people bought whole house furnace filters and cut them up) and I think I'll just be buying the pre fit ones instead of trying to cut a bigger one up (yeah yeah convenience is king in this house, even over saving a few bucks). They last 6-8 months, depending on use, and there's only one to replace. One particular Hamilton Beach purifier I tried had THREE (!!!!) filters I needed to replace every one-two months or so, and the filters cost about half as much as the unit itself! I'm much happier with this set up. It picks up the cat hair and dust in the bedroom and, like I said, the air seems much more breathable. There weren't any odors in the bedroom to begin with, so I can't tell you about it's odor absorbing properties (although I've been REALLY impressed with GermGuardian's smaller odor killer unit for the cat-box room GermGuardian GG1000 Pluggable UV-C Air Sanitizer and Odor Reducer), but it HAS helped my allergies a great deal. I still use my Flonase, but now I don't wake up all night because I can't breath or I'm sneezing, and the cats being in the room don't bother me. The whole room smells FRESH. As I mentioned, I'm well enough impressed that I'll be buying another, larger, one to keep out in the main rooms. The fresh air smell is so great in the bedroom that I just want it everywhere in the house. It's like having the windows open all the time without the pollen or allergens. They already show you what the product looks like, so I've included a picture of how bright the blue UV light is at night (I turn the light off but keep the unit running), and next to an average sized cat so you can get a sense of its actual size. The advertising makes it look taller, but believe me it's not a drawback at this price, and even though it's smaller it works perfectly for a bedroom. ... show more

  • A good filter
Color: Gray Number of Items: 1
I have these in several rooms and they run constantly. After several months a red light will flash to indicate the filter should be changed (I just blow them off with compressed air while wearing a mask outside). Hold down the button and the light will return green again. The blue light inside these units will fail and replacement bulbs can be ordered. Air quality is noticeably good. These help prevent colds from spreading to family. They reduce pollen and house dust. I use one behind my 3D printer to reduce plastics in the air. I even use one in my crawl space to reduce dust and mold spore risk. Noise level is not bad, it is just background white noise that can actually be good for sleep. We rarely have the blue light on because it can be distracting. At one point this manufacturer had a digital control model instead of a switch; get the switch model so that it will turn on again after a power outage. Replacement filters are of a standard (and common) size and are easy to order. ... show more
