  • Built Like a Tank, Works Like a Precision Tool: The Multitool That Earns Its Keep
The Gerber Gear Truss Multitool is a masterclass in practical engineering—tough, refined, and ready for anything. After putting it through weeks of real-world use, from garage repairs to camping trips, I can confidently say it punches far above its price tag. This isn’t a gimmick gadget; it’s a serious piece of kit designed for people who actually use their tools. Build Quality & Engineering: From the moment you unfold it, the Truss exudes confidence. The all-steel construction feels rock solid—no flex, no rattle, no shortcuts. Each of the 17 integrated tools deploys smoothly and locks into place with satisfying precision. Gerber’s design team clearly prioritized balance and ergonomics; it feels equally at home in your hand whether you’re cutting, prying, or turning a screw. The spring-loaded needle-nose pliers have excellent tension and alignment—tight enough for control, but never stiff or sticky. Metal Quality & Durability: The stainless steel used here is excellent. It resists corrosion, holds a sharp edge, and shrugs off abuse that would scar lesser tools. The wire cutters handle both copper and steel wire cleanly, and the knife blade sharpens easily while retaining an edge longer than expected for this price point. This is a tool you can throw in a truck, take on the trail, or keep in a workshop without worrying about it giving up under pressure. Packaging: Even the presentation feels premium. The Truss comes in a compact, protective box with a sturdy nylon sheath that mounts horizontally or vertically—simple, secure, and clearly built for longevity. Pros: Superb all-steel construction with tight tolerances. The design is perfect! Smooth tool deployment and solid locking mechanisms. Durable materials built for real-world wear. Versatile 17-in-1 configuration covers nearly every EDC need. Exceptional value—rivals tools costing twice as much. Cons: Slightly heavier than some competitors (a fair trade for the strength). Use Cases: Perfect for EDC, vehicle kits, camping, construction work, or general home repairs. Compared to premium multitools from Leatherman or Victorinox, the Gerber Truss delivers nearly identical functionality and build integrity at a fraction of the cost. In short: it’s rugged where it needs to be, refined where it counts, and built to last a lifetime. ... show more

  • Great Budget Multitool For EDC
The Gerber Truss does fine for what I need it to do. It comes with a lot of tools and two knives. The awl's edge is pretty sharp and works well as a package opener. The phillips screwdriver has a surprisingly long reach for a multitool. The outermost tools have fingernail holes to assist in opening and with a little practice you can open them one-handed. The sheath is crap. It feels flimsy and I am not a fan of velcro closures. The snap-closure mag pouch I bought for my old multitool (an mp400) on my duty belt is just too small for this guy, so I had to buy a new one. I am a little concerned that the thicker spring-assisted plier handles might be an issue with some of the very tight confines I have needed pliers in. The plier's jaws don't open as wide either. If I had a least favorite tool from this set its definitely the wire stripper. Overall, for the price, I think this is a perfectly fine entry-level multitool. The lower price point means you can more easily replace it if it breaks, gets lost, or is stolen, and I have had all three happen with various gear at my job. If I had to pick between replacing a $60 workhorse that is good enough and I can beat the bejesus out of and not feel bad or a top-tier $180 EDC queen I'll cry over for scratching, I'll pick the workhorse every single day. ... show more

  • Perfect choice for outdoor activities and gift
Overall, I can’t complain. Sheath is included in packaging… I don’t like it so I’ll carry the tool in my bag though. Knives, scissors, and saw came very, very sharp hence you have to be very careful and no sharpening is required. It is well lubricated with oil everywhere. I’ll see if the sharpness lasts long after many uses and edit this review. The difference between swiss army knife and this is definitely a plier and it works flawlessly. But I agree other reviews saying that it doesn’t look like it will endure super heavy uses such as desperate hold or strong torque. And yeah, it is needle nose plier, definitely not for plumbing jobs even if it was a stand alone plier. Hence I’ll spare this plier for minor repairs or emergency situation, not for major repairs. 20-30$ stand alone pliers at shop will work better and sturdy. Oh and it can only hold things less than like 2 inches in diameter since it can’t be open wider. You can’t expect it to work like smooooth butterfly knife like a contract killer or spy’s knife, even if it is butterfly “style”, in fact you can’t open it using only one hand. Size is just about fine, even small and compact enough for women to handle it. I’m not saying it is too small for big men. I found few drawbacks. Inner side(or center) tools especially awl, are very hard to pull out with your nail, I almost broke my nail while trying it. There’s no way to pull out awl without pulling out all other tools first for me, but thinking of frequency of usage of it, it’s fine. All other tools can be drawn out with little force. Either pinching it or hold a little handle. Tool locking mechanism and a spring inside is a little too tough so the lever digs in to my finger and it hurts. But it never let go extended tools accidentally so it is not that bad. If you have a boyfriend, husband, friend who’s into fixing things or any outdoor activities, give them this as a gift. They will shed a tear in joy and carry it everyday for sure. ... show more

  • Very well constructed and built heavy duty! 5 stars
This Gerber Multi tool knife is great! I ordered it because my old Leatherman multi tool knife broke and I didn't want to spend th big amount of money on another one. My friend has a Gerber multi tool knife similar to this one and I really liked it. I ordered this one because I wanted one with spring loaded pliers and I also wanted one with the Spring assisted scissors. The serrated blade is very sharp and so is the 2nd regular blade. This knife is very well built. I can tell it's going to hold up to regular use and will be able to take a beating! I'm very happy with my decision to purchase this brand of multi tool! ... show more
Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2025 by It's a decent light but it's definitely not made of iron like the description says. It's made of cheap metal and the paint job is crappy.other than that it's a good product
