Description

The Frees cape Hatchet uses a forged steel head that's world class in strength and a design that ensures efficient and reliable chopping. It can tackle a myriad of campsite duties; create kindling for the fire, pound in tent stakes, or make a primitive shelter with ease. Coated with a low-friction surface, the hardened blade slices through wood at a greater than average depth, allowing for faster chopping and maximum overall performance efficiency. The Frees cape hatchet is a rough, ready and clever tool in the Gerber Frees cape series. Additionally, when not protecting its blade, the sheath conveniently stores in the handle.

  • Great camping hatchet
Style: Hatchet- 17.5 in.
Very well designed. Lightweight, I've put this thing through a lot of abuse and the handle hasn't cracked or broken anywhere. Good for splitting small firewood like 3.5" or less in diameter. Very sharp blade, can be used as a knife if you're careful. Not too thrilled about the blade cover, it's bulky. I'll probably replace it with a leather cover. ... show more

  • #1 survival tool. MUST HAVE
Style: Hatchet- 17.5 in.
Dude this hatchet is my favorite piece to my gear ! I went from the fiskars x7 to the gerber Freescape. I was considering the x11 but it has more of a wedge from my observations. This one is basically just an upsized x7 . I don’t really consider the x11 a hatchet so I went with the gerber freelance. I wanted something with more bite and this hatchet exceeds my expectations. You can chop 2 times as fast and deep as the gerber 14”hatchet which is basically the fiskars x7. The Scandinavian grind and light weight material used on the freescape is perfect for anyone working with wood whether your builder shelters/camp , splitting fire wood or failing small trees this blows all competition out the way by miles ! I never go hiking or camping with out this! Even limbing trees in your yard, this tool just can’t be beat ! ... show more

  • Great addition to my camping gear, sharp and efficient!
Style: Hatchet- 17.5 in.
I'm so glad I got this great little hatchet for my camping trips. It's the perfect size for splitting wood and even making kindling. Super sharp and very effective. It's small enough to fit in my camping bin. A huge step up from my old Coleman hatchet that gets dull so quickly.

  • Good value larger hatchet
Style: Hatchet- 17.5 in.
Made with pretty good steel and quite sharp, though not in the same league as the MUCH more expensive Gransfors Bruks hatchets or axes. Then again, you won't cry if it gets stolen, lost or broken, though you will miss this "middle-ish" hatchet for certain applications. You COULD use it as a small axe in a pinch because of it's design, balance and size, but it is doable for carry when a full size axe might be cumbersome, like an overnight camping trip, to split some kindling or cut smaller pieces of wood. It's made by the reputable Fiskars company from Finland. GOOD VALUE tools! ... show more

  • Great camping hatchet
Style: Hatchet- 14 in.
I camp by bicycle and I have mounted this axe with the holder it came with, to my bicycle. I can release it pretty quickly from the mounting bracket. Even though it is a smaller hatchet, it actually splits pretty good due to the shape of the head. It is also very sharp and well balanced. The best part about it; It matches my bike! ... show more

  • Works Great
Style: Hatchet- 17.5 in.
Very nice medium length ax, works better if you do not swing it too hard and let the weight of it work for you.
