Fantastic unit, and a huge step up from 3018/3040 conversions
I was using a 3018 to 3040 converted machine for a couple years, and was absolutely plagued with the amount of play in everything, resulting in chatter and poor tolerances and etc. This unit is SO MUCH more solid than the units that run on tubular rails and move the workpiece up and down on the Y axis. Within the first hour of milling, I had a problem: The power wire to the motor burned. It turned out upon autopsy that one of the leads of the main power wire had been severed inside the insulation (and within the drag chain), probably during manufacture rather than just an hour of operation. That began arcing, the arcing melted the insulation as well as the neighboring wire's insulation, and the two shorted. I contacted SainSmart and they were very responsive, immediately shipped me an entire replacement drag chain assembly and a couple other parts that could have potentially been damaged due to the short, and followed up about how it worked. Definitely very well supported - the exact opposite of the first machine I used. In my opinion, if any one thing could be seriously improved (including by the user), it would be this main power wire. It's maybe 18ga in less-than-flexible insulation, and I would replace that with about 14ga flexible wire in silicone insulation plus an outer jacket. But I haven't had any issues with the replacement wire - I just think that could have been a bit better designed, and could be improved by you in your shop very easily. The drag chain has lots of extra space - mine is now also home to a small poly air line, as well as a 120vAC tool cord for the router, so you can stuff other lines of different types through the drag chain as needed, rather than having them dangling around the work area. If you've never assembled any desktop CNC before, you might think this is a pain to assemble. It's not. I was done in maybe 2 and a half hours. A surprising number of parts actually come pre-assembled, so that you only have to do maybe half or a third of the actual assembly in your own shop. I used a lot of thread locker. I don't know that this is necessary, but the fasteners are going to take a lot of vibration, so it's probably a good idea. It's been a pleasure to use. I've used it with the included 300w 48vDC spindle which is very good, a >1HP router, and a 10w laser. The machine has performed exceedingly well all the time. There's SO much more force in the stepper motors than the little 3018 devices (and the torque clutches have much, much higher thresholds), it makes milling completely different. I've milled soft woods, hard woods, acrylic, and a lot of aluminum on this so far. I expect I could probably mill some mild steel with a good carbide bit and a lot of patience, but I haven't tried that yet. I also added some little cardboard flaps on the left and right sides to keep dust and chip out from under the roller wheels for the Y axis. I don't know if they'd have issues rolling over debris, but it could potentially raise the gantry and mess up your Z axis, so I think it's probably smart to cover those with some dust deflectors. ... show more

I'm overall very happy with this CNC, but it's not perfect. The setup was not too bad, although there were a few steps that I was slightly uncomfortable with (it might be worth noting that I'm a bit of a perfectionist). ***Please be careful tightening the set screws for the stepper motors, especially in the Y-axis. I noticed that the hex wrench they provide can strip if you're not careful. Making sure the positioning is correct and that they are tight enough is very important. It wouldn't hurt to add some thread locker on these as well. For the Y-axis, there are no instructions on how to align the two stepper motors which I thought was strange. It's not difficult to do and is a crucial step. All you have to do is use a ruler to measure the distance of the gantry to the back edge of the platform on each side to make sure they are parallel before tightening the set screws. I found it easier to just use a box and mark it with a pen since the gantry is relatively high up. If you try to run the machine with these not aligned, it will cause unnecessary stress on the gantry and motors, and possibly affect the accuracy of the machine. So far I've cut wood and aluminum with good results (see pictures). The aluminum part in one of the pictures got a little messed up on one edge because I ran the feed too fast with a 1/16" end mill and ended up snapping it clean off. I upgraded to the Dewalt motor so that I could cut aluminum more confidently and have a better variety of end mills to choose from with the 1/4" collet. I also added a dust boot to make clean up easier (so much more convenient!). Running the machine with the dust boot connected to a small shop vac makes clean up virtually non-existent. However, there are some times when I need to have a clear view of the end mill as it's cutting so I'll refrain from using it occasionally. One disadvantage using the Dewalt spindle motor is that you're limited to manual speed control and the minimum RPM is 16,000! I often run it on the lowest RPM and adjust my feed rates to compensate. My personal favorite thing about moving up to the 1/4" end mills is that you get a whole lot more rigidity which equates to more accurate cuts. With the 1/8" (stock spindle) I could occasionally see the shank flexing as it cut. This might not matter for most people, but if you're trying to get the most accurate parts possible this is worth considering. One last thing I would recommend is to get the offline control module. It is so worth it! It depends on your setup, but for me it made it way more convenient to use overall. If you're new to CNCing, just know that having a good machine like this one is only half of the requirements to make good, consistent parts. It also relies heavily upon your ability to properly setup the speeds and feeds, tool paths, and fixtures. Good luck, and take it slow! HIghly capable CNC Routere with easy set up
Assembly and set up was even easier than advertised. My initial need was drilling holes in aluminum parts and achieve consistency in diameters and locations. The packaging and supply of all components and tools needed for assembly is incredible. The whole process took less than three hours. The machine retains extreme accuracy. I did have the need to access a loose screw and Sainsmart product support responded to my request for help on the same day I contacted them and resolved the matter right away. The only thing I suggest to future buyers and existing users that machine aluminum is to have a bottle of blue Quick Tight on hand when screws loosen up. End mills especially send a lot of vibration through the machine. I highly recommend the Prover XL 4030. It is easy to set up, operate, maintain and is a very cost-effective tool. ... show more

Support for this product is non-existent for any practical purpose
I've had 2 issues with this item. i also bought the 6060 extension kit and offline controller. The first issue was self-inflicted because the offline controller came with a single page of instructions in a foreign (German I think) language. The machine was erratic but I resolved the issue myself before customer service got back to me days later - the offline controller cannot be connected to the machine at the same time as the computer. Had the instructions been in English, for an item to be sold in the U.S.A. I could have read that immediately instead of having to research to find it out. The second issue was/is more difficult, after working fine for weeks, the Z axis became erratic, going both up and down randomly when jogging, and when homing, the Z axis moves slowly down instead of up and does it with a grinding noise. The machine has now been down a week, but to give SainSmart the benefit of the doubt, the latest problem occurred on a Friday night, so they've only had 5 weekdays to troubleshoot and solve the problem. So far the first email reply was basically a form letter that asked me to check parameters and for a video, the next day, they asked me to be patient while they study the issue and the videos I sent. This is not my idea of good customer service, seems more like using paying customers as beta testers. This is a somewhat complex machine, but there are only a couple of components that could be causing my machine's problems. One or fewer emails a day will drag what should be an hours long issue out to days or weeks to resolve. This may be a relatively inexpensive machine compared to other's of it's size, but I've still got $1500.00+ invested and expect some support, so far customer service has been at an absolute minimum level, limited to stalling email replies. Any machine can and will malfunction and the measure of quality of a company is the support they give, this company has given no meaningful support. If and when this problem is resolved, I'll update this review, but at this point, I'd strongly recommend that you spend a little more and pass this company by. For those of you reading reviews before a purchase, notice that all the high ratings come from people that haven’t required support from the company yet. Lovely Heavy Duty CNC Ganty
I'm doing some cabinetry work for my house and found myself in need of a machine to cut arches for cabinet doors. Last time I did this I used my CNC milling machine, but the table size is limited and cutting wood on a metal machine tool can be a mess to clean up. So I started thinking, maybe one of these CNC routers would work. The problem that I saw was that most of these router setups are pretty light weight. I figured I would need to use at least a 1/4" router bit to be able to cut my 1" thick material. I saw this kit and the frame looked a lot stiffer then the competition. So I took a chance and ordered the machine. The machine came with in a few days and I was very impressed. The frame was made out of very robust aluminum extrusions and was beautifully anodized. The construction of the machine was very solid. My gamble was paying off. So I started testing the machine out. I quickly realized that the supplied spindle wasn't stiff enough to make the heavy cuts I was needing with the 1/4" router bit. The machine came with a wood router mount so I installed one of my small routers on the machine. To my liking, the machine was now stiff enough to make 1/4" deep cuts with the 1/4" router bit with no noticeable chatter. I'd just have to program multiple cutting passes but SheetCAM can do that easily. I then drew out a profile using AutoCAD and then imported it into SheetCAM to generate the G-Code. To my surprise, the latest version of SheetCAM had a GRBL post processor that seemed to work. After some testing, it looks like this machine will work fine for my cabinetry work. Heck, now that I have the CNC router, I might even try adding some carvings to my work. We'll see. I also bought the 24" extension upgrade kit and the aluminum spoil board so I can handle all of my door sizes. Both upgrades are gorgeous anodized aluminum construction. I also purchased the Offline Controller module. While it is a little bit cumbersome to use, for about $40, it is nice not getting saw dust all over my laptop whenever I need to cut something. So Over all I'm very pleased with the machine. I only gave it 4-stars because it did require some tech support on a few instances. But I have to give 5-stars to Sainsmart's technical support as they really went out of their way to make sure the machine was up and running properly. Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 - Great Machine, SainSmart - Great Service

I bought a Genmitsu PROVerXL 4030 in late 2022 as my first CNC Routing machine. I am an experienced (hobby) woodworker with nearly 40 years of experience using traditional woodworking equipment. The CNC machine was added to expand my project capability. The Genmitsu was an excellent choice because it allowed me to start small (300mmx400mm cutting envelope), but expand to 600x600 or 1000x1000 for a modest additional investment - using many of the parts purchased with the original 4030. I encountered a few minor challenges along the way in both hardware and software. At about 11 months my spindle motor started acting badly, needing a gentle spin to get started. When discussing this with a SainSmart Tech, without prompting, he said that it should not be doing that and offered to replace it under warranty - which they did. In year two, I had a problem with 3D relief programs stopping in mid-run for no apparent reason. The SainSmart Tech identified a few things that could be causing the problem, but suggested that I also change my G-code software from Candle to UGS. That change solved my problem. Overall, I've been very happy with the 4030 machine. When I wear out the machine X-Y lead screws, I'll use that as an excuse to upgrade to the 600x600 machine. But, I'm even more happy with the after purchase support provided by SainSmart. They respond promptly to questions, provide excellent technical input and follow-up to assure that problems are corrected to your satisfaction. An excellent CNC router

Unit arrived very well packaged. Easy setup, I suggest using blue loctite on all the screws. I use UGS to run this machine and Carveco Maker for design. The included 300W spindle is okay for engraving but if you want to cut or mill, the upgrade to a bigger motor is a necessity in my opinion. The ProverXL 4030 came with the dewalt dwp611 mount so you automatically save 65 bucks. I also installed the Foxalien remote switch so that the spindle turns on and off automatically. With the much more powerful dewalt motor cutting and milling are quite easy. This is an excellent machine to have if you’re looking to get into CNC work. I’ve had only one issue in about 150 hours of operation so far. I went to home the machine after completing a job and the Z axis failed to stop when the Z up limit switch actuated. I stopped the machine and after some brief troubleshooting determined that the Z limit wire harness had a broken wire. The switches both worked and the controller received the OPEN/CLOSED signal okay. I emailed SainSmart at 3 pm MST with a summary of the issue and by 6 pm I had received a response with an apology and a promise to send a new Z axis limit harness. They were out of stock but said they should be able to send a new wire harness within a week. True to their word they shipped me the new harness at no cost to me and the customer support rep, Joey, kept in touch throughout the process including checking in to insure i had shipping updates and confirmed delivery. Very easy install for the new wire harness and i’m happily back to running my machine. I was disappointed I encountered this failure but the customer support was outstanding.
