  • Great Machine and Excellent Customer Service
Review: Sainsmart Genmitsu 3030 CNC I purchased the Sainsmart Genmitsu 3030 CNC in April 2024 and really enjoy using it. I had no previous experience with CNC machines as my career was in Human Resources. I was just looking for something new to learn in retirement for a hobby. This is a versatile and powerful machine that has impressed me with its capabilities. Some other information that I have read suggest that the 3030 was designed to be used for metal work but I have only used it to do carvings on woods such as Basswood, Oak, Walnut, Cherry, and Mahoganey. Three features that I really like about the 3030 are: 1) The Precision and Accuracy of the machine. It uses dual linear guides and ball screws within the X, Y, and Z axes which I understand is better than some other designs. 2) The 3030 CNC was really easy for me to set up and begin using right out of the box. {And it was packaged very well.) I was able to run my first project within a few hours of receiving it. The 3030 has proven to be quite durable with minimum maintenance required during the nine months I have used it. {This includes many hours of use...sometimes many hours daily.) There are a couple of areas that may cause concern for some users depending on the materials being used and location of the machine. 1) Noise Level: The machine can be quite noisy during operation, which might be a concern for those working in shared or quiet environments. (I don't know that this can be improved on because after all it is a router.) 2) Limit Switch Issues: Although this has not been a problem for me some users have indicated occasional issues with the limit switches, which can affect the machine's performance. (This only seems to be those that machine metal which have particles falling into the limit switches...I personally have not had these issues with wood.) One other thing I would like to mention is the excellent customer service that Sainsmart has provided me with the 3030 along with my Genmitsu L8 20 Watt laser, (especially Jamie, the agent I have communicated with in the past.) They have been responsive, helpful, and gone above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction on any questions I have submitted by email. I would recommend the Sainsmart Genmitsu 3030 CNC both beginners and experienced users. ... show more

  • Unit died part of the way through my first set of parts for a customer (now fixed)
Nice machine until it isn't and then maybe is again. On my first project for a customer the machine lost it's mind a few hours before a deadline to ship. I had written a review (1*) in total frustration wanting help. I also sent an email to support which took 24 hours for a response I eventually 4 hours later found that the Y axis limit switch was fouled with aluminum chips. cleared with an air hose and was able to complete the project, but not ship on time. Used UGS program's setup wizard to test the limit switches which showed the Y axis to have issues. The good: Very easy to assemble Well built. Very rigid and heavy (except for some screws mentioned below) Had no problem making 2mm depth lateral cuts at 40mm/min feed using an 1/8" carbide mill tool. The not so good: No troubleshooting support on line or anywhere I could find. This should be a category on the resource web page. Limit switches that can get fouled by metal shavings and shut the machine down in the middle of a cut. Will be fabricating some kind of a cover to rectify that. The Candle software supplied may have issues or not. Windows pops up a warning against viruses when installing. Did install, but have not experienced any issues yet. Motor mount bolts that keep coming loose and or breaking. Need better quality bolts. Z probe sensor screw came loose causing intermittent ramming of the tool into the sensor base hard enough to push the motor up in its mount. Be sure and check the screw in the bottom of the sensor base if you have one. ... show more

  • Great little machine out of the box.
This machine worked for me great out of the box. I do have a lot of machining experience however I didn't need hardly any of it to get this machine up and runing, assembly instructions are clear and easy to follow. I did not use the provided computer software, I wanted to use the offline controller as much as possible and it's a bit limited but does great for everything I have done so far. The machine has a couple little quirks with the controller but overall very useable. Build quality of the machine is very good for a light duty machine its very sturdy as long as you don't push it to hard it should work great for most things small scale diy. I have about 70 hours machining aluminum so far and it's still running as good as day one. Dimensional accuracy is better than most people can measure its within a .01mm over 100mm plenty good for me. Overall very pleased with this machine. The one bad thing I have experienced so far is the z axis touch probe does not work reliably (I don't use it) it will work fine but you need to verify that the cable is plugged into the controller properly and that the touch trigger is actually stopping the machine when contacting the tool., otherwise it will just keep going. ... show more

  • Great Machine and Great Customer Service
This machine is pretty solid for the price you pay. My goal with buying a CNC router was to be able to machine 6061-T6 Aluminum for my projects. Out of the box the machine is capable of this. However, I strongly suggest upgrading the spindle to either the SainSmart router or a Makita router as they will greatly increase the feeds and speeds you can use with metals. With a router installed, I've been able to cut mild steel parts which is crazy for a machine this size and price. I've had questions about the machine, so I've reached out to customer support and they really care about helping you resolve any issues/questions. Overall, this is a really good machine and I recommend it if you are wanting to make some metal parts! ... show more

  • Robust Machine
This is a wonderful machine. I purchased a different machine with similar specifications and size, and this one beats it in every category. It is more sturdy, the motors are more robust, and it is put together to not have cabling issues. Everything was thought out well. The offline controller is a bit lacking as it does not give coordinates, which I find easier to use to set the zero point. Also, it does not have a feature in the offline controller to use the Z-axis probe. I think if there is one area where Genmitsu could improve, it is in the offline controller. Not everyone wants to use a computer. I also could not get the WiFi adapter (sold separately) to work as that has some added features, but may also be somewhat lacking. However, the overall build quality and design of the machine is by far superior. Even the motors are quieter that my other machine, just keep in mind, it is a router. Note, I opted for the 710W spindle to cut aluminum. ... show more

  • not safe
its well built and was a good introduction to cnc with Easel. it cut aluminum well. however, it randomly crashed into my work while using the controller to move the spindle. it was carefully set to move only 1mm, yet it slammed the z into my work and destroyed it on three different occasions. this device could sever fingers with its moving deck. be careful. ... show more

  • Solid entry-level ball screw machine, with some controller issues.
The 3030 PROVer MAX is my third Genmitsu machine, and it's very well-constructed and assembly was a snap, as it's pretty much just bolting the gantry to the table and connecting wires -- way easier than the entry-level 3018 kit I started with. However, unlike the smaller Genmitsu systems, the 3030 users a new ARM 32 based GRBL controller which is much faster and more capable, but I ran into serious compatibility problems with some open source gcode senders and the new controller -- the arcane details are that the controller is reporting active status pins being set for hold, reset, and cycle start buttons "Pn:RHS" in the GRBL status packet -- buttons the machine doesn't have -- which cause some gcode senders (notably UGS and bCNC) to see the cycle start set with every status update and go into loops the make operation impossible. UGS has made machine-specific corrections for some Genmitsu routers, but bCNC will require you to edit source code to bypass the cycle start issue. Just to be clear this is 100% a Genmitsu firmware issue as those buttons shouldn't be reported active since connections for them don't exist, and it's not something that's resolvable adjusting mask bits in GRBL v1.1 which is what the controller uses -- there's no pin invert mask in that version so it has to be changed in the actual GRBL firmware. I've discovered at least a few people have reported this issue to Genmitsu (it's how I figured out what was wrong) but it hasn't been fixed at their end, so plan to patch around it or use software that lets you ignore those machine inputs. After a few days of sorting out that problem I got the machine up and running, and it's proved to be the most precise and accurate yet. I recently added the A-axis accessory available for this machine and while a bit on the slow side, it works very well with the rest of the system and is equally as precise and accurate. ... show more

  • Great unit for the price and very capable
This is a very stout machine and combined with a Makita router easily capable of machining aluminum. Customer support is helpful and works to resolve issues. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I’ve had two units arrive with shipping damage. They are heavy and the carriers just toss them around. Hopefully a bit more attention to the packaging can protect against this. ... show more
