Cuts a smooth wide groove when set at the appropriate feed rate (too slow will cause burning, too fast will cause tear out) and allows for fluid movement if you are free handing your cut lines. I tested this bit in a Festool 2200, 3HP router and while the power of the router was never a question, controlling the router and quality of cut were depending on the amount of material you were removing. This bit has a ½” and [imho] requires a heavy-duty router for deeper cuts. I would recommend using it in a fixed router or router table rather than a hand router if you are going to cut any depth. It is designed for a CNC machine and works very well in that purpose. The carbide blades are replaceable, and a replacement tool is included. The blades remained very sharp after cutting several types of hardwood and will probably have the same life expectancy of other “main stream” carbide tools. This bit come in a foam box and would be nice if it had a plastic box in which to store it. This manufacture does not offer any replacement blades and I haven’t discovered a source yet although I am sure they exist.

Pretty much have to say that this this looks like a beast. Heavy construction. Sharp interchangeable blades, Thick shaft and solid clean welds. This thing looks like it is going to hog out material on my larger projects without wanting to slow down. Pretty impressed with this bit and am looking forward to see what it can do. As I mentioned in the title of this review I mentioned that I had only one or two concerns. Those would be; (1) I am not sure about the availability of new blades for when these ones do go dull. That should take a little time and is extended by the flipping the blades over, but even with that and potentially sharpening them I haven't seen replacements yet, though I admit I haven't looked a lot yet and imagine I can find them on the manufacturers website. (2) Due to the size and thickness of this bit that I might break a wrist or two if the thing catches. This thing is BEEFY! Ok the second one is somewhat a joke but it is a very large and beefy bit. I can't wait to see what this thing will do when making a sign.

I don’t know how well this bit carves yet, but the fact that it came (along with the included wrench to change or rotate the cutter) as a bare bit packed in foam makes me a little concerned about the quality. Seriously Genmitsu? You couldn’t spare 20 cents for a protective plastic case? I’ve purchased many bits and this is the very first that came as a bare bit. Kinda cheesy.

Product Reviewed: Genmitsu 1/2" Shank Router Bit, 90 Degree V Groove Carbide Inserts for $60 less 15% coupon TL;DR; Large 90 degree V Groove; Reversible Carbide Inserts; No replacement Inserts available I intend to use this mainly for metal working although the insert relief angles are too large for any significant life in steel Aluminum should be OK. This is a very large cutter. I’d be a bit afraid to run it at more than 3600 rpm which is pretty low for a router. The inserts are reversible and there is a wrench included. The finish seems quite OK especially on the carbide finishing. A quick search on google did not turn up any replacement inserts for this bit which is something of an issue. A sharpening shop with Diamond wheels should be able to touch up the edges of these inserts pretty quickly but replacement inserts really ought to be more readily available. OTOH at the price point you could buy a brazed insert and in that case sharpening would be your only choice so at least you get 2X the cutting edges for this model in any case. It would also be nice to offer a range of insert cutter relief. I think this cutter is a decent value but I have to knock off one point for execution on the replacement cutter. 4 Stars and bump up to 5 if replacement inserts become available. How I review: Reviews start with 5 stars and I subtract points. - 0 for value but I try to provide guidance -0.5 to -3 for product not matching description e.g. stainless steel is actually plated steel -0.5 to -3 for product missing badly on execution I select products carefully so low (1-3 scores) are rare but detailed comments and critiques almost always are in the review. Most of my reviews come out 4-5 range. If possible I dismantle or destroy items to examine inner workings.

It can be re sharpened, or replaced so it will last bit is balanced and heavy duty, industrial grade, will last.... love it... made a sign in Walnut, no burning, and cut fast....always test your speeds and feeds to before you go hog wild on making 50 of something! no complaints, 5 stars!

I ordered this cutter to do some custom bead board. I was especially interested in the fact that it uses insert tooling, so it can basically be resharpened forever, and it's big enough that it will run any V-groove that I'm willing to be holding onto a hand router to machine. I'm not disappointed, the fit and finish of this bit is quite good. I'm not saying it's a Leitz, but for the cost it certainly does the job and you could even do some light production work with it without being afraid of a failure. It's wickedly sharp out of the box. I can't find anything about it I don't like, so I will say if you need a big, capable V-Grooving bit, then give this one a try.

While V Grrove is probably better with a CNC-controlled router, I still occasionally do some manual work with a trim router for some sign-making and this bit seems to work well for both. While it would be nice if it came with an extra insert since it includes a Torx bit tool, the 12mm x 12mm Square tungsten carbite inserts are relatively common and easy to course. The price isn't the lowest for comparable bits its not significantly different in price. While its not up there with the quality of say, Amana router bits, Genmitsu is at least recognized in the level of CNC equipment I'm working within, and I trust the brand well enough, especially with the growth and improvements they've made over the years.
