This generator is perfect for my needs! I was looking at the larger 240 volt inverter generators on the market to power my house during extended power outages. I decided this GENMAX GM9000iED has the most features for the best price compared to any of the other similar generators in this category. For example, if you compare this GENMAX 9000 iED generator to the Predator 9500 watt inverter generator offered by Harbor Freight: The GENMAX has a full digital multi meter showing power usage, the Predator only has an hour meter. The GENMAX has remote start, the Predator does not. The GENMAX has an engine oil filter screen, the Predator does not. (as far as I know, none of the GENAMX competitors have any form of engine oil filtration) The GENMAX is dual fuel compatible (gasoline and propane), the Predator is only setup to burn gasoline. The GENMAX has a 50 amp receptacle built in so no adapters are needed when plugging into large RVs, The Predator does not have this. (And I don’t believe any of the other 9000 watt inverter generators on the market have it, either… at least at the time of this review) When you compare the full asking price of the GENMAX vs the full asking price of the Predator, they are the same price. (at the time of this writing, Sept 2022) The GENMAX has a bunch more features for the exact same price as the Predator. I realize either one of these generators can be on sale at any given time but for conversation sake I am comparing full price vs full price to make it fair and even. I purchased my generator through Amazon and the home delivery company who delivered my generator did a great job. Because the generator is heavier than what the typical Amazon Prime delivery truck can handle, they ship the generator as “freight” to a local home delivery company in your area. That delivery company called me on a Friday afternoon. (My deliver was scheduled for the following Wednesday) The lady who called wanted to setup a time for the delivery. She asked if they could deliver it on the following Monday, but that didn’t work for me. We eventually settled on that Tuesday, which was one day earlier than was originally scheduled through Amazon when I originally placed the order. On that next Monday the home delivery company sent me an automated text to remind me of the Tuesday delivery, and to give me a timeframe when the truck would be at my house. On Tuesday my phone beeped with a text from the truck driver letting me know he would be at my house in 20 minutes. (This was right in the middle of the window of time they gave me the day before) Exactly 20 minutes after that text, the truck rolled up on the street in front of my house. Two guys unloaded the generator off the truck and rolled it up my driveway on a furniture moving cart and rolled it right into my open garage stall. The outer shipping carton (cardboard box) on the generator had a small puncture in the side from the tip of a forklift fork. I asked the delivery guys to stick around for a few minutes so I could insect the item before signing for it and officially accepting the delivery. They gladly waiting for me to unbox the generator and look for damage. I quickly discovered these generators are shipped in TWO thick cardboard cartons (not just one) and my inner cardboard carton was flawless and so was the generator itself. I signed for the delivery and the two guys said thank you and drove off onto their next delivery. It was a very easy and painless process. I would say between Amazon, and my local home delivery company, they have this oversized/overweight home delivery/scheduling perfected. It went very smoothly! I took both side panels off the generator and filled the engine with oil on one side, and connected the electric start battery on the other side, I then reinstalled both side panels and lastly I poured about a gallon of non-ethanol gas in to the gas tank and the generator was ready to start. On brand new engines I like to slowly pull the rope cord to move oil throughout the engine before hitting the electric start button, which is exactly what I did. Once I pulled the rope 3 or 4 times, I turned on the main power switch and hit the big round start button. I started right up and ran perfectly! I am still in the process of breaking in the generator so I haven’t completely loaded it down yet but I have been varying the load with two small electric heaters, and I’ve also been varying the engine speed by turning the low idle switch on or off every 5 or 10 minutes. I have also made sure that it will run pretty much anything in my house. I recently installed a power “inlet box” on my house along with a generator interlock device on my main panel. (Everything inspected and passed) My house is not very big and every light bulb is LED. I flipped the light switch on in every room along with my TV and refrigerator running, internet modem, router, desktop computer, driveway flood light etc…. and it was still able to kick my central AC unit on…. And I don’t even have an easy start kit installed. VERY impressive! The generator runs like a Swiss watch and is very quiet, especially for its size. I have it positioned in such a spot where I cannot hear it running in my house. This thing is the best product that I’ve purchased in a long time. I absolutely love knowing that I have a large enough generator to run pretty much my entire house during extended power outages, and it’s quiet enough that I won’t have to lose my mind listening to it run 24 hours a day during outages, AND it’s an inverter generator so it constantly puts out exactly 60 hertz at roughly 120 volts. Even with my home AC running along with a bunch of lights and appliances, this generator was still running at exactly 60 hertz and the voltage maintained right around 120. Perfect! I believe this is the best inverter generator with the most features that you can buy right now. If you’re looking for a generator like this for either camping or home backup, this is the one!

Exceeded Expectations
Set name: 9000iED Watts
This is the first generator I’ve owned so I have no past experience for reference With that said ... I absolutely love this 9000iED gen/invertor. I spent well over a month really educating myself and researching all the generator options. And the GenMax 9000iED was the right choice for me based on my needs to start my 4 ton A/C, low noise level, and the flexibility of running on gasoline, propane and natural gas (via aftermarket NG conversion kit). I also really liked the < 3% THD output that only a inverter can provide. I highly recommend watching the very informative side by side comparisons done by several persons on youtube before purchasing any large generator. (Gavin’s garage videos are some of the best) QUALITY I was concerned about GenMax being fairly new to the market and the low price but from everything I read GenMax is made in the same factory as Honda and several other well know providers of generators. I’m sure there are some minor differences but I figured that I could purchase another GenMax and still come out ahead. And now that I’ve actually seen and used it I really feel good about the quality and my decision. I’ve taken off all three sides of the generator and am really impressed with the engineering that has gone into this generator. Even the inside of the panels have sound proofing material. I purchased the full replacement extended warranty from Amazon for $200, but knowing what I know now I’m not sure I would purchase it again. I’ve completed the initial 5 hour break-in period at 1/2 load and did my first oil change with no problems what so ever. (note, they recommend not exceeding 75% load for the first 30 hours)... this seems to be a point of confusion for some. After the break-in period I switched over to propane (gen comes with everything you need except the propane tank) with no issues as well. I have purchased a natural gas conversion kit from PNG Technologies which makes a kit SPECIFICALLY for the GenMax 9000iE & iED but haven’t installed it yet. This flexibility was a must have for me wanting a whole house backup gen that could run for weeks if necessary. The shipping crate/box was well designed with a wood top and bottom and arrived undamaged. I chose to carefully cut open the front side of the box (handle side) to remove the gen so now I can wrap the box with aluminum foil and have a half decent faraday cage that I can roll the generator into and tape the ‘door’ shut. OPERATION At 250 lbs, moving this generator around on anything other than a flat paved surface takes a bit of effort, but the handles and side bars does make it manageable for one person even through thick grass or up/down 2-3 inch tall steps with makeshift ramps. The display is very readable even in bright light and it has all the important info displayed (several others don’t). The exhaust on the backside is a huge plus to me, and the noise level is low enough you can have a normal conversation right beside it when running. I’ve run it right on our covered patio and even though you can hear it in the house, it’s not annoying... much less than an idling lawnmower. When the gen is stopped the display turns itself off in about 5 minutes so if you forget to flip the main switch off it doesn’t run down the battery .. really great when using the remote stop/start. All the switches are protected from the weather but I’m not sure how long the rubber switch covers will last over time. The oil drain is set up very well for channeling the old oil out the drain plug on the bottom but I purchased a 12mm oil drain hose that I leave attached to make the job even easier. I also purchased the WEN GNA200 magnetic oil dip stick. This gen also has an oil filter that catches fairly small metal shavings. I can’t say how effective it is but it’s easy to remove and clean, and to me them adding this filter says something about the overall engineering that has gone into this gen... also has forced air cooling. The 50 amp plug is perfect for connecting to my house as a full home backup. Even though the maximum running amp output of the gen at 240v is only 32 amps the 50 amp plug will allow me to run a 50ft extension cord with minimal voltage drop. CUSTOMER SERVICE There is no local customer service but both times I’ve contacted the company on-line I received very complete and helpful responses with 24 hours. The lack of local support was one of the reasons I purchased the extended full replacement warranty via Amazon. But even if there was local support I honestly don’t know how in the heck I would get it there. OTHER NOTES As of 2022 this gen can only be paralleled with the 120v option even though the sales literature implies you can parallel both 120v and 240v. If you want to run a 3 or 4 ton A/C unit with this or any gen under 15kw you will most likely need to install a soft start unit on your A/C. The soft start unit I purchased was an Easy Start 368 made by Micro Air. It lowered the start up AMP requirement (LRA) from 94 amps down to 34 amps which this gen can handle. (37.5 max) In summary, I haven’t found anything about this gen that I don’t like or anything that causes me concern. Looks like the hours and hours of research paid off.

Problems from start and Support is terrible

Had problems from the start (gm9000iedc) got the unit in Oct 2024, wanted an 9000 watt inverter unit that support 240v and 50amp output. This appeared to fit the bill. After receiving unit did a no load test but noticed when set to 240v the display would constantly switch between 120v/240v called support multiple times eventually got thru. Tech indicated it probably was a bad display and would send a replacement that I could change out (take unit apart). In addition I needed to also have the unit be in floating neutral mode not bounded. He said he would send instruction. It took about 2 week to get new display. Figured I do the display change and the neutral change at same time Display. Replaced display but same problem, voltage fluctuates between 120v/240v. Called support again, multiple times, leave VM, finally after days, got a call back. They’re answer. They were Not sure, I would need to take it to a repair facility to have them check it out. Closest one 40mins away, next closest an hour. In the meantime I did a test trying to charge a device via 50amp/240v outlet Would get error messages related to voltage drops. Again no help from tech support Regarding the neutral. The instructions sent did my match the wiring of my unit. Called support again, now they say they don’t have instructions for my unit and I’ll have to pay for an electrician to perform or void my warranty. Really. So now I’m passed my return window or I’d just return it. But now looks like I’m out over $2K for this unit that doesn’t work correctly. Updated 1/15/24. The repair shop, who age max provided and 40min away, called and confirmed a problem exist and confirmed the voltage fluctuation in 240v mode. They indicated they’ve left GenMax multiple VM and hasn’t heard anything back as of this moment. With me the Director of CS (Oscar) has stopped replying to my inquiries.

Very quiet and capable generator for the whole house

I have only run it twice but I was blown away at how quiet this monster is. Tested all the sockets. Tested the eco-mode. Was very surprised at how a large (120V) grinder plugged into it did not even push it off eco-mode. Hooked up to my house and didn't flinch at the loads. Even my 4 ton AC (which has a soft start module on it) barely pushed the generator. And that was only for a few seconds, then it idle down a bit and was cruising. This generator will more than meet my needs. Highly recommend it!

It's exactly what I was hoping for

After tons and tons of research, I finally landed on this Genmax as it ticked all my boxes for a generator that could run on natural gas, was a quieter and more fuel efficient inverter generator, and could power my whole house with watts to spare. After performing a 5 hour break in period and using it for a couple short outages, I'm really happy with it. It arrived safely in pretty bullet proof packaging with some beefy pieces of wood on either side. The unboxing was nice, it came with a bunch of accessories like a cover, NG hose, propane hose, bonding plug, and magnetic dipstick. The build quality feels really high and having a generator with an actual oil filter is another nice feature to provide some peace of mind that metal shards aren't circulating around the engine. I love that it comes with a leave-in battery charger so it'll always be ready for an outage instead of finding that it's drained if you haven't run it for a few months. For actual usage, it's been a breeze. If it's starting up cold on natural gas, it sometimes takes a second press of the electric start button because it needs to bleed the air out of the line, but then it starts right up and runs great. The readout is super nice and having the wattage draw readout is really handy to get a feel for how much your house is actually pulling. Plus it has a handy little LED light on the front panel so you can see what you're doing in the dark! It feeds into my panel with a 50 amp inlet and an interlock kit with zero issues. Plus it's floating neutral from the factory, so you don't have to crack it open to convert it like many other bonded neutral units if you're using it for home backup.

So far so good, decent quality and features for the price

I've bought this generator as an emergency backup for our house (gulf region), so it doesn't get used often. So far, we only used it for the 5 hour break-in period. It worked well. Noise level is OK, it's quieter than our old 212cc open frame non-inverter generator. So it's an improvement, but you can't expect Honda level quietness. However, I'll say that Genmax has definitely put in an effort to make it quiet. There is foam padding inside in multiple places. Generator started without any issues and we ran it with up to 50% load as recommended per the instruction manual during the break-in period, so up to ~3.5KW. We were able to power several appliances and a 2 Ton inverter AC running on 240V (AC being inverter means that there was no huge inrush current, I don't know if it could run a traditional AC unit because they draw a lot of power initially). It's pretty heavy and seems pretty solid build, lot's of metal even though the covers are plastic. I was really surprised positively about small details like: - The drain caddy so the oil doesn't get spilled on the frame when you do oil changes. I changed my oil in the house without spilling anything. - Oil filter, some people have asked about it in Amazon Q&A and seller mentioned there is one. Surely enough, it's a small mesh tube next to the oil drain plug. See attached pictures. It actually caught a few metal shavings during the break-in period. - Included funnel and few tools (I think one of them is spark plug wrench). - On outside of cylinder housing there is what appears to be a temperature sensor leading to an electrical box, assuming it's some sort of controller. This is a really nice touch to protect it from overheating. Downsides and the reason I'm giving 4 stars is there are few minor issues with quality, but non of them seems like a deal breaker and I don't regret the decision to buy this genny. - Fuel selector knob on the left is extremely difficult to turn in any direction. I was afraid it would break. It didn't break, but it's still weird that it takes so much effort to turn the knob. - Left wheel has some weird resistance at certain position, it's like getting a bit stuck on something. - Generator has bonded neutral and manufacturer does not provide instructions how to convert it to a floating neutral, which is needed if you are connecting the generator to a panel through a transfer switch. This is a code requirement and should be a routine/legit operation you can perform on your generator, and should be easy to do (accessible). So, not only did I have to figure out on my own where the neutral is bonded on the frame, it was also in a very difficult to reach place. For anyone wanting to do the same, it's bonded on a metal rail mounted behind the electrical panel (lower left corner when looking from the front), general area of the LPG inlet. - As someone else pointed out, hour counter seems to get reset easy time generator is restarted. So total number of hours will have to be tracked manually, if you even care about it. - Air filter seems really inaccessible, I'm not sure how easy it's gonna be to clean the filter. It's still brand new so I didn't bother much to get it out. I will update my review if I encounter any issues.

It's a Beast

The GenMax 13500W Tri-fuel Inverter Generator was a life saver for us. It arrived just in time, the manual was exceptional easy to read and follow to get started. It started immediately and kept our whole house running while the utility crew had the electricity turned off. We were able to get a license electrician to wire a breaker dedicated solely to the generator. I learned so much about what to do and what absolutely never do. Thank goodness because of this little beast we were able to save the food in our freezer and refrigerators. We have 3 refrigerators and one freezer. We connected them one at a time to let them load accordingly. Last we loaded the HVAC. All we had was 3.5 gallons of gas and we were worried because the utility crew said our electricity would be off for 4 hours. But this little beast held out. We love it!! We have recently purchased an outside running canopy cover for it. It's a gem of a generator!

Awesome

This generator is very quiet and after connecting it up to the natural gas line, filling it with oil (ONLY thing I wished they included in the box) it did not take long to fire up. It did turn over several times, to be expected, but then it ran perfectly. I have not yet connected it to my house, need to get that wiring done - but it's set up for now. What impressed me was that it came with the quick connect pipe and the extra loose fitting that I needed for the connection to the main line - and for that, I give this the 5th star. The seller did a great job, making sure (expect for the oil) that you could fire this up, out of the box. I had to drive to a store to buy the oil - but not a big deal. My suggestion to the seller will be to ADD a sealed bottle (quart) of oil. Some customers may not have the oil on hand and have to drive some distance to get the specific oil. Overall, I recommend the generator and the seller. Super chuffed that I bought it.
