  • Not as impressed as others and unfortunately fell short of expectations
I will preface this as I am on my third bench top drill press and moving onto my fourth. The first two were from Harbor Freight--- same price range as this General International 75-010 M1. There is a flaw in their unit and the first one broke at the top of the spindle at the pulley and I got a replacement... and the build quality was simply just not as nice and had issues going together...so it was also returned. I had looked at Wen as well as Shop Fox and also went back to look at Delta and JET as well...in the end the specs on this unit had what I needed and was purchased. Arrived quickly and damaged. I didn't notice it until I put it all together and went to use it--- so it had to be returned. Wow, three drill presses in less than 2-weeks! I guess the only part to this that makes me not feel as bad is that I do not like the construction of the work platform--- it is weak and is actually worth knocking off 2 stars for that and I also dink it a 1/2 star for packaging. I will start with the packaging. The foam is too weak and does not encapsulate the heavy components enough and at a good 75-pounds shipping weight, things moved around and caused the damage. Such a shame. The work platform is the bigger issue-- I can deflect it with my hand--- that is a problem. I would say that by pushing down on it I can make it deflect at the outer most edge a good 1/8" or so which is not acceptable. So what happens with you drill? You can ponder that one. So back to it all, I am currently split between the Wen and Shop Fox with me leaning towards the Shop Fox at this time. I am rather disappointed that this has been such an ordeal--- I still own a floor model drill press that I bought from Enco years ago and honestly it is built like a brick house compared to what I have had to deal with so far. I am using this for metal work on an inconsistent basis but in the end I am happy to spend the extra money to get a better product but not double to get into something like a Delta that is better--- but not "double" better. Bummer. ... show more

  • Hopefully I'll change this review very soon
Review part 2: I called General International on Monday to see the status of my missing parts. I was told they would go out that day and I would get by Wednesday. On Wednesday I received an email from GI telling me they had shipped the wrong parts. The correct parts would arrive on Friday. They arrived on time, I got the drill press ALMOST assembled, only to discover there was 2 parts still missing. I will call GI on Monday and wait until I can get everything that was supposed to be in the box. I went to assemble the drill press. I removed a smaller one from the workbench and started assembling the new one. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to do anything. The hardware package was missing--couldn't even do the first step. I have contacted the manufacturer directly and was very pleased at the way they sounded concerned and said they would get the hardware package to me. I hope it is quick, as I have the rest of the parts spread out and I am unable to do anything. I will change review when parts arrive and I am able to actually do something on the drill press. ... show more

  • Great for the price! Would recommend for small shop or home garage
Nice little machine drills great for anything 1/2” or smaller. When you go over 1/2” it definitely doesn’t love it but with patience will get the job done!

The weight of the machine is still very heavy! The operation of the work is OK! It's a little loud

  • Good for 1/3 HP
1/3 HP isnt enough HP under decent loads but with good sharp drill bits it works for a small shop. I do however like the 5/8” chuck.

I was not impressed with the quality of the machine...

  • Could have been better.
It seems to work well but is rather loud. Some parts are a bit stiff to deal with. Probably worth what I paid for it.
