  • INCREDIBLE, but some slight kinks to work out...
Style: MaxiGro Size: 2.2 lb
Ok, I have a lot to say about this product, let me start with the good. A lot of the reviews I saw myself when purchasing this product talked about how amazing this plant food is, and how well their plants are doing. I had very similar results. I have a hydroponics setup with 36 basil plants growing, and they have absolutely exploded! I can't pick the basil fast enough! It has grown so fast that I have to plan dinners that involve a lot of it so it doesn't go to waste! After putting this nutrient solution powder into my hydroponic system, I got it professionally tested and it contained perfect amounts true to what plants need of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, and other macronutrients. It really couldn't be simpler and cheaper with this powder...Once you have gotten it right. Now let's get into the bad things about this product. When I first added this to my nutrient solution reservoir in my hydroponics system, I thought everything was going great (I had lettuce growing at the time). By the time the lettuce got bigger though, it started to wilt. I tested the PH of the water and realized that the nutrient solution plummetted the PH to below 4! I quickly raised the ph and found another problem after some time. The nutrient powder didn't dissolve well into the water! After months of tragic trial and error, I finally found a foolproof way to get this nutrient powder to work well. Here are some steps below: 1. Make sure you buy a PH up solution because you will definitely need to raise the PH of the nutrient solution shortly after adding the powder. 2. You may want to add a water circulator or wave machine into your nutrient solution reservoir to encourage the constant circulation of water and prevention of the build-up of the powder on the sides of the reservoir. 3. Pre-dissolve the amount of powder you will need for your system in a little bit of hot water making sure to mix WELL. this will ensure that most of what's in the powder will be dissolved before you even pour the solution into your nutrient solution reservoir. If you follow these steps as I have, I'm certain you will have a better overall experience with this product, and you will get a higher yield from your plants. This one-step nutrient powder from general hydroponics is easy and I would recommend it...If you know how to do it properly. ... show more

  • Has 9 out of 12 nutrients, 5.4 grams/gallon (700 ppm) drops 9.5 pH water to 6.0 pH, has brown clumps
Style: MaxiGro Size: 2.2 lb
MaxiGro is the easiest water soluble plant food for beginners (that has at least 9 of 12 nutrients). It's all-in-one so it's very simple to use compared to Masterblend 4-18-38 Complete Combo Kit. There were a few brown clumps (up to 1/4 tsp size) in the bag but rest of it was white. I was going to return this (due to brown clumps) but it made my microgreens (radish & peas) thrive. I've been avoiding big brown lumps and only use the white solids. For hydroponic microgreens, I use 50-100 ppm of nitrogen and 90-100 ppm of Epsom salt. Usually starting with lower ppm and gradually increasing ppm it as the plants grow. For 70 ppm of nitrogen, I use: 946 grams (147 ppm) hard water 9.5 pH water (about 4 cups). 1.35 grams (+700 ppm) MaxiGro (~1 flat tsp or 5.4 grams per gallon) -- dropped 9.5 pH to 6.0 pH. 0.19 grams (+65 ppm) Epsom salt (95 ppm total because 700 ppm of MaxiGro has 35 ppm Epsom salt). To make a gallon, multiply weights by 4. I dilute the first nutrient feed (about 72 hours after sowing seeds) by 25% to provide about 525 ppm of MaxiGro. Waiting 15-30 minutes before measuring PPM with a TDS meter allows time for MaxiGro to dissolve. Until I did this, I was using too much MaxiGro. I harvest microgreens within 6-14 days from start to finish, so your plants might require more MaxiGro if they are older and bigger. I also grow migrogreens on reusable silicone mats (dehydrator mats) without soil/coir/paper so you may need to adjust if you use soil containing nutrients. ... show more

  • This batch seems less strong
Style: MaxiGro Size: 16 lbs
I had bought a 2lbs bag that made my plants grow crazy fast. So I invested in a my 16lb bag of this and this larger bag doesn't seem to be doing much of anything for my plants.

  • Use for Aerogarden
Style: MaxiGro Size: 2.2 lb
I bought this based on previous reviews. I think the liquid fertilizer is probably easier since a small amount is used every two weeks and can go in no matter what the water level is. However, I have noticed more vigorous growth and roots with the Maxigrow. A previous review advised to mix it in warm water, so I do that. I just have to be cognizant of when feeding time is coming so the water level won't be at the top at feeding time. My lettuce gardens that I use my own seeds and sponges usually last 2 months, but with Maxigrow i seem to get a week or so longer. The lettuce does seem to grow high fast so I have to prune a lot to keep the lights lowered. Herbs respond just as well. I have more basil and parsley than I can use. I know this will last a long time since I use about a teaspoon for both every two weeks. So far so good. The only downside is the build up of residue inside and the top tray, but that can be cleaned with vinegar before starting a new garden. ... show more
