Pattern Name: Switch Kit

Style: 50-Amp

Features

  • 50-AMP MANUAL TRANSFER SWITCH FOR PORTABLE GENERATOR HOME BACKUP: Powers 10 hard-wired circuits at 120/240V including furnaces, well pumps, and lighting with a push-button rocker switch during outages, no extension cords needed
  • MECHANICAL INTERLOCK PREVENTS DANGEROUS BACKFEED INTO THE UTILITY GRID: Utility and generator contacts cannot close simultaneously, meeting NEC Article 702 requirements and protecting utility line workers during outage operation
  • 12,000-WATT CAPACITY SUPPORTS 240V HIGH-DRAW APPLIANCES AND WELL PUMPS: At 50A / 120/240V single phase, this switch handles the starting surge and running load of well pumps, electric water heaters, and central HVAC circuits simultaneously
  • INDOOR NEMA 1 PANEL INSTALLS BESIDE YOUR MAIN BREAKER BOX AT 15.4" x 15.8" x 4": The power inlet box included in the kit is NEMA 3R outdoor-rated; the transfer switch panel itself is designed for protected indoor wall mounting only
  • WORKS WITH ANY PORTABLE GENERATOR WITH A COMPATIBLE 50-AMP OR GFCI-PROTECTED OUTLET: Multi-listed for Siemens, Eaton, and Square D 1-inch standard, tandem, GFCI, and AFCI breakers no breaker replacement required for most existing panels
  • EXPAND FROM 10 TO 16 CIRCUITS AND UPGRADE TO AUTOMATIC STANDBY LATER: Interchangeable breakers add circuits as needs grow; the HomeLink platform upgrades to automatic standby for up to an 11 kW Generac generator by swapping the controller only
  • 50-AMP CAPACITY IS RECOMMENDED WHEN BACKING UP 240V LOADS OR MORE THAN 8 CIRCUITS: A 30-amp switch maxes out at 7,200W and cannot support 240V appliances like well pumps or dryers; the 50-amp switch handles up to 12,000W for full coverage
  • WHAT'S INCLUDED: Pre-wired 50A transfer switch panel, indicator lights, wiring harness, 1-1/4" ENT conduit and fittings, 12-inch pre-wired whip, and installation manual; power inlet box and generator cord included in kit model 9855 only

Description

The Generac HomeLink 50-amp manual transfer switch (model 9854) powers up to 10 hard-wired home circuits from any compatible portable generator during an outage — with a push-button rocker switch, no extension cords, and a clear upgrade path to fully automatic standby power. Do I need a 30-amp or 50-amp switch? If you plan to back up any 240V appliance — well pump, electric dryer, central air conditioner, or electric water heater — the 50-amp switch is the right choice. A 30-amp switch is limited to 7,200W and cannot support 240V double-pole circuits. The 50-amp HomeLink handles up to 12,000W at 120/240V single phase. How many circuits do I need? This switch comes pre-configured for 10 circuits and expands to 16 using interchangeable breakers — no rewiring required. Most households comfortably protect essential loads across 10 circuits: furnace, refrigerator, well pump, lighting, and two or three additional circuits. Will it work with my generator brand? Yes — the HomeLink is compatible with any portable generator that has a 50-amp CS6377 or compatible GFCI-protected outlet. It is multi-listed for Siemens, Eaton, and Square D GFCI and AFCI breakers. Is the enclosure rated for outdoor use? The transfer switch panel is NEMA 1 rated for indoor installation only — mount it beside your main breaker box. The power inlet box (included in kit 9855) is NEMA 3R rated for outdoor wall mounting. How does it prevent backfeed? A mechanical interlock ensures utility and generator power contacts cannot close at the same time, preventing backfeed into the utility grid per NEC Article 702. Is it manual or automatic? This is a manual switch — you push a button to transfer circuits during an outage. When you are ready to move to a standby generator, the HomeLink platform upgrades to automatic operation (up to 11 kW Generac) by replacing the controller only, without replacing the switch. Professional installation by a licensed electrician is recommended for all line-side connections and NEC code compliance. A 50A 2-pole breaker in the main load center is required and must be sourced by the installer.

  • Definitely top-notch

  • Great Product!
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 50-Amp
Excellent product from Generac. I moved my critical circuits from my main panel to this transfer switch and ran cable to the exterior of my home in order to wire in a power inlet box to accept power from a portable generator when needed. I used it during a power outage recently and it worked exactly as expected! Being able to safely switch between generator power and utility power using the rocker switch on this transfer switch gives me peace of mind when I need it most. No more extension cords! I also purchased the internal upgrade for this product so that I can later purchase Generac's 10kw standby generator for automatic transfer of power from utility to generator and back again. This is specific to the Generac Homelink product which was intended to allow the homeowner to use this product with a portable generator with the possibility of upgrading to the standby generator at a later date and not having to replace the transfer switch/load center. Absolutely no regrets! Wonderful product! ... show more

  • Does not fit listed afci/gfci breakers
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 50-Amp
Product works as it should. The wiring that comes with it is a nice idea but will most likely need to be replaced with longer lengths in most installations. The biggest issue i have with the panel is that it lists compatibility with eaton br afci breakers. However newer br afci breakers have a plug on neutral which this panel is not compatible with. It will only support listed breakers which have a pigtail neutral for afci and gfci protection. I wish I new this before purchasing as I did not want to buy 6 new afci breakers for this panel at 75$ a pop! So if you need afci/gfci to follow current nec plan on spending up to an additional $450 to outfit this transfer panel with the appropriate breakers. ... show more

  • Excellent Transfer Switch
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 50-Amp
This is a excellent transfer switch. The transfer feature is about as simple as you can get without an automatic transfer switch. I installed this myself, and had the county electrical inspector sign off on it. He was really impressed with the unit and was interested in getting one for himself. This has adequate capacity to run all of the critical circuits in my home, and I have two more spare circuits left for future use. The full install took me a weekend, but that included wiring for the power inlet box and moving two circuits from my outside load center to inside to the garage where the transfer switch is. Overall this is an excellent product and I would definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Doesn't make since to use without the Generac standby generator and automatic switch!
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 50-Amp
This is a transfer switch that needs to be used to be used with a Generac standby generator to use efficiently. If you use a portable gas generator, you will need to remove the cover to switch it manually with an included rod, which doesn't make since compared to other transfer switches. I bought this unit because of the name. I've already installed it and can't return it. Chose another transfer switch for portable generators. Don't buy this unit without understanding how to use it!!!! ... show more
