  • Delivers just as advertised and very quiet, but don't expect more than 2000 watts at 5000 feet
Style: 3300-Watt Inverter - COsense - 49 ST
This Generac 3200i (2500-continuous watts) should do the trick the next time power goes out at our home. I wanted to buy a Honda EU2200i because of its quietness and reputation, but at 5500 feet altitude I didn't think its 1800 continuous watts was up to running the gas furnace, the fridge, and a few lights and battery chargers. The Generac was $500 cheaper and nearly 40 percent more powerful. Out of the box, I had to run at half choke for nearly a minute before it started to run normally. Otherwise, subsequent starting is a breeze. It's wonderfully quiet as well; it definitely won't bother us or the neighbors. And I'm glad I got the bigger wattage. I tested it with several combinations of current draw. It will run two circular saws simultaneously, but the engine bogs way down and my in-line watt meter indicated supply reductions of several hundred watts. That's not a problem for making a single cut but it would definitely be bad for the motors long-term. It powers either circular saw or a 1500-watt milk house heater just fine, but add any two in combination and it bogs down and doesn't recover. The best it could do was to run a milkhouse heater on the low setting (1320 watts draw) and a 6-amp drill (630-watt draw) for a total draw of 1950 watts. That's about right, given a 4 percent reduction in engine output per 1000 feet above sea level. The Generac 3500XL I bought 35 years ago ran great until the plastic gas lines rotted out. I could have repaired the gas lines but I worried about how clean the power would be for electronics these days. This new 3300i isn't pure-sine-wave output, but at 3 percent THD, it's close enough. Thus far, it delivers exactly as advertised. My only wish is that it came with the switch to turn the eco mode off. That might help with starting in colder weather. Maybe that won't be a problem, but I won't know until our first winter comes along. ... show more

  • I’m super happy with mine.
Style: 3500-Watt Inverter - Electric Start + CO...
I bought this generator in 2024 before hurricane season started. I’m glad I did. When Milton came through we lost power and this little guy prevented our food from spilling and allowed us to have light and fans and cook and watch the weather reports on television. It’s not big enough to run the 220v appliances but I knew that when I bought it. I bought it because it’s sooooo quiet. Like really quiet. So I had used it with extension cords last year. This year in preparation for hurricane season I had an electrician install a 30amp generator inlet and an interlock switch on my breaker box. This little orange beast was able to run the refrigerator, mini fridge, chest freezer, every light and ceiling fan in the house, tv, Xbox, internet and really everything but the 220v appliances. I really couldn’t be happier with the performance of this unit. 5 stars. Totally recommend. ... show more

  • Super quiet
Style: 3500-Watt Inverter - Electric Start + CO...
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I picked it for the wrong reason in that I didn’t know what I really needed. It is super quiet and runs great. I should have bought a standard generator that produced a minimum of 9000 watts for a direct connection to my mobile home rather than just thinking of keeping the refrigerator running during power loss due to high winds. ... show more

  • Read before buying - Update
Style: 3500-Watt Inverter - Electric Start + CO...
This review is for an iQ3500 Generac. The Generator arrived with the box in good condition (just a few tears). I removed the generator from the box and there was no visible damage to the unit, so I added the oil and 0E gas. I trickle charged the battery overnight and installed it the next day. The generator started in 4 pulls, and it was pretty easy to pull (compared to the GP6500). It smoothed out after taking it off choke, but vibrated pretty badly (I think it would walk away if it was on wheels). I tried economy mode (no load applied) but that didn't seem to make any difference (I think my GP2200i idles down in economy mode even with no load). I let it warm up for a few minutes, but noticed the green ready light was not on and the output meter showed 0 VAC. So I shut it down and reread the manual. I went through the troubleshooting steps in the manual with no luck. I contacted Amazon and was told the item was not returnable once fuel & oil have been added. Amazon Emailed me the contact information for Generac. Generac went through the troubleshooting steps with me and then told me I would need to take it to an authorized repair center (they actually identified one only 9 miles away). I brought the Generac to the repair center the next day. They estimated the wait time to be 10 - 14 business days to get started on it, and additional time if it required parts. They explained that the charge would be $45 if it was something very simple and (I think he said) $140 per hour after that, plus parts. I told him it was brand new and should be under warranty. He said that if I provided a new sales receipt that they would contact Generac, but that I was ultimately responsible for the cost (I take that as "to get the generator back"). I told them not to exceed the cost of the generator. So here's the bottom line: 1. Amazon apparently can't/won't take back anything that has had gas/oil added. After that, it's all between the buyer and manufacturer. 2. This specific product has 4.4 stars, which is pretty good. But looking more closely now, 15% were not happy with the item (3 of every 20). Many of those required immediate repair and it appears many were never addressed. 3. If the manufacturer (Generac in this case) does not stand behind their warranty, it's additional cost (not to mention the hassle of lugging it around) for the buyer. Obviously there are undesirable avenues to recover the cost. 4. If I had ordered this from HD (where I usually order stuff like this) it would be returnable to the store. I'll update this review in a few weeks after this comes to a resolution. Update 6/6/2025 Updated the (product) review to 4 stars. The authorized repair center worked with Generac to have a replacement generator delivered to them. They transferred the gas to the new unit, filled it with oil and checked it out. I gave them the original box and packing materials so they could return the defective unit to Generac. Generac would not deal with me at all other than telling me it would be between them and the repair shop. It took 5 weeks total and I’m not sure yet if I will be charged anything. The repair shop was great, Generac warranty support was okay (but slow and hard to deal with). Wow is all I can say about the generator itself (once I had a working unit). It starts easily on either the electric start or pull cord. It is very quiet (even quieter than my GP2200i) and runs very smoothly with economy mode turned on or off. I tested it with a 12,000 BTU window air conditioner and it ran that fine with economy mode off. It also started that air conditioner just fine with economy mode on, but the engine sure did surge at initial compressor activation. Cycling economy mode on/off with the A/C running showed that the generator idles down quite a bit even with that 10A load. So I give the generator 5 stars (it is really nice) and Generac service support 4 stars because they did come through eventually. Unfortunately I can not recommend buying this (or anything they deem non-returnable) from Amazon because once they get your money, they have no skin in the game. ... show more
